The upcoming official opening of the Tucker Student Center at Gardner-Webb University will serve a dual purpose with the unveiling of the new exhibit gallery for the School of Performing and Visual Arts. “The Alumni Collection Exhibit” will feature a variety of artwork covering nearly the entire history of the visual arts department. An invitation-only kickoff celebration for the entire Tucker Student Center, including the new gallery, is scheduled for Aug. 28 at 4 p.m.

With heavy hearts, officials at Gardner-Webb University are saluting the life of a man who claimed that his time at Gardner-Webb guided him to fulfill his life’s purpose. Dr. John Roberts, the retired editor of the Baptist Courier and recipient of an honorary doctorate from GWU, died Wednesday, Aug. 15. He was 85.

The purpose of this dissertation was to explore the potential use of net impulse and its characteristics in vertical jumping to monitor athletes' performance status and responses/adaptations to interventions. Five variables were proposed as net impulse characteristics: net impulse height and width, rate of force development, shape factor, and net impulse proportion. The following were then examined: 1) test-retest reliability of a new approach to identify net impulse in a force-time curve and of net impulse characteristics and criterion validity of the new approach; 2) effective measures of net impulse characteristics; 3) relationships between training-induced changes in its characteristics and …
