The Role Of Customer Loyalty To The Salesperson In Generating Premium Revenue For Retailers, Ronald A. Clark, James J. Zboja, Clay M. Voorhees Oct 2012

The Role Of Customer Loyalty To The Salesperson In Generating Premium Revenue For Retailers, Ronald A. Clark, James J. Zboja, Clay M. Voorhees

Journal of Applied Marketing Theory

The findings of this research underscore the relative importance of loyalty to the salesperson, when compared with retailer trust and satisfaction, on outcomes such as loyalty to the retailer and a consumer’s willingness to pay price premiums. This research also demonstrates that loyalty to the salesperson has a diminished effect on both outcomes when the merchandise is perceived as being high quality. The findings suggest that managers need to be aware of potential contingency factors that may affect relationships within the service profit chain. Moreover, the results reveal that consumers make holistic evaluations of services and consider both the physical …

Customer Complaint Handling: The Importance Of Employee Training For Customer Service, Nader Shooshtari, Shawn Clouse, Simona Stan Oct 2012

Customer Complaint Handling: The Importance Of Employee Training For Customer Service, Nader Shooshtari, Shawn Clouse, Simona Stan

Journal of Applied Marketing Theory

Providing superior customer service and having effective and efficient customer complaint handling procedures are critical to a firm’s success in the marketplace. This paper reports on a survey of Chamber of Commerce members in a community with a population of about 65,000 people with regard to their customer complaint handling policies and practices. The findings indicate that firms which train customer service employees in customer complaint handling are likely to collect, record, and respond to customer feedback and complaints in a more systematic way than those firms which do not provide such training. These firms are also more likely to …

Psychographic Segmentation In A Unique Service Industry: A Typology Based On Consumers’ Levels Of Consumption Of Live And Media-Based Spectator Sports, Tammy Mccullough, Sam Fullerton Oct 2012

Psychographic Segmentation In A Unique Service Industry: A Typology Based On Consumers’ Levels Of Consumption Of Live And Media-Based Spectator Sports, Tammy Mccullough, Sam Fullerton

Journal of Applied Marketing Theory

The purposes of this study were twofold. First a typology for the categorization of consumers of spectator sports based solely upon their levels of consumption as members of both the live and the media-based audiences was developed. The four segments were given names based upon the individuals’ levels of consumption as members of both of the two alternative audiences. Specifically, the resulting segments comprised the sports-immersed fans, venue-based enthusiasts, media-based fans, and sports contrarians. Subjects also responded to a set of 34 sports-oriented psychographic statements which allowed for lifestyle-based profiles to be developed for each of the four designated segments. …

An Empirical Taxonomy Of Tourist Information Search Strategies, Stephen W. Clopton, James E. Stoddard, Mike R. Evans Oct 2012

An Empirical Taxonomy Of Tourist Information Search Strategies, Stephen W. Clopton, James E. Stoddard, Mike R. Evans

Journal of Applied Marketing Theory

An empirical taxonomy of tourists’ information search strategies is developed based on a survey of a large sample of tourists. The taxonomy reveals five different information search strategies. Each search strategy consists of the combination of individual information sources used by tourists in pre-trip planning. The five information search strategies are related to select tourist demographic characteristics, trip activities, accommodation choices, and general media preferences. The results indicate a multivariate relationship between tourist demographics and information search strategies. Furthermore, information search strategies are related to tourists’ preferred trip activities and choice of accommodations. Implications of the taxonomy for tourism marketing …

Understanding The Service Environment: How Does Music, Color, And Aroma Impact Customers?, Anita Whiting Oct 2012

Understanding The Service Environment: How Does Music, Color, And Aroma Impact Customers?, Anita Whiting

