Navigating Copyright In Ai-Enhanced Game Design: Legal Challenges In Multimodal And Dynamic Content Creation, Andrew Begemann, James Hutson Jan 2025

Navigating Copyright In Ai-Enhanced Game Design: Legal Challenges In Multimodal And Dynamic Content Creation, Andrew Begemann, James Hutson

Faculty Scholarship

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in video game design has transformed traditional workflows, allowing for the generation of text, images, music, videos, and code at unprecedented scales. However, this advancement presents complex challenges for copyright law, traditionally rooted in human originality and authorship. This article examines recent case law that underscores the evolving legal landscape, exploring landmark cases such as Zarya of the Dawn and Andersen v. Stability AI. These cases reveal the tensions between AI-generated outputs and copyright eligibility, especially in the dynamic, multimodal compositions inherent to video games. The review analyzes how various AI tools are employed …

Fast Training, Slow Learning: Accelerated Playback's Impact On Training Outcomes, Thomas M. Cavanagh, Christa Kiersch Jan 2025

Fast Training, Slow Learning: Accelerated Playback's Impact On Training Outcomes, Thomas M. Cavanagh, Christa Kiersch

Barowsky School of Business | Conference Presenations

Speeding up multimedia training materials can boost efficiency but may hinder learning. This study proposes and validates a model where faster playback reduces learning outcomes, partly due to increased cognitive load. The findings illustrate how playback speed impacts learning, informing decisions on efficiency-effectiveness tradeoffs in training design. The research also unexpectedly reveals a novel method to manipulate extraneous cognitive load. These insights help organizations optimize training strategies, balancing the need for efficiency with effective learning outcomes.

Harnessing Generative Ai To Enhance Research Processes, Thomas M. Cavanagh, Christa Kiersch Jan 2025

Harnessing Generative Ai To Enhance Research Processes, Thomas M. Cavanagh, Christa Kiersch

Barowsky School of Business | Conference Presenations

This workshop targets capabilities related to using generative AI to streamline the research process. First, attendees will learn best practices for prompting AI. Next, attendees will work in groups to apply those best practices to specific research scenarios: performing a literature review, scoring open-ended survey responses, and writing code for statistical analyses. Finally, attendees will discuss the ethical implications of using AI for research. This tutorial is designed for academics and practitioners who want to begin using or level up their use of AI in research.

Design And Construction Of An Affordable Adjustable Repetition Rate Optical Frequency Comb, Christopher Latchford Jan 2025

Design And Construction Of An Affordable Adjustable Repetition Rate Optical Frequency Comb, Christopher Latchford

Physics, Astronomy and Geophysics Honors Papers

Two different adjustable repetition rate optical frequency combs were designed and constructed with off-the-shelf components, including several improvements to established erbium fiber designs. These designs were assembled at a fraction of the cost of a commercial comb. Both combs were constructed with a repetition rate of roughly 100 MHz, with one combs tuning range being 2 MHz and the others being 3 MHz. These combs followed different designs, the first being a modification of an established nonlinear polarization rotation (NPR) design, the second being a modification to a “figure 9” design. A stabilization control loop for frep achieved long-term drifts …

Michigan Tech Publications

This review explores recent advancements in using environmentally benign monometallic nanoparticles (MMNPs) and bimetallic nanoparticles (BMNPs) for photocatalytic water purification, addressing the urgent need for sustainable solutions to global water scarcity. This study systematically analyzes how key photocatalysis variables, including nanocatalyst concentration, dye selection, and pollutant concentration, influence dye degradation outcomes. Standardized experimental conditions utilizing UV irradiation, 10 ppm, methylene blue (MB), and green synthesis routes were employed for comparative assessment. Results indicate that BMNPs, particularly Ag-Cu BMNPs composites, consistently outperform their MMNPs, achieving degradation rates between 90% and 99%, compared to 70%–85% for MMNPs. This superior performance is attributed …

Preserving The Horizon: How Henry David Thoreau And William Morris’S Environmental Aesthetics Ward Off Ecoapocalypse, Esther Kw Mack Jan 2025

Preserving The Horizon: How Henry David Thoreau And William Morris’S Environmental Aesthetics Ward Off Ecoapocalypse, Esther Kw Mack

West Chester University Master’s Theses

To add to the current the current ecodiscourse, this thesis sets out to reimagine contemporary ecological discourse through the analysis of nineteenth century figures Henry David Thoreau and William Morris, two countercultural figures who dedicated their lives to protecting nature. Where Thoreau’s “Autumnal Tints” highlights autumn’s tide through a scientific narrative, Morris encapsulates the four seasons’ companionship in “Verses for Pictures,” as well as his infamous textile “Acanthus.” By synthesizing ecoadvocates’s life works from around the world and positioning them as interlocutors to Asian philosophy, art, and practice merge to evolve into a profound ecorehetoric accompanied by aesthetics. As the …

The Effects Of Prenatal Alcohol And Nicotine Exposure On Later-Life Drug-Seeking Behavior And Memory Performance, Zoe Campanella Jan 2025

The Effects Of Prenatal Alcohol And Nicotine Exposure On Later-Life Drug-Seeking Behavior And Memory Performance, Zoe Campanella

West Chester University Master’s Theses

Alcohol and nicotine are the two most commonly consumed licit substances among pregnant individuals, and the potential consequences of prenatal exposure to each drug include a variety of neurological and behavioral alterations. These may include an increased likelihood of developing a substance use disorder (SUD) and/or cognitive impairments later in life. However, 30% of pregnant individuals who report consuming alcohol also report consuming nicotine, yet the potential consequences of combined prenatal exposure are not understood. Furthermore, 40% of pregnancies in the U.S. are unplanned, meaning that drug exposure most commonly occurs during the first trimester. However, there is limited research …
