The vaginal microbiome is often interpreted through static taxonomic patterns. Yet microbial composition alone does not explain why some communities resist perturbation, recover after disruption, or transition toward dysbiosis. This narrative review synthesizes evidence that vaginal microbiome stability is shaped by endocrine phase, epithelial substrate availability, microbial functional capacity, mucosal tone and candidate host modifiers. High-estrogen states, particularly pregnancy, are associated with epithelial maturation, glycogen accumulation, low vaginal pH, and Lactobacillus-dominant communities, whereas postpartum, lactational, menopausal, and other hypoestrogenic states are associated with reduced epithelial support and increased vulnerability to diverse anaerobe-rich configurations. Virtual clinical trials (VCTs) hold significant promise for improving the drug development process, yet their predictive reliability depends critically on design decisions that remain poorly understood. This study examines how model complexity influences VCT outcomes, as well as how the choice of prior parameter distributions and virtual patient inclusion criteria affects those outcomes. Using oncolytic virotherapy treatment of murine tumors as a case study, we compared a relative hierarchy of three mathematical models of increasing complexity under different parameter priors (uniform and normal distributions) and two inclusion methods (accept-or-reject and accept-or-perturb). Therefore, this study aims to investigate the antidiabetic potentialities of bottle gourd (Lagenaria siceraria) fruits in in vivo, in vitro, and in silico methods. For the in vivo assessment, alloxan-induced diabetic rats were fed food mixed with bottle gourd powder for 21 days. KMT2A-rearranged (KMT2A-r) acute leukemias are especially prevalent in the pediatric population. KMT2A-fusion proteins drive leukemogenic gene expression through an interaction with a chromatin complex that includes the scaffold protein menin, giving rise to aggressive acute leukemias. RAS pathway mutations are also common in pediatric leukemia. In a cohort of 1750 patients enrolled on Children's Oncology Group (COG) trials, we identified RAS pathway mutations in 43% of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) cases. The presence of RAS pathway mutations in KMT2A-r AML was associated with a lower complete remission rate, poor event-free survival and overall survival (OS), and early relapses. Given the …

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) represent an understudied bioactive component of human milk with an important epigenetic role in regulating infant gene expression. Most anthropological studies of human milk have focused on the evolutionary and biocultural significance of milk macronutrient content for infant development. This review will focus specifically on the value of studying milk miRNAs, a critical bioactive component of milk that may transmit cues to offspring about maternal environments. These cues could epigenetically program infant development and shape health trajectories throughout the life course. INTRODUCTION: Individuals with Down syndrome (DS) face high risk for Alzheimer's disease (AD), yet presymptomatic detection of cognitive decline is hindered by lifelong intellectual disability. METHODS: Using data from the Alzheimer's Biomarker Consortium–Down Syndrome (ABC-DS), blood samples from 246 participants were analyzed, yielding 404 longitudinal observations (45 Converters, 359 Stable) collected at 0, 16, and 32 months were analyzed. A Support Vector Machine was trained on 25 plasma biomarkers spanning neurodegeneration, inflammation, and vascular health, along with demographic factors (age, sex, ethnicity, karyotype, apolipoprotein E [APOE ε4]). We describe how research can inform policymaking. We begin by summarizing the policy formation process, offering a framework illustrating how interactions between scientists and policymakers can provide mutual benefits. We then describe four research initiatives from the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Office of Investor Research (OIR) as examples of how behavioral sciences can help inform policymakers. The first initiative established a probability-based nationally representative survey panel focused on US investor behavior. The remaining three examined investor communications for mutual fund benchmarks, emerging annuities (known as registered index-linked annuities), and mutual fund fee visuals. Heavy soil can be compacted and poorly structured with dense sodic and alkaline (high pH) clay in the B-horizon, which prevents root exploration in the subsoil layer, potentially restricting grain yield in the low rainfall regions of Western Australia (WA) and globally. This study investigated whether loosening of compacted soil layers through deep ripping with or without phosphorus (P) and gypsum addition can increase barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) crop productivity in a 3-year-long field experiment. Soil loosening significantly increased barley root exploration and yield immediately after deep ripping in 2021 and showed no significant difference in 2022 and 2023. The …

BACKGROUND: Large language models (LLMs) are increasingly used to generate health information, yet their reliability as evaluators remains unclear. This study investigated the feasibility of an LLM-as-a-judge methodology in the context of infection prevention and antimicrobial resistance (AMR), comparing automated ratings with human expert benchmarks.

