Journal of Applied Pharmaceutical Regulatory Science

This paper provides readers a convenient compilation of open access literature including journal articles and PhD theses published by the Pharmaceutical Regulatory Science Team (PRST) over the last several years on the topics of Quality Risk Management (QRM) and Knowledge Management (KM). These topics, established as the dual enablers of a modern pharmaceutical quality system (PQS) as defined in ICH Q10, have been an area of focus of several PhD research studies over the past several years. A common theme across these research studies, as presented across this compilation of papers, is to advance PQS effectiveness and the goals of …

Quality Risk Management: A Role-Based Competency Model For The Biopharmaceutical Sector, Ghada Haddad

Journal of Applied Pharmaceutical Regulatory Science

In 2005, the International Conference on Harmonisation’s (ICH’s) ‘’Q9’’, aimed at providing the biopharmaceutical sector with guidance towards a science and risk-based approach to quality management was published. The concepts outlined in ICH Q9 focused on the fact that evaluation of the risk to quality should be based on scientific knowledge and ultimately link to the protection of the patient.

The purpose of ICH Q9 is to offer a systematic approach to quality risk management (QRM). It serves as a foundation or resource document that is independent of yet supports other ICH Quality documents and complements existing quality practices, requirements, …

Taking A Stand For Quality: Demonstrating Pqs Effectiveness By Operationalizing Qrm And Km, Kevin O'Donnell, Martin J. Lipa, Anne Greene (Editor)

Journal of Applied Pharmaceutical Regulatory Science

While the authors have published widely on the need to unite the twin enablers of ICH Q10 [1], quality risk management (QRM) and knowledge management (KM), how to integrate QRM and KM in practice has proven to be quite challenging. QRM and KM are wide-ranging activities that impact many elements of pharmaceutical manufacturing and regulation. Pharmaceutical manufacturers and their regulators work to apply risk-based approaches to their work and strive to use knowledge in a smart and efficient way, but so far, in the experience of the authors, it has proven difficult to get these things right.

One way to …

Synthetic Data And Gdpr Compliance: How Artificial Intelligence Might Resolve The Privacy-Utility Tradeoff, Michael Cairo Jan 2025

Synthetic Data And Gdpr Compliance: How Artificial Intelligence Might Resolve The Privacy-Utility Tradeoff, Michael Cairo

Journal of Technology Law & Policy

Data is in many ways the lifeblood of the digital economy. High-quality data oftentimes requires significant detail which may be at odds with the privacy concerns of the human subjects from whom data is extracted. The tension between the usefulness of a dataset and the data subject’s privacy has been referred to as the “privacy-utility tradeoff.” A novel application of artificial intelligence has potentially made it possible to resolve this tradeoff through the creation of “synthetic data,” anonymized data generated through general adversarial neural networks from authentic raw data. Unlike pseudonymized data, synthetic data retain properties that are statistically equivalent …

Moving The United States Into The 21st Century For Children's Online Privacy Rights, Zackary A. Blanton Jan 2025

Moving The United States Into The 21st Century For Children's Online Privacy Rights, Zackary A. Blanton

Journal of Technology Law & Policy

It has been more than twenty-five years since the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) was first implemented in the United States. Since its enactment—well over a decade ago—there has been only one instance in which Congress successfully passed noteworthy modifications to the Act. While there has been a recent increase in proposed amendments to the Act better to protect children in our current reality of everchanging technology, little has been done to initiate the much-needed change. The increased focus on children’s online rights has been sparked primarily by changes made in the United Kingdom. At the forefront of the …

Journal of Engineering Research

The clay brick industry, a cornerstone of global construction, faces increasing pressure to mitigate its substantial environmental footprint and improve the sustainability of its practices. The energy-intensive firing process, often reliant on coal combustion, generates significant atmospheric emissions, contributing to climate change and local air pollution. Furthermore, achieving desired mechanical properties in the final product is essential for ensuring the structural integrity and longevity of buildings. This review provides a comprehensive analysis of the chemical and thermodynamic processes governing clay brick firing, exploring their influence on both emissions and the final product's mechanical strength, durability, and water absorption. We examine …

Development Of A Drive-Rod Unified Variable Pitch Control Mechanism For Small-Scale Horizontal Wind Turbines, Ayman I. Bakry, Mohamed Elfouly, Omar Mehrez Jan 2025

Development Of A Drive-Rod Unified Variable Pitch Control Mechanism For Small-Scale Horizontal Wind Turbines, Ayman I. Bakry, Mohamed Elfouly, Omar Mehrez

Journal of Engineering Research

Typically, small-scale wind turbines use either a breaking equipment or stall control methods once the wind speed exceeds its rated value. This is to limit the power extracted from the wind turbines which largely depends on the blades' shape and pitch angle. Most of small-scale wind turbines are of fixed pitch angle to avoid complexity and cost. In this work, a novel drive-rod unified variable pitch drive mechanism is proposed for blades pitch control for small-scale horizontal wind turbines. The mechanism is powered by a DC motor coupled with a lead screw which in turn is connected to the pitch …

A comprehensive TEG model was created, utilizing a single objective optimization method. Key performance parameters, including voltage, hot side temperature, output power, and conversion efficiency, were evaluated through simulations and compared to conventional TEG systems. The findings showed that …

Three-Rigid-Link Manipulator Robot Inverse Dynamic Model Using Ann Based On Pid Controller, M.A. El-Gohary, M.S. Elksas, A. E. Banna, S.G. Ahmad

Journal of Engineering Research

This work proposes an inverse dynamics model of a three-rigid -link manipulator robot employing a PID controller based on artificial neural networks. In order to attain precise position, neural network control algorithms are designed to handle nonlinear issues including robot manipulator control and uncertainty compensation. An artificial neural network with two layers that uses feedforward training is trained using the back propagation technique. By just fusing the ANN with other traditional control techniques, the suggested controller gives the network more information on the composition and dynamics of the system. The PID controller generates data that is used to train neural …

Finite Element Analysis Of Stress-Induced Phase Transformation In Sma Wire, Ali M. Mamdouh, Ali S. Helal, Yasser A F El - Samadony

Journal of Engineering Research

Shape memory alloys (SMAs) are well-known for their remarkable mechanical properties, particularly their shape memory and super-elasticity abilities. These Properties make them ideal for a variety of adaptive mechanical applications. The most common application is the implementation of SMA wires as mechanical actuators. However, the nonlinear characteristics and the hysteresis nature of SMAs limit their utility in engineering applications. This makes SMAs desirable, but it is considered a complicated material for developing advanced rehabilitation devices that can significantly enhance patient treatment. In this paper, a finite element analysis, (FEA) study investigated the behaviour of SMA wires under mechanical loads. COMSOL …
