Learning Fine-Grained Structured Input For Memory Corruption Detection, Lei Zhao, Debin Gao, Lina Wang Sep 2012

Learning Fine-Grained Structured Input For Memory Corruption Detection, Lei Zhao, Debin Gao, Lina Wang

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Inputs to many application and server programs contain rich and consistent structural information. The propagation of such input in program execution could serve as accurate and reliable signatures for detecting memory corruptions. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to detect memory corruptions at the binary level. The basic insight is that different parts of an input are usually processed in different ways, e.g., by different instructions. Identifying individual parts in an input and learning the pattern in which they are processed is an attractive approach to detect memory corruptions. We propose a fine-grained dynamic taint analysis system to …

An Experimental Study On Bond Strength Of Reinforcing Steel In Self-Consolidating Concrete, Trevor J. Looney, Mahdi Arezoumandi, Jeffery S. Volz, John J. Myers

Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

An experimental investigation was conducted to compare the bond strength of reinforcing steel in self-consolidating concrete (SCC) with conventional concrete (CC). This study investigated two different compressive strengths of SCC as well as CC. the experimental program consisted of 24 pull-out specimens as well as 12 full-scale beams (three for each concrete type and strength). the pull-out specimens were based on RILEM recommendations, and the beam specimens were tested under a simply supported four-point loading condition. the CC test results served as a control and were used to evaluate the results from the SCC pull-out and beam specimen tests. Furthermore, …

In this article, the author reviews the jurisprudence pertaining to express trust, resulting trust and common intention constructive trust and the HDB flat. This article will also examine the applicability of other equitable doctrines such as donatio mortis causa and proprietary estoppel in relation to the HDB flat. In particular, this article will explore the applicability of the common …

Make Sure All Kinds Of Voices Are Heard, Tan K. B. Eugene Sep 2012

Make Sure All Kinds Of Voices Are Heard, Tan K. B. Eugene

Research Collection Yong Pung How School Of Law

SMU Assistant Professor of Law and Nominated MP Eugene Tan wrote about the “national conversation” initiative of the government to engage members of the general public in dialogue and policy making. He argued that all kinds of voices must be heard and the conversation must not be one where the “converted” are talking with the “converted” nor should it be dominated by the “vocal minority”.

Responding To Personality Tests In A Selection Context: The Role Of The Ability To Identify Criteria And The Ideal-Employee Factor, Ute-Christine Kelhe, Martin Kleinmann, Thomas Hartstein, Klaus G. Melchers, Cornelius J. Konig, Peter A. Heslin, Filip Lievens Sep 2012

Heslin, Filip Lievens

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

Personality assessments are often distorted during personnel selection, resulting in a common "ideal-employee factor" (IEF) underlying ratings of theoretically unrelated constructs. However, this seems not to affect the personality measures' criterion-related validity. The current study attempts to explain this set of findings by combining the literature on response distortion with the ones on cognitive schemata and on candidates' ability to identify criteria (ATIC). During a simulated selection process, 149 participants filled out Big Five personality measures and participated in several high- and low-fidelity work simulations to estimate their managerial performance. Structural equation modeling showed that the IEF presents an indicator …

Assessing Tourism Development From Sen’S Capability Approach, Robertico R. Croes Sep 2012

Assessing Tourism Development From Sen’S Capability Approach, Robertico R. Croes

Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works

The purpose of this study is to assess tourism development in the context of Sen’s capability approach. The study developed a model to investigate the relationship between tourism development and human development while focusing on two countries, Nicaragua and Costa Rica. The study applied a cointegration technique based on the Granger representation theorem. Overall, tourism development and human development reveals a tenuous relationship in both cases, reflecting some threshold effect. The importance of tourism growth is merited in the distribution of its benefits and the extent that tourism receipts are allocated to support human development (public health, education, safety, etc.). …

Up From Under The “Open Access” Bus, Paul Royster Sep 2012

Up From Under The “Open Access” Bus, Paul Royster

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Libraries: Faculty Publications

For most of the past seven years I had thought I was working to promote open access to academic scholarship and creative works. I helped place more than 40,000 articles and documents in a freely accessible repository, from which they could be (and were) browsed, downloaded, saved, printed, and linked to.

But I find now that these efforts failed to meet the standards of the open access advocates as represented by (among others) SPARC, the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition, a library membership organization formed and sponsored by the Association of Research Libraries. As was made excruciatingly clear at …

Canine Urinary Incontinence Post-Neutering: A Review Of Associated Factors, Pathophysiology And Treatment Options, Suppawiwat Ponglowhapan, Muhammad Khalid, David Church

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

Canine urinary incontinence is commonly encountered in small animal veterinary practice with highprevalence in spayed female dogs. The diagnosis of neutering-induced urinary incontinence is usually based onclinical signs, history and elimination of other possible diagnoses. The proposed predispositions to incontinence thatfollows neutering including gender, breed, body weight, obesity, tail docking, spaying technique (ovariectomy andovariohysterectomy) and morphology of the LUT, e.g. the position of neck of the bladder and urethral length, have allbeen investigated. At present, the exact underlying mechanisms are not fully understood. However, it is widelyagreed that the condition is multi-factorial and hormone-associated. The role of gonadotrophin LH and …

Twentieth-Century Catalogs: The Poetics Of Listing, Enumeration, And Copiousness In Joyce, Schuyler, Mccourt, Pynchon, And Perec, Timothy Krause

Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects

This dissertation examines the occurrence of catalogs and lists in the literary works of several twentieth-century authors, including James Joyce, poet James Schuyler, novelist and cultural historian James McCourt, the postmodern fabulist Thomas Pynchon, and the French experimental prose author Georges Perec. The dissertation seeks to trace how each author makes use of catalogs in his work, how catalogs form a central part of his style and subject matter, and how his use of catalogs can be read against the biographical, historical, and social contexts surrounding his life and work. A theoretical introduction situates my work among theorists of epistemology, …
