Class Iii Phosphatidylinositol-3 Kinase/Vacuolar Protein Sorting 34 In Cardiovascular Health And Disease, Yuanjun Shen, Jason Gleghorn
Pharmacy Faculty Scholarship
Phosphatidylinositol-3 kinases (PI3Ks) play a critical role in maintaining cardiovascular health and the development of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). Specifically, vacuolar Protein Sorting 34 (VPS34) or PIK3C3, the only member of Class III PI3K, plays an important role in CVD progression. The main function of VPS34 is inducing the production of phosphatidylinositol 3-phosphate, which, together with other essential structural and regulatory proteins in forming VPS34 complexes, further regulates the mammalian target of rapamycin activation, autophagy, and endocytosis. VPS34 is found to have crucial functions in the cardiovascular system, including dictating the proliferation and survival of vascular smooth muscle cells and cardiomyocytes …

BACKGROUND: Despite the proven relationship between lifestyle and morbidity and mortality, rates of chronic disease (e.g. obesity) continue to rise in paradox to the myriad of studies supporting lifestyle behaviour change. Men have been less likely to seek out preventative care or lifestyle programs, putting them at risk. In response, Hockey Fans In Training (Hockey FIT) was developed as a group-based, lifestyle intervention leveraging the draw of hockey fandom to engage middle-aged men with overweight or obesity in lifestyle change. Encouraging pilot study results informed the optimization and delivery of the intervention through a cluster randomized controlled trial in 42 …

The functional activation of the androgen receptor (AR) and its interplay with the aberrant Hh/Gli cascade are pivotal in the progression of castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) and resistance to AR-targeted therapies. Our study unveiled a novel role of the truncated form of Gli (t-Gli3) in advancing CRPC. Investigation into Gli3 regulation revealed a Smo-independent mechanism for its activation. Despite lacking a transactivation domain, t-Gli3 relies on androgen receptor variant 7 (AR-V7) for its action. Mechanistically, Gsk3β activation led to the t-Gli3 generation, and inhibition of Gsk3β supported the accumulation of full-length Gli3 expression through a non-canonical mechanism. Knockdown of Gsk3β …

Designated Education Officers (DEOs) at Veteran Health Administration (VHA) hospitals are senior educational leaders tasked with oversight of all clinical training at a particular facility. They prioritize dozens of tasks and responsibilities each day, from educational policy and strategy to staff management, financial planning, onboarding of trainees, and facility planning and management. Clarifying priority competencies for the role can help executives recruit, appoint, and evaluate capable personnel and promote effective, efficient performance. Using a federally developed method of competency analysis, researchers consulted a panel of subject-matter experts to identify priority competencies for DEOs, using data from a 2013 study that …

A Study Of The Sense Of Teaching Self-Efficacy Among Emergency Certified Teachers In A Rural Eastern Oklahoma School District, Matthew J. Brunk
A Study Of The Sense Of Teaching Self-Efficacy Among Emergency Certified Teachers In A Rural Eastern Oklahoma School District, Matthew J. Brunk
Student Theses and Dissertations
There is a teacher shortage in Oklahoma. To address this teacher shortage, the Oklahoma Department of Education has eased restrictions by providing an alternative pathway into the classroom called emergency-certification. The lack of traditionally prepared teachers entering the profession, coupled with untrained emergency-certified teachers entering the classroom instead, impacts students across the state. The purpose of this qualitative case study was to examine emergency-certified teachers' perceived sense of self-efficacy regarding their teaching pedagogy and classroom management in a rural Oklahoma district. Ten participants were chosen from six different rural school districts in eastern Oklahoma. Each participant was in either their …

Exploring Science Education Teaching Practices Within The Homeschool Community Of West Michigan, Amanda Syers
Student Theses and Dissertations
Parental perception of the importance of science education and parental perceptions and use of active learning and inquiry-based practices in the context of homeschool science education represent a clear gap in the existing literature. This quantitative survey research study was designed to discover, analyze, and quantify parents' perceptions of the importance of science education and the science education practices used in homeschools across West Michigan through a constructivist framework lens. Using a novel survey instrument specifically designed for this study, a pilot test and subsequent anonymous survey were administered using snowball sampling methodology to collect data to answer three research …

The Influence Of Principal Leadership On Collective Teacher Efficacy, Mikaela Marie Schaller
Student Theses and Dissertations
This study explored the relationship between principal leadership style and collective teacher efficacy in K-12 schools across five districts in South Carolina. The research problem addressed how different leadership styles—transformational, transactional, and passive-avoidant—affect teachers’ collective beliefs in their ability to positively influence student outcomes. A correlational quantitative research design was employed to examine the relationship between leadership style and collective teacher efficacy. The guiding theoretical framework was based on transformational leadership theory. Data was collected using the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, Pearson’s correlation, and one-way ANOVA were used to analyze the data and answer the research questions. The findings …

Artificial Intelligence And The Urgency Of The Digitally Literate Instructor In Secondary Education, Evan Kyle Calderon
Masters Theses
The formative school years that comprise secondary education, defined as grades 6th through 8th, pave the way for student success in their foreseeable academic careers. More so than ever, the relationship between technology and student experience has significantly impacted students’ overall academic success. With the encroaching wave of artificial intelligence as a societally necessary tool, the days are fast approaching when AI will become commonplace in the classroom, for which educators of the aforementioned grade levels are overwhelmingly unprepared. In addressing the alarming lack of initiative from higher positions in the education hierarchy, an analysis of the reasons for this …

The Importance Of Metaphysical Christian Screenplays, Francisca Dominguez Fuentes
Masters Theses
"HEAVEN AND EARTH, I AM" is a metaphysical screenplay that profoundly explores the universal theme of love. It parallels the Days of Noah and the Book of Revelation, warning humanity about the serious consequences of living without God daily. The screenplay emphasizes the urgency of this warning regarding the spiritual dangers arising from an alliance between the secular government and the church. It also examines the Three Angels' Message as described in Revelation, along with the prophetic teachings of the Bible presented by Daniel, Isaiah, and Ezekiel. The work serves as a reminder that the first judgment occurred through water, …
