In the past two decades, there has been an increased demand for more innovative individuals and organizations. In response to this need, a number of groups have begun to teach innovation courses to improve people's innovation skills. While many of these groups report success in helping people become more innovative, there is no way to test the effectiveness of the innovation courses. This study describes the development and initial validation of an innovation test instrument. It demonstrates how the author identified the content domain of the test and created test items. Analytical Thermal Model Of Friction Stir Welding With Spatially Distributed Heat Source, Gordon Scott Reese

Friction stir welding (FSW) has been studied extensively for the past two decades. Thermal modeling has been of particular interest, as the quality of the weld is dependent upon the temperature history of the work piece during the process. Since direct temperature measurements of the welded zone are not possible, an analytical model was developed to predict the temperature in this area. This model requires parameters that cannot be easily experimentally determined, so a best fit for these parameters was acquired via regression analysis by comparing the model to experimental data acquired outside of the weld zone. We begin with an overview of some signal processing terms and topics relevant to music analysis including facts about human sound perception. We then discuss common objectives of music analysis and existing methods for accomplishing them. We conclude with an introduction to a new method of automatically transcribing a piece of music from a digital audio signal.

Parowan Fremont Faunal Exploitation: Resource Depression Or Feasting?, Sara E. Stauffer

The faunal remains of large game such as mule deer, pronghorn, and mountain sheep are abundant at Fremont sites, as are jackrabbits and cottontails. The proportions of these species in Fremont faunal assemblages fluctuate through time. Explanations for these variations range from resource depression to communal activities. This thesis provides the results of the faunal analysis from three previously unreported sites. Paragonah (42IN43), Summit (42IN40), and Parowan (42IN100) are large Fremont sites in the Parowan Valley located 20 miles north of Cedar City in Utah. Timber harvesting has been shown to have both positive and negative effects on forest dwelling species. We examined the immediate effects of timber harvests (clearcuts and group selection openings) on ectotherm behavior, using the eastern box turtle as a model. We monitored the movement and thermal ecology of 50 adult box turtles using radiotelemetry from May–October for two years prior to, and two years following scheduled timber harvests in the Central Hardwoods Region of the U.S. Annual home ranges (7.45 ha, 100% MCP) did not differ in any year or in response to timber harvests, but were 33% larger than …

This article provides strategies for engaging students in learning about information evaluation in the contexts of the scientific publication cycle and communication in the digital age. Also included are recent findings regarding undergraduate student research behavior and ideas for integrating constructivist learning theory in order to develop effective learning activities that encourage curiosity and critical thinking.

Research has established an indirect influence between school principals and student achievement on standardized tests. This paper considers how to measure the relationships between teacher and principal perceptions of four dimensions of principal leadership in New Mexicos K-12 schools—setting a shared vision, developing a culture of learning, managing resources, and collaborating with the community—and student scaled score growth over four years on New Mexico's standards-based assessments. Using two valid, reliable survey instruments, data was electronically collected from 437 teachers and 41 principals; aggregate reading and math scaled scores were also collected for all students in these 41 schools. For art to become personally meaningful to visitors, museums need to view art interpretation as a narrative inquiry process. General museum visitors without art expertise naturally make meaning of art by constructing stories around a work to relate to it. Narrative inquiry, a story based exploration of experience, fits into contemporary museum education theory because it is a constructive and participatory meaning making process. This thesis examines how art museums can build upon visitors' natural interpretive behaviors, by employing art-based narrative inquiry practices and using the work of art as a narrative story text. Although George Kelly's psychology of personal constructs was not originally designed to address and account for experiences of self-betrayal, as described by Warner (1986, 2001), Olson (2004, 2007), Olson and Israelson (2007), Williams (2005), and others (Arbinger, 2000), his theory (with minor modifications) may help illuminate the psychology behind the sudden gestaltic shifts and moral transformations experienced by individuals in Warner's (1986, 2001) stories, without undoing any of Warner's existing analysis of self betrayal.The end vision of the thesis is a structured theory of personality, so to speak, that borrows Kelly's insights and extends them to the phenomenon of self-betrayal. …
