A Quality Improvement Project On Risk Stratification And Screening For Sleep Apnea In Cardiology Outpatient Setting, Ma Vanessa S. Mabazza Jan 2025

A Quality Improvement Project On Risk Stratification And Screening For Sleep Apnea In Cardiology Outpatient Setting, Ma Vanessa S. Mabazza

Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Projects

Abstract

Background: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is the most prevalent sleep disorder and is strongly associated with cardiovascular disease (CVD), but remains widely underdiagnosed due to inconsistent and non-standardized screening practices in outpatient settings.

Local Problem: Patients with CVD were reported to be diagnosed with OSA following sleep studies at an outpatient cardiology clinic. The need for a consistent, evidence-based approach to risk-stratification and screening was recognized.

Aim: The aim of this project was to increase the OSA risk stratification rate among new adult cardiology patients from 53% to at least 85% over a 16-week implementation period by incorporating the …

Unlocking Organizational Potential For Gis Collaboration In Higher Education, Charidy Paige Jan 2025

Unlocking Organizational Potential For Gis Collaboration In Higher Education, Charidy Paige

CGU Theses & Dissertations

Hardware, performance, and complex interface issues are just a few barriers that Geographic Information Systems (GIS) instructors must overcome when collaborative efforts extend beyond their classrooms. As GIS technologies evolve, instructors must adapt quickly to new tools and methods to maintain effective collaboration and ensure students achieve positive learning outcomes. Successful cooperation between departments, institutions, and other organizations requires preparation and sustainability throughout the semester to foster meaningful partnerships and support institutional goals. This dissertation applies the Resource Dependency Theory (RDT) to identify and define the challenges faced by GIS instructors, examining how they navigate these barriers by leveraging internal …

Modeling The Extracellular Matrix-Like Retinal Protein Pikachurin And Its Binding To Α-Dystroglycan And Gpcr (Gpr179), Mohit Belur, Khushi Raval, Riya Chelagiri, Rani Mehta, Emily Schmitt Lavin, Arthur Sikora

Protein Modeling Reports

We developed a 3D printed model to better understand the structure and function of the molecule, Pikachurin. Pikachurin is an extracellular matrix scaffold protein that bridges photoreceptor and ON-bipolar cell synapses by linking the presynaptic dystroglycan complex to the postsynaptic receptor GPR179, ensuring precise synaptic alignment essential for normal vision. Pikachurin was discovered in 2008 by a Japanese team at the Osaka Bioscience Institute through a microarray analysis of mouse retinas and was named after the Pokémon, Pikachu, because of its “lightning-fast” function in vision transmission. Although its role in dystroglycanopathy associated visual phenotypes is well recognized, there is no …

Race Talks

Race Talks Series Overview

Origins & Goal: Launched in the second semester of FY 23–24 in response to student protests, the Race Talks series aimed to bring together students, staff, and faculty to discuss racial bias at IMSA and develop concrete tools for addressing it. Facilitated by Marcus Sibley—a nationally recognized speaker, activist, and spoken-word artist—the initial two-part series drew over 35 attendees per session (students, peers, and staff), with overwhelmingly positive feedback.

Expanded Series & Participation: Building on this success, the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, invited Marcus Sibley back for a four-part series tailored to deepen the …

Promise Programs

IMSA is committed to equity and excellence, actively recruiting students from all areas of Illinois. IMSA’s PROMISE Program addresses the unique challenges of culturally, linguistically, and economically diverse (CLED) students interested in STEM education by providing academic enrichment programming at low to no cost. This grant-funded program is open to all students, especially Black or African American students, Latinx students, students who qualify for the national free or reduced-price meal program, and students from rural Illinois counties. Attending these sessions allows students to work with IMSA faculty, staff, and student mentors while exploring IMSA’s unique learning laboratory. The program also …

More Bookman Than Bookerite: William Stanley Braithwaite And Poetic Stereotypes, Susanna Ashton Jan 2025

More Bookman Than Bookerite: William Stanley Braithwaite And Poetic Stereotypes, Susanna Ashton

Publications

William Stanley Braithwaite (1878–1962) began his life with printed words as a printer’s apprentice with Ginn and Company in Massachusetts. Unlike Benjamin Franklin, Walt Whitman, William Dean Howells, and Mark Twain, all of whom began their meteoric literary careers by typesetting, Braithwaite’s rise was thwarted by the cultural stereotyping around race. It isn’t surprising, therefore, that throughout his career as anthologizer, publisher, poet, critic, and Boston Evening Transcript columnist, William Stanley Braithwaite used his facility with type to inform valuations of narrative and language with an eye not to race-blind aspects of literature, but to ways race might be recognized …

The Flimsiest Show On Earth, Blake T. Ostler Jan 2025

The Flimsiest Show On Earth, Blake T. Ostler

Interpreter: A Journal of Latter-day Saint Faith and Scholarship

Every so often an anti-Mormon book comes along that lowers the bar for attacks on the faith. How the Book of Mormon Came to Pass is one such work. It relies on speculation, conjecture, and tenuous connections to render, out of whole cloth, a hypothesis for the Book of Mormon’s creation that is almost laughable.
