Intriguing Mystery - The Secret Service And The Jfk Assassination, Donald E. Wilkes Jr.

Popular Media

On Friday, Nov. 22, 1963, in broad daylight, at half past noon, and despite his Secret Service protection, President John F. Kennedy was fatally shot in the head while sitting in his midnight-blue 1961 Lincoln Continental open limousine as it slowly motorcaded through Dealey Plaza in downtown Dallas, TX. (President Kennedy also received several nonfatal bullet wounds. Texas Gov. John Connally, seated on a jump seat in front of JFK, suffered multiple nonfatal bullet wounds.)

Case Study Of Indoor Air Quality Of Health Care Facilities And Hospitals In Malaysia / Phuah Kok Sun, Kok Sun Phuah

Student Works (2010-2019)

Hospitals and healthcare facilities are buildings that require proper design for diverse environment due to their nature. The comfort of occupants and the spread of germs should be consider in the design of such facilities. Airborne diseases have become a serious concern after the spread of influenza H1N1 and Severe Acture Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) viruses. Healthcare facilities, particularly those built in the past, do not consider air as the transport medium for infectious diseases. Most of the recent studies in indoor air control revolve around specialized environments such as isolation rooms and operating theatres. This dissertation studies the indoor air …

Image-Based Quantification Of Benzoporphyrin Derivative Uptake, Localization, And Photobleaching In 3d Tumor Models, For Optimization Of Pdt Parameters, Michael D. Glidden, Jonathan P. Celli, Iqbal Massodi, Imran Rizvi, Brian Pogue, Tayyaba Hasan Sep 2012

Image-Based Quantification Of Benzoporphyrin Derivative Uptake, Localization, And Photobleaching In 3d Tumor Models, For Optimization Of Pdt Parameters, Michael D. Glidden, Jonathan P. Celli, Iqbal Massodi, Imran Rizvi, Brian Pogue, Tayyaba Hasan

Dartmouth Scholarship

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a light-based treatment modality in which wavelength specific activation of a photosensitizer (PS) generates cytotoxic response in the irradiated region. PDT response is critically dependent on several parameters including light dose, PS dose, uptake time, fluence rate, and the mode of light delivery. While the systematic optimization of these treatment parameters can be complex, it also provides multiple avenues for en- hancement of PDT efficacy under diverse treatment conditions, provided that a rational framework is established to quantify the impact of parameter selection upon treatment re- sponse. Here we present a theranostic technique, combining the inherent …

Social Work In A Very Rural Place: A Study Of Practitioners In The Upper Peninsula Of Michigan, Paul Force-Emery Mackie Msw, Phd

Contemporary Rural Social Work Journal

This study focuses on characteristics, challenges, and benefits of practicing social work in the Upper Peninsula (UP) of Michigan. Using a mixed-methods design, data were analyzed to determine demographic descriptors, seek differences between groups, and learn why social workers pursue and remain in social service employment in the UP. In addition, challenges and benefits of rural practice and perceptions of living and working in this region are addressed. Quantitatively, differences were found between younger and older social workers regarding where they currently live and where they grew up, and whether or not they were raised in a rural location. Qualitative …

Children’S Eyewitness Identification As Implicit Moral Decision-Making, Toni Spring, Herbert D. Saltzstein, Roger Peach Sep 2012

Children’S Eyewitness Identification As Implicit Moral Decision-Making, Toni Spring, Herbert D. Saltzstein, Roger Peach

Publications and Research

Why are young children particularly prone to make false positive errors or false alarms when identifying a wrongdoer? In three studies the problem was approached using a signal detection analysis, focusing on the moral costs of false alarms, as understood at different points in development. The findings are: (1) decisional criteria became more conservative, indicating fewer false alarms, with age in three studies, (2) children’s beliefs about the seriousness of false alarms and misses changed from (a) a non-moral concern to (b) a moral concern for false negatives or misses to (c) a moral concern for false alarms. (3) These …

Living As Migrants In A Place That Was Once Home The Nisei, The Us Bases, And Okinawan Society, Johanna O. Zulueta Sep 2012

Living As Migrants In A Place That Was Once Home The Nisei, The Us Bases, And Okinawan Society, Johanna O. Zulueta

Philippine Studies: Historical and Ethnographic Viewpoints

Born in Okinawa of Okinawan mothers and Filipino fathers, many Nisei who were brought up in the Philippines have returned to Okinawa as adults to seek economic mobility, acquire Japanese citizenship, and search for part of their roots. However, their mixed heritage, lack of proficiency in the Japanese language, and reliance on the US military bases for their livelihood put them in an ambivalent position in Okinawan society. Concerning the controversial US presence in Okinawa, the Nisei have ambivalent sentiments, which reflect their own uncertain position in Okinawan society, but this ambivalence also mirrors the conflicted views of other Okinawans.

Indirect Consequences Of Hypolimnetic Hypoxia On Zooplankton Growth In A Large Eutrophic Lake, Daisuke Goto, Kara Lindelof, David L. Fanslow, Stuart A. Ludsin, Steven A. Pothoven, James J. Roberts, Henry A. Vanderploeg, Alan E. Wilson, Tomas O. Höök Sep 2012

Indirect Consequences Of Hypolimnetic Hypoxia On Zooplankton Growth In A Large Eutrophic Lake, Daisuke Goto, Kara Lindelof, David L. Fanslow, Stuart A. Ludsin, Steven A. Pothoven, James J. Roberts, Henry A. Vanderploeg, Alan E. Wilson, Tomas O. Höök

School of Biological Sciences: Faculty Publications

Diel vertical migration (DVM) of some zooplankters in eutrophic lakes is often compressed during peak hypoxia. To better understand the indirect consequences of seasonal hypolimnetic hypoxia, we integrated laboratory-based experimental and field-based observational approaches to quantify how compressed DVM can affect growth of a cladoceran, Daphnia mendotae, in central Lake Erie, North America. To evaluate hypoxia tolerance of D. mendotae, we conducted a survivorship experiment with varying dissolved oxygen concentrations, which demonstrated high sensitivity of D. mendotae to hypoxia (≤2 mg O2 l−1), supporting the field observations of their behavioral avoidance of the hypoxic hypolimnion. To investigate the …

Cost-Effective Asthma Treatments For Uninsured Or Underinsured Pediatric Patients, Karlen E. (Beth) Luthy, Emilianne Dougall, Renea L. Beckstrand Sep 2012

Cost-Effective Asthma Treatments For Uninsured Or Underinsured Pediatric Patients, Karlen E. (Beth) Luthy, Emilianne Dougall, Renea L. Beckstrand

Faculty Publications

Nurse practitioners should constantly compare a medication's potential effect with its associated cost, thus identifying the most cost-effective treatment plan. Such an approach is warranted for both pediatric and adult patients. Prescribing medications for children who are uninsured or underinsured can be especially challenging, particularly for those patients diagnosed with a chronic health condition requiring routine treatment and follow-up. Asthma can be such a chronic illness for which the cost associated with treatment may become a barrier to compliance with the treatment plan. Cost-effective treatment options for asthma in the pediatric patient are presented.
