In the eighties, the German-Swiss artist Dieter Roth (1930-1998) formulated a theory of money which throws a cruel light on one of the most important instruments of social exchange. That money often comes from dirty business is a commonplace even if it cannot be denied as a fact. But the artist went beyond this observation. Far from being a "beautiful soul," Dieter Roth developed the idea that it belongs to the essence of money to have dark and criminal origins which arise from the same sources as our fears. Vermicomposting, or worm composting as it is more commonly known, is the process of using worms to break down discarded food and other organic wastes and convert them into compost and liquid fertilizers. Not only will this process save you money, but it will also downscale your environmental footprint. Vermicompost systems can be purchased online or assembled cheaply by up-cycling materials found around the house or at a local thrift store.

The Effect Of Growth Parameters On The Height And Density Of Carbon Nanotube Forests, Robert Welch Call

Rolled-up graphene sheets, known as carbon nanotubes, are grown in vertically aligned arrays called carbon nanotube forests (CNTFs). CNTFs make extremely dark surfaces. They are being investigated for use on space crafts as calibration surfaces and to protect optical sensors from unwanted signals. These CNTFs are grown by injecting a precursor consisting of a metal catalyst particle and a hydrocarbon component into a furnace at high temperature (~700°C). This study investigates the influence of several different growth parameters on the final height and density of the CNTF. Height and density influence the absorbance of the surface at different wavelengths.

Network-on-chips (NoCs) are one of the most scalable mediums to interconnect different processors in a multi-processor system. The processors are connected to routers via network interfaces and the routers are connected to each other through links. A routing algorithm is implemented inside each router that decides the path that a packet must take to reach the destination processor from the source. If a path is heavily utilized, the links and routers comprising the path start to age, and therefore can become faulty with time. Antennas are the most essential and significant elements of any wireless communication system. The most common antennas used in wireless communication systems include dipoles/monopoles, horn antennas, loop antennas, and micro-strip antennas. Each type possesses inherent advantages and disadvantages that make them satisfactory for particular applications. The properties of these antennas, however, are fixed by the initial design and cannot be changed. These fixed properties impose restrictions on the overall system performance as the antenna cannot adapt its characteristics in response to the changing propagation parameters of the wireless medium. Populations of greater sage-grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus; hereafter sage-grouse) have been declining range-wide for the last century (Connelly et al. 2004). The range of sage-grouse has declined from a historical pre-settlement distribution of 1.2 million square km to only 668,000 square km as of the year 2000 (Schroeder et al. 2004).

Introduction

Diabetes, hypertension, and hypercholesterolemia are common chronic diseases among Hispanics, a group projected to comprise 30% of the US population by 2050. Mexican Americans are the largest ethnically distinct subgroup among Hispanics. We assessed the prevalence of and risk factors for undiagnosed and untreated diabetes, hypertension, and hypercholesterolemia among Mexican Americans in Cameron County, Texas.

Methods

Fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) is a chronic pain syndrome that is typically characterized by chronic and widespread pain; tenderness; sleep problems, fatigue, and muscle stiffness. Additional symptoms are many and can include cognitive impairment, numbness, and psychological distress such as anxiety and depression. FMS is typically diagnosed using criteria that were established by the American College of Rheumatology in 2010 and is currently experienced by approximately 5 million adults in the United States. A biopsychosocial conceptualization of the etiology of FMS currently exists, wherein the development of FMS is attributed to the interplay of particular predisposing, precipitating, and perpetuating factors. This study used an MFT perspective to examine a model of three bio-psychosocial constructs, seeking to depict key dimensions of what makes couples successful in managing the demanding self-care regimen of diabetes. The model includes a meaning and emotion-oriented construct called relationship with diabetes, a psychosocial relational construct of diabetes-specific partnering support, and their direct and indirect effects on an endogenous construct of success in diabetes management. Surveys from 118 adult couples with diabetes provided data to test the hypothesized path and measurement model. Lung cancer affects many people in the United States, accounting for 14.5% of cancer cases in 2010. Additionally, it is responsible for more cancer-related deaths than any other cancer type. Those living with lung cancer also experience a higher prevalence of psychological distress and mood problems relative to most other cancer types. Despite the high physical and mental health burden borne by those living with lung cancer, psychosocial research on lung cancer generally lags far behind comparable studies in other cancer populations.
