Influence Of Hot Isostatic Pressing And Quench Rate On Aluminum 2139am, A Novel Alloy For Lpbf, James Wagnon

Theses

Mechanical and microstructural evaluation was carried out on a modified 2XXX series aluminum alloy designed for laser powder bed fusion (LPBF). Aluminum 2139AM samples printed via LPBF were given three distinct heat treatments: baseline T4 with water quench, modified T4 with hot isostatic pressing (HIP) and natural cooling, and modified T4 with HIP and rapid gas quench. This study examines the effects of the experimental HIP treatment with rapid gas cooling on the LPBF samples to increase ductility and assess the potential of the material as an AM replacement for 2024-T4 aluminum parts. Use of HIP processing on 2139AM was …

Department of Emergency Medicine Faculty Publications

[Introduction] A 32-year-old woman with no significant past medical history presented to the emergency department with 11 days of fever, fatigue, chills, and new-onset fullness in her left flank. She denied dysuria, abdominal pain, or vaginal bleeding. Vital signs showed fever and mild hypotension, and the physical examination revealed left-sided abdominal distension. Laboratory results demonstrated leukocytosis and a lactate of 3.2 mmol/L. She appeared nontoxic but was persistently febrile despite initial fluids and antibiotics. Computed tomography—shown in Figure 1, and ultrasound—shown in Figure 2, were obtained and revealed the diagnosis.

Limited research has examined the possible synergistic interrelationships between serious bacterial infections (SBIs) of the heart (i.e., endocarditis), bone, spine, brain, or joints (e.g., osteomylelitis) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) infections. We examined whether syndemic interactions existed between SBI, HCV, and substance-use-related factors in rural communities, hypothesizing that injection-mediated risks elevated the likelihood for both SBIs and HCV infections, which could be exacerbated by synergistic biological–biological or biological and social interactions. We calculated the prevalence ratios (PRs) of past-year SBI associated with each risk factor in separate models. Effect modification among significant risk factors was assessed using multiplicative interaction. Among …

Human papillomavirus (HPV)-associated head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HPV-positive HNSCC) has distinct biological characteristics from HPV-negative HNSCC. Using an AI-based analytical platform on meta cohorts, we profiled expression patterns of viral transcripts and HPV viral genome integration, and classified the tumor microenvironment (TME). Unsupervised clustering analysis revealed five distinct and novel TME subtypes across patients (immune-enriched, highly immune and B-cell enriched, fibrotic, immune-desert, and immune-enriched luminal). These TME subtypes were highly correlated with patient prognosis. In order to understand specific factors associated with prognosis, we used the unsupervised clustering of an HPV-positive HNSCC cohort from The Cancer Genome Atlas …

Real-Time Privacy-Preserving Threat Detection In Iot Environments Using Federated Learning And Differential Privacy, Salim Arfaoui, Omar El-Gayar

Research & Publications

Motivated by the increasing security threats in Internet of Things (IoT) environments, this research develops a novel, real-time, privacy-preserving threat detection framework integrating Federated Learning (FL) and Differential Privacy (DP). The proposed system enables collaborative threat detection across IoT devices while preserving data privacy. We tested our approach against the UNSW-NB15 dataset in a federated environment with 100 devices, achieving 90.8% accuracy (ε = 1.0) while reducing communication overhead by 97.5% compared to centralized approaches (212MB → 5.2MB/device/day). The integration of differential privacy introduces a measurable trade-off: stronger privacy guarantees (ε = 0.5) reduce accuracy by 2.9% (from 90.8% to …
