Disposability And Survival: The Legal And Social Marginalization Of Black Transwomen, Rachel Still
Public Interest Law Reporter
The criminalization of Black transwomen emerges not as an incidental consequence of law but as a deliberate, structural process intertwined with a long history of racial, gendered, and class-based oppression. From the horrors of slavery to contemporary policing, the state has consistently defined and regulated Black trans bodies through a lens of disposability. This article explores the historical and contemporary forces that contribute to the marginalization and criminalization of Black transwomen, emphasizing how race, gender, and socio-economic status intersect to create a landscape of legal violence that continues to shape their lives and deaths.
The experiences of Black transwomen reveal …

Flipped Classroom Versus Lecture: A Quasi-Experimental Study Evaluating The Performance Of Dental Students.”, Manal Elhijazi, Ihsane Benyahya
Health Sciences
Background: The flipped classroom is an active pedagogical modality that improves learning, autonomy and critical thinking. This work aims to evaluate the impact of the flipped classroom on student performance compared to the lecture in a biomaterials course.
Material and methods:Second-year dental students were invited to participate voluntarily in this quasi-experimental study .Thus, they were divided into two groups: one group benefited́ from the flipped classroom while the control group attended the lecture. At the end of a formative evaluation for both groups, their average grades were compared using Student's test (significance threshold set at p

The Unfulfilled Promise Of Obergefell For Children Of Lgbtq+ Parents: Advancing Non-Discrimination Laws For Familial Association, Jeffrey Dodge
The Unfulfilled Promise Of Obergefell For Children Of Lgbtq+ Parents: Advancing Non-Discrimination Laws For Familial Association, Jeffrey Dodge
Faculty Scholarship
Since the 2015 Obergefell v. Hodges decision, same-sex marriages have increased significantly in the United States. The American Community Survey data collected in 2022 shows that there are around 1.3 million same-sex couple households in the country, up from 565,000 in 2028. Just over half of these couples are legally married, up nearly 400% from prior to Obergefell. This data not only shows the significance of Obergefell for the LGBTQ+ community, but it also frames a generational shift in attitudes on marriage and family.
With the rise in same-sex couples accessing marriage has come greater visibility, representation, and acknowledgement. …

Endoscopic Excision Of Nasopalatine Duct Cyst: A Case Report And Review Of Literature, Deviprasad Dosemane, Meera Niranjan Khadilkar, Ananya Sinha
Manipal Journal of Medical Sciences
Nasopalatine duct cyst is the most frequently seen nonodontogenic cyst in the oral cavity, yet prevalent only in approximately 1% of individuals. Due to its asymptomatic nature, it is often unrecognized and an incidental finding.
Here, we describe one such case presenting as a hard palate swelling.

Effect Of Nonsurgical Periodontal Therapy On Oxidative Stress Biomarkers And Glycemic Control In Type 2 Diabetic Patients, Eman Taha, Eman Shawki, Fady Kyrillos, Mohamed A. Al-Shahat
Mansoura Journal of Dentistry
Objective Reactive oxygen species are increasingly being linked to the pathophysiology of periodontal tissue damage. The one of the sensitive significant markers used for assessing oxidative damage in several conditions is 8-hydroxy-deoxyguanosine (8- OHdG). The current study aims to estimate the effects of non-surgical treatment for periodontal disease on the concentrations of 8-OHdG in plasma and saliva as oxidative stress biomarker, as well as its impact on glycemic control in individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and periodontitis. Subjects and Methods The study involved 50 nonsmoking patients. 20 T2D patients with periodontitis. 20 nondiabetic with periodontitis. 10 healthy non-diabetic without …

Purity of Blood Symbolism and Double Discourse in The Spiritual Diary of the Afro-Peruvian Donada Úrsula de Jesús
Through a close reading of The Spiritual Diary, this study examines how the Afro-Peruvian donada Úrsula de Jesús—whose experiences and visions were recorded and transcribed by a group of literate nuns in her convent—employs discursive strategies to dismantle the discourse of blood purity and reformulate the meaning of the blood. Drawing on the Christian belief that all humans are created equally in the image of God and redeemed through the blood of Christ as promised for universal salvation, Úrsula constructs an egalitarian …

Teacher Perceptions Of Job-Embedded Professional Development: Is It Worth The Hype?, Sarah Lind Morton
Teacher Perceptions Of Job-Embedded Professional Development: Is It Worth The Hype?, Sarah Lind Morton
Doctor of Education Dissertations
This dissertation examined the factors contributing to teacher engagement in professional development (PD) programs, focusing on how those teachers perceived their PD needs. The study concentrated on understanding teachers’ thoughts and concerns regarding various types of PD, including large, small, and online programs. Small group PD was also referred to as job-embedded PD (JEPD) for this study. The four specific methods of JEPD included professional learning communities (PLCs), data teams, feedback, and coaching. The research highlighted JEPD, emphasizing the importance of this type of PD in engaging teachers. The methodology employed was a sequential explanatory mixed methods study that included …

Through The Lens Of School Culture: Perception Versus Reality At An Early College, Samuel Glenn Cook Ii
Doctor of Education Dissertations
Numerous research studies have been conducted identifying the benefits of the early college model, yet none have connected the end goal of the early college to meeting the needs of the community and stakeholders it serves. This multiple methods research study used a survey and focus groups to investigate the perceptions of various early college stakeholders regarding the end goal(s) of the early college through the lens of school culture. Despite the benefits associated with attending an early college, additional research was needed to determine if the school’s mission and vision were in alignment with the community it served. Thematic …
A Qualitative Study On First-Year Teacher Readiness, Audrey Mcbride
A Qualitative Study On First-Year Teacher Readiness, Audrey Mcbride
Doctor of Education Dissertations
This qualitative study explored the formative experiences that contribute to beginning teachers’ (BTs) readiness and perceived success during their first year in the classroom. Grounded in Kolb’s (1984) Experiential Learning Theory, I examined how BTs process and apply learning through cycles of experience, reflection, conceptualization, and experimentation. Ten regional finalists in the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teachers Beginning Teacher of the Year program were interviewed to uncover the supports that shaped their early success. Readiness emerged not solely from teacher preparation or certification, but from layered experiences—mentorship, job-embedded professional development, and prior life experiences—that built resilience and …