Journal of Applied Marketing Theory

Service environments area critical component of the service organization. However, most managers don’t understand how variables in the service environment impact their customers. Therefore, this article seeks to explain how three common and relatively inexpensive service environment variables impact customers. In particular, this article provides an in-depth review and analysis of findings on music, color, and scent. This synthesis of service environment literature helps managers and researchers better understand the mechanisms and effects of music, color, and aroma. In addition to promoting understanding of these variables in the service environment, this article also provides many managerial implications and guidelines for …

Biaxial Bending And Lateral-Torsional Instability Of Imperfect Frp I-Beams Including Effects Of Retrofitting, Jodi Marie Knorowski Oct 2012

Biaxial Bending And Lateral-Torsional Instability Of Imperfect Frp I-Beams Including Effects Of Retrofitting, Jodi Marie Knorowski

Civil & Environmental Engineering Theses & Dissertations

This thesis presents the outcome of a theoretical and experimental study of the behavior of Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) I-beams susceptible to lateral-torsional instability or when subjected to biaxial bending. Laboratory experiments involved application of vertical and horizontal static loads to a 4 x 4 x ¼ in. I-beam with various lengths, and the resulting displacement, twist, and strain were recorded. In the vertical direction, the beam was loaded from different reference load heights with respect to the shear center of the beam. The governing biaxial flexure and torsion differential equations were modified to account for the presence of initial …

The Eu As An Arctic Power: Analysis Of The Competence Of The Eu In The Arctic By Policy Areas, Armand De Mestral Oct 2012

The Eu As An Arctic Power: Analysis Of The Competence Of The Eu In The Arctic By Policy Areas, Armand De Mestral

Dalhousie Law Journal

The European Union is not generally perceived as an Arctic power However, the ever-expanding list of EU competences implies that it will have both an interest in participating in the governance of the Arctic and the authority to do so, should the seven Arctic states agree to make room. This development holds both challenges and opportunities for Canada and other Arctic states. The challenges stem from the factthat the EU will seek topromote the economic interests ofits Member States in resource extraction and freedom of navigation where Canada and Russia, in particular, have asserted strong national policies. The opportunities lie …

Modification And Application Of A Turbulence Response Analysis Method For Flexible Aircraft Configurations, Christie Jeanne Funk Oct 2012

Modification And Application Of A Turbulence Response Analysis Method For Flexible Aircraft Configurations, Christie Jeanne Funk

Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Theses & Dissertations

A software program and associated methodology to study gust loading on aircraft exists for a classification of geometrically simplified flexible configurations. This program consists of a simple aircraft response model with two rigid and three flexible symmetric degrees of freedom and allows for the calculation of various airplane responses due to a discrete one-minus-cosine gust as well as continuous turbulence. Simplifications, assumptions, and opportunities for potential improvements pertaining to the existing software program are first identified, then a revised version of the original software tool is developed with improved methodology to include more complex geometries, additional excitation cases, and output …

The purpose of this research paper is to study, analyze, and characterize antibiotic resistance in both the theoretical and investigative contexts. After an in-depth examination of the literature and previous research investigating the definition, origin, affected organisms, and proposed coping mechanisms related to antibiotic resistance, a research plan was organized and executed.

The organism Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) was selected as the focus of study because of abundant current research and regulated monitoring of this organism in healthcare organizations. Data about the incidence rates of MRSA in theUnited States was collected from reports disseminated by the Center for Disease …

Effects Of Incremental Dietary Levels Of Ground Flaxseed On Milk Production, Ruminal Metabolism, And Enteric Methane Emissions In Organic Dairy Cows, Katie Velez Oct 2012

Effects Of Incremental Dietary Levels Of Ground Flaxseed On Milk Production, Ruminal Metabolism, And Enteric Methane Emissions In Organic Dairy Cows, Katie Velez

