Rehabilitation, Research, And Reform: Prison Policy In Ireland, Mary Rogan
Rehabilitation, Research, And Reform: Prison Policy In Ireland, Mary Rogan
Articles
The paper tracks the concept of rehabilitation within official thinking in
Ireland since the foundation of the State. It explores when and how the term was first
used and how it has fared since. It then examines barriers to and the role of research
in the making of prison policy and comments on data deficits in the system at present.
Finally it looks at the role of interest groups within the criminal justice system in
Ireland, and specifically their effect, or potential effect, on the formation of prison
policy.

Automatic Content-Based Temporal Alignment Of Image Sequences With Varying Spatio-Temporal Resolution, Samuel R. Ogden
Automatic Content-Based Temporal Alignment Of Image Sequences With Varying Spatio-Temporal Resolution, Samuel R. Ogden
Theses and Dissertations
Many applications use multiple cameras to simultaneously capture imagery of a scene from different vantage points on a rigid, moving camera system over time. Multiple cameras often provide unique viewing angles but also additional levels of detail of a scene at different spatio-temporal resolutions. However, in order to benefit from this added information the sources must be temporally aligned. As a result of cost and physical limitations it is often impractical to synchronize these sources via an external clock device. Most methods attempt synchronization through the recovery of a constant scale factor and offset with respect to time. This limits …

Underside Of Independence Politics Filipino Reactions To Anti-Filipino Riots In The United States, Taihei Okada
Underside Of Independence Politics Filipino Reactions To Anti-Filipino Riots In The United States, Taihei Okada
Philippine Studies: Historical and Ethnographic Viewpoints
Thisarticle reexamines the historical implications of Philippine independence politics in the first half of the 1930s. It looks into the reactions of Filipino elites toward the grave plight of Filipino migrants in the United States and the anti-Filipino riots there. Exclusion measures intended to bar the entry of Filipino migrants to the United States made it virtually impossible for Filipino elites to discuss these issues and confront American racism in their formal negotiations with the Americans. The absence of such confrontation left the benevolence of US colonialism unchallenged, even as the Philippines took a step closer to political independence.

Case Study Of Indoor Air Quality Of Health Care Facilities And Hospitals In Malaysia / Phuah Kok Sun, Kok Sun Phuah
Case Study Of Indoor Air Quality Of Health Care Facilities And Hospitals In Malaysia / Phuah Kok Sun, Kok Sun Phuah
Student Works (2010-2019)
Hospitals and healthcare facilities are buildings that require proper design for diverse environment due to their nature. The comfort of occupants and the spread of germs should be consider in the design of such facilities. Airborne diseases have become a serious concern after the spread of influenza H1N1 and Severe Acture Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) viruses. Healthcare facilities, particularly those built in the past, do not consider air as the transport medium for infectious diseases. Most of the recent studies in indoor air control revolve around specialized environments such as isolation rooms and operating theatres. This dissertation studies the indoor air …

Context. Since the discovery of the first exoplanet in 1995 around a solar-type star, the interest in exoplanetary systems has kept increasing. Studying exoplanet host stars is of the utmost importance to establish the link between the presence of exoplanets around various types of stars and to understand the respective evolution of stars and exoplanets. Aims. Using the limb-darkened diameter (LDD) obtained from interferometric data, we determine the fundamental parameters of four exoplanet host stars. We are particularly interested in the F4 main-sequence star, θ Cyg, for which Kepler has recently revealed solar-like oscillations that are unexpected for this type …

Cilostazol Prevents Endothelin-Induced Smooth Muscle Constriction And Proliferation, Yoshifumi Kawanabe, Maki Takahashi, Xingjian Jin, Shakila Abdul-Majeed, Andromeda M. Nauli, Youssef Sari, Surya M. Nauli
ETSU Faculty Works
Cilostazol is a phosphodiesterase inhibitor that has been shown to inhibit platelet activation. Endothelin is known to be the most potent endogenous growth promoting and vasoactive peptide. In patients and animal models with stroke, the level of circulating endothelin increases and complicates the recovery progress contributed by vascular constriction (an immediate pathology) and vascular proliferation (a long-term pathology). However, the effects of cilostazol on endothelin have not been explored. To demonstrate the dual-antagonizing effects of cilostazol on vasoconstriction and cell proliferation induced by endothelin, we used primary culture of mouse vascular smooth muscle cells in vitro, mouse femoral artery ex …

Inducing Empathy Or Imposing A Fine? Finding Solutions To The Downstream Water Pollution Problem, Natalia Czap, Hans J. Czap, Gary D. Lynne, Mark E. Burbach
Cornhusker Economics
There is a great deal of discussion on the effectiveness of public policies relating to intervention of government into the affairs of people. Some believe in “the invisible hand of the market,” while others call for active involvement of the government. Yet both sides tend to agree that in the case where markets fail to deal with too much pollution, government needs to ensure that those who produce water pollution either reduce the levels or compensate society (perhaps through a fine) for the losses. This assumes that people are only self-interested and will not achieve a shared optimal outcome with …