METHODS: We performed a secondary analysis of an expert-annotated dataset of health messages. Three leading LLMs (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) independently evaluated the same messages using an adapted DISCERN tool across five domains: information reliability, quality, AMR impact, persuasiveness, and overall score. Despite the complexities within our social environments, we distill an incredible magnitude of details available to us into compressed representations of other people’s minds and mannerisms. Yet research has focused largely on mapping isolated stimuli—divorced from its messy context—to the spontaneous impressions they provoke. Background: Genomic analysis has revealed that approximately 40% of bladder cancer (BLCA) tumors harbor alterations in the PI3K/AKT pathway, with PIK3CA mutations occurring in 15-25% of cases. PIK3CA, which encodes the catalytic p110α subunit of PI3K, plays a critical role in regulating cell survival, proliferation, and metabolism. However, the metabolic and functional consequences of PIK3CA mutations in BLCA remain poorly defined.

We investigate the dramatic effects produced by the presence of physical boundaries of finite-size metasurfaces (MSs), composed of identical cylindrical dielectric resonators without broken symmetry, on the complexity of their responses, observed at normal plane wave incidence, when constituent particles can support only dipolar Mie resonances. We demonstrate the possibility to excite extra high-quality resonance modes in these finite structures, which are quite distinct from the modes in infinite structures. We explore the formation of different types of high-quality modes in MS fragments of different configurations and sizes, which makes it possible to provide guidance for configuring their optimal designs. …

We identified six major trends that have shaped the field: (1) the shift from descriptive to mechanistic investigations, (2) the relevance of climate change and ecosystem feedbacks, (3) the growing integration of the human dimension into ecological research, (4) the application of advanced technologies and analytical methods, (5) the increasingly diverse contributions from the global scientific community, and (6) the rise of issue-focused research. Men maintain the ability to exercise authority and gain a competitive edge in leadership positions, while women persistently endure adversity within the patriarchal system, deeply rooted in their religious beliefs and path of faith. This study explores how women’s faith influences their pursuit of leadership positions and whether their upbringing, especially from a patriarchal perspective, deters them from having leadership aspirations. This manuscript examines how Black families interpret dis/ability through faith, caregiving, and communal life using Sacred Narrative Inquiry (SNI), a collaborative approach that treats family stories as sources of sacred and cultural knowledge. Grounded in disability theology and informed by Black liberation theology and Womanist epistemology, the study explores how families understand dis/ability as sacred and embodied, shaped by struggle, endurance, and hope. In doing so, this research explores the experiences of Black[1] males in U.S. public schools who were once labeled academically or behaviorally “at risk.” Here, at-risk is a term that typically applies to students “in jeopardy of progressing academically due to circumstances that may impact educational performance” (MSDE, 2018). This phenomenological, qualitative study explores how institutional experiences contribute to Muslim students’ sense of belonging in higher education institutions on the West Coast of the United States. The data presented are drawn from a subset of a larger dissertation study conducted in May 2024. Using an informational survey with open-ended questions and semi-structured interviews, the study examined students’ perceptions of belonging. The sample included 23 survey responses and 10 in-depth interviews. Urban Catholic schools face persistent challenges in teacher recruitment and retention, intensified by limited resources, demanding workloads, and structural inequities. Yet, many educators remain committed, sustained by spiritual identity, communal belonging, and mission‑driven work. This qualitative study examines how urban Catholic school teachers understand formation—intellectually, emotionally, socially, and spiritually—and the formative practices that support them. Drawing on interviews with sixteen urban Catholic school teachers, this study uses Palmer’s framework of holistic formation to analyze how faith-based practices, workplace spirituality, community, and solidarity shape teachers’ professional identities and well‑being.