Honors Theses and Capstones

Ground Flaxseed (Linum uitatissimum) is a lipid supplement that is commonly fed to dairy cows. It is believed that supplemental lipid can change the Fatty Acid (FA) composition in the milk, and decrease methane production. Twenty lactating organic Jersey cows, housed at the UNH Organic Dairy Research Farm (ODRF), were randomly assigned to five replicated 4 × 4 Latin squares to investigate the effects of increasing dietary levels of ground flaxseed (0, 5, 10, or 15% of the diet dry matter) on animal fperformance (e.g., dry matter intake, milk production, milk composition), ruminal metabolism, and enteric methane emissions. Each …

A Qualitative Examination Of University Of New Hampshire Student Impact On The Town Of Durham, New Hampshire, Audrey Hickey

Honors Theses and Capstones

University of New Hampshire students and Durham, New Hampshire residents have a historically contentious relationship that reached a low point in the early 2000s. On three occasions, university students flooded downtown Durham, vandalized stores and started altercations with police. Local newspaper reports and anecdotes assert that relations have improved since that time.

This study utilizes 39 semi-structured student, resident, business- owner and administrator interviews to examine the current state of the relationship. A brief overview of town-gown relations and a case study of student-resident relations at the University of Delaware is included to highlight the universality of the issues in …

An Analysis Of Differences In Approaches To Systems Of Linear Equations Problems Given Multiple Choice Answers, Amber Lagasse

Honors Theses and Capstones

This descriptive study focuses on the approaches college students (ages 20 -24) use when solving systems of linear equations problems that have multiple choice answers. Participants were from a midsize public university in the northeast. Four approaches were considered – three forwards approaches: 1) substitution, 2) elimination, and 3) graphing, and one backwards approach: plugging in the x and y values from each multiple choice option. Participants solved systems of linear equations problems and answered questions based on their methods in a structured clinical interview. Each participant also filled out a questionnaire. It was shown from the results of this …

The Representative Equality Principle: Disaggregating The Equal Protection Intent Standard, Bertrall L. Ross Ii Oct 2012

The Representative Equality Principle: Disaggregating The Equal Protection Intent Standard, Bertrall L. Ross Ii

Fordham Law Review

Challenges under the Equal Protection Clause require proof of intentional discrimination. Though rarely questioned by legal scholars or the courts, that conventional account cannot explain the success of equal protection challenges to electoral structures that dilute the vote of racial minorities. In the Supreme Court’s most recent decisions on vote dilution, the Court has invalidated local electoral structures under the Equal Protection Clause to the extent that they deprive African Americans of the opportunity for effective representation in the political process. The Court has reached its decisions despite the absence of any proof of intentional discrimination in the adoption of …

A Remedy Foreclosed? Mortgage Foreclosure And The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Richard D. Gage Oct 2012

A Remedy Foreclosed? Mortgage Foreclosure And The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Richard D. Gage

Fordham Law Review

During the Global Financial Crisis, millions of homeowners received foreclosure notices. Many of these notices were sent by attorneys, and informed consumers of an impending mortgage foreclosure. Courts are split on whether foreclosures must conform with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). In order to be subject to the FDCPA, an entity must meet the statutory definition of “debt collector.” Courts struggle with whether foreclosure attorneys fall under this definition. This Note examines this conflict, and suggests a fact-sensitive framework for evaluating whether foreclosure attorneys are debt collectors.

Crying Over The Cache: Why Technology Has Compromised The Uniform Application Of Child Pornography Laws, Katie Gant Oct 2012

Crying Over The Cache: Why Technology Has Compromised The Uniform Application Of Child Pornography Laws, Katie Gant

Fordham Law Review

As thousands of individuals surf the internet daily, every image on every web page is saved automatically to their computer’s cache, absent user direction. Sections 2252(a)(2) and 2252(a)(4)(B) of Title 18 of the U.S. Code criminalize knowing possession and knowing receipt of child pornography images. For the defendant who intentionally saves illicit images to his computer, the cache simply verifies already-proven knowing possession or receipt. However, for the defendant who only views child pornography online, the presence of images in the cache may not be enough to prove knowledge beyond a reasonable doubt. How can the prosecution prove a defendant …
