Comparing Overexcitability Levels Between Stem Talented Students And Generally Gifted Students Using The Oeqii, Taylor Imburgia '13, Deborah Mcgrath, Christopher G. Kolar

Gifted individuals have been shown to have higher developmental potential, making them more likely to exhibit overexcitabilities (OEs) classified as psychomotor, sensual, intellectual, imaginational, or emotional. The OE levels between IMSA males and females and between IMSA students interested in STEM and Ohio generally gifted students were examined using the Overexcitabilty Questionnaire-two. Data from 70 IMSA sophomores were analyzed using descriptive statistics, ANOVA, and Bonferroni Correction method. Results showed that IMSA females had significantly higher sensual and emotional levels than males. Both IMSA males and females exhibited significantly lower imaginational OE levels than the Ohio students. This study will hopefully …

Recent literature lauding indigenous ‘localism’ has led to the proliferation of local resource management institutions which has subsequent implications regarding the developmentconservation nexus: this localist paradigm risks entrenching a rigid definition of ‘local’, especially within the rural sector. Mobility is a fundamental tenet of a liberal democratic society while migration occurs for myriad reasons; migrant communities often remain marginalized and susceptible to human rights abuses. This dissertation details a novel method to fabricate magnetic sensors using nanowire giant magnetoresistance (GMR) thin films. In 1988, Albert Fert and Peter Grünberg both independently discovered a new physical phenomenon called GMR. GMR is a quantum mechanical effect found in thin film materials that are composed of alternating nanoscale ferromagnetic and non-magnetic conductive layers. When a GMR material is in the presence of a magnetic field, a change in electrical resistance is observed. The GMR effect has been utilized to produce magnetic sensors that have been used in a variety of applications, such as computer hard drive read heads, …

Due to lack of trans-cultural consistency comparability in financial reporting was compromised hindering multinational investment. A polymer nanostructured Fabry-Perot interferometer (FPI) based biosensor has been developed, fabricated, and tested. Different from a conventional FPI, this nanostructured FPI has a layer of Au-coated nanopores inside its cavity. The Au-coated nanostructure layer offers significant enhancement of optical transducing signals due to the localized surface Plasmon resonance (L-SPR) effect. Compared to a traditional FPI for label-free biosensing applications, the polymer nanostructured FPI based biosensor offers increased sensing surface area, extended penetration depth of the excitation light, and amplification of optical transducing signals. In this study, the Brief Assessment of Traits – 37 (BAT37) was developed to measure the presence of the personality traits initially proposed for inclusion in the personality disorders section of the DSM-5. The structure of the measure was supported by the results of a pilot study and its construct validity was supported by correlations with theoretically-related scales from the PAI, DAPP-BQ, and HEXACO-PI-R. The BAT37 was administered to a sample of undergraduate college students and clients at a residential substance use disorder (SUD) treatment facility.

Alcohol exposure is associated with increased lung infections and decreased mucociliary clearance. Occupational workers exposed to dusts from concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs) are at risk for developing chronic inflammatory lung diseases. Agricultural worker co-exposure to alcohol and organic dust has been established, although little research has been conducted on the combination effects of alcohol and organic dusts on the lung. Previously, we have shown in a mouse model that exposure to hog dust extract (HDE) collected from a CAFO results in the activation of protein kinase C (PKC), elevated lavage fluid cytokines/chemokines including interleukin-6 (IL-6), and the development of …

This study evaluated the effectiveness of using the Almena Method keyboarding program to teach keyboarding to 4th grade students. Student characteristics were evaluated to measure their effect upon keyboarding success. Seventeen Midwestern fourth grade students of a mixed sex, ethnic, and racial orientation were involved. Students participated in daily 30-minute keyboarding lessons for four weeks. Students tended to increase their keyboarding speed by 33%. Age affected success inversely. Younger students improved more than older students. Music Experience had a positive effect. Larger-handed students improved the most. Gender and athletic background didn’t have any effect upon keyboarding improvement. The specific student …

Cerebral blood flow (CBF) is known to be dysregulated in persons with human immunodeficiency virus 1 (HIV-1), for uncertain reasons. This is an important issue because impaired vasoreactivity has been associated with increased risk of ischemic stroke, elevated overall cardiovascular risk and cognitive impairment.

Synesthesia, often referred to as a blending of the senses, is known for its involuntary and automatic perceptual responses. Generally, synesthetic perception is known to be quite varied, both in the types of synesthesia and in the perceptions amongst individuals within each of these types. Despite this, a few commonalities have been located in populations of color-grapheme synesthetes, those who perceive letters and numbers with colors. We aimed to similarly locate potential commonalities in the perceptions of a population of colored-hearing synesthetes, those who have visual responses with auditory stimulation.

Canvassing Generations: Art Through Postmemory, Julianne Norton

Investigated the legitimacy if postmemory, its relationship with art, and completed a creative project addressing the four generations of artists leading to the Norton family. What is postmemory? How does artwork allow for the conceptualization of memory? The research supported the existence of postmemory and led to an increased understanding, analyzing, and recreation of artwork from each of the previous four generations. This artwork served as a tangible form of my own postmemory.

The purpose of this quantitative study was to evaluate how two interventions, based upon two substantially different theories of creativity, impact 125 Latina female childcare providers and their assistants’ level of creativity. The age range of the participants was 27 – 71 years old, and the experience of the participants varied from 1 to 32 years as a child caregiver. This secondary data analysis study was based on a post test only, true experimental design. This study contributes to understanding of how to reverse the decline of creativity in Latina childcare providers with high cultural sensitivity, and fidelity.

Stadtlander and Giles (2010) showed the feasibility of an online psychology research laboratory. The proposed study extends their work by examining whether students’ research skills and self-efficacy improves in an online lab, as has been reported in land based research labs (Love et al., 2007).

A review of literature revealed a gap in research on effective ways to promote education in the far eastern rural areas of Ghana where the village of Kpanlori is located. This case study used purposeful sampling of eight key informants in a food security program designed to increase enrollment in primary school in Kpanlori. Findings revealed the importance of addressing food insecurity issues and tradition in order to increase regular school attendance.

The Relationship Among Emotional Intelligence And Leadership Styles Of Law Enforcement Executives, Gregory Jr. Campbell

A quantitative correlational study that examined the relationship among leadership styles and emotional intelligence (EI) of law enforcement executives. Hypotheses were tested using data collected from 139 members of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP). Results indicated that EI had a statistically significant relationship with six leadership styles factors.
