Manners, Victoria Bosch Murray

Booth

They found him dead in a field two blocks from home. Suicide, of course.
He must have considered (and then rejected) the options: a gun, its firm
steel comforting and masculine but ultimately too messy. Someone would
have to clean up after him. Slitting his wrists in the bathtub? A luminal

Managerial Action And Resource Advantage Theory: Conceptual Frameworks Emanating From A Positive Theory Of Competition, Shelby D. Hunt, Sreedhar Madhavaram Aug 2012

Managerial Action And Resource Advantage Theory: Conceptual Frameworks Emanating From A Positive Theory Of Competition, Shelby D. Hunt, Sreedhar Madhavaram

Business Faculty Publications

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to illustrate that conceptual frameworks developed from a general theory of competition, i.e. resourceadvantage (R-A) theory, can facilitate managerial action. Design/methodology/approach – After a brief overview of resource-advantage (R-A) theory, five conceptual frameworks are developed and offered for the purposes of managerial action. Findings – This paper identifies several conceptual frameworks and after noting that conceptual frameworks that do not have positive theoretical foundations may not be as useful as those that do, develops five conceptual frameworks that are based on R-A theory. Practical implications – The conceptual frameworks developed in this …

Multinational Enterprise Competition: Grounding The Eclectic Paradigm Of Foreign Production In Resource-Advantage Theory, Dennis E. Arnett, Sreedhar Madhavaram

Business Faculty Publications

Purpose – This paper seeks to explicate a dynamic theory of competition, i.e. the resource-advantage theory of competition, with the aim of developing a theoretical foundation for the eclectic paradigm of foreign production. Design/methodology/approach – The paper is conceptual in approach. Findings – The paper develops a set of five criteria that should be met by any theory that attempts to ground the eclectic paradigm. In addition, it demonstrates that the resource-advantage theory of competition meets all of these criteria. Research limitations/implications – By providing a theoretical foundation for the eclectic paradigm of foreign production, the paper provides researchers with …

Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine Faculty Publications

A pharmacologic approach to male contraception remains a longstanding challenge in medicine. Toward this objective, we explored the spermatogenic effects of a selective small-molecule inhibitor (JQ1) of the bromodomain and extraterminal (BET) subfamily of epigenetic reader proteins. Here, we report potent inhibition of the testis-specific member BRDT, which is essential for chromatin remodeling during spermatogenesis. Biochemical and crystallographic studies confirm that occupancy of the BRDT acetyl-lysine binding pocket by JQ1 prevents recognition of acetylated histone H4. Treatment of mice with JQ1 reduced seminiferous tubule area, testis size, and spermatozoa number and motility without affecting hormone levels. Although JQ1-treated males mate …

Nebraska Monthly Economic Indicators: August 17, 2012, Eric Thompson, William Walstad, Adam George Aug 2012

Nebraska Monthly Economic Indicators: August 17, 2012, Eric Thompson, William Walstad, Adam George

Leading Economic Indicator Reports

The Leading Economic Indicator – Nebraska (LEI-N) grew by 1.24% during July 2012. The increase in the LEI-N, which predicts economic growth in the state six months in the future, follows two months of decline. Improvement in the indicator during July confirms that the Nebraska economy will continue to grow in late 2012 and early 2013, though growth will be slow. A primary reason for the improvement in the LEI-N was a sharp drop in initial unemployment claims during July, which suggests stability in the Nebraska labor market. Building permits for single-family homes also rose during July, an improving signal …

Who Am I? ~ Undergraduate Computer Science Student, Jane Ferris

Reports

As part of a school review process a survey of the students was designed to gain insight into who the students of the school were. The survey was a voluntary anonymous online survey. Students were able to skip questions and select more than one option in some questions. This was to reduce frustration with participation in the survey and ensure that the survey was completed. This conference details the average undergraduate Computer Science student of a large third level institute.

Department of Biology Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works

We have previously shown that the Coxsackievirus and adenovirus receptor (CAR) can interact with post-synaptic density 95 (PSD-95) and localize PSD-95 to cell-cell junctions. We have also shown that activity of the acid sensing ion channel (ASIC3), a H+-gated cation channel that plays a role in mechanosensation and pain signaling, is negatively modulated by PSD-95 through a PDZ-based interaction. We asked whether CAR and ASIC3 simultaneously interact with PSD-95, and if so, whether co-expression of these proteins alters their cellular distribution and localization. Results indicate that CAR and ASIC3 co-immunoprecipitate only when co-expressed with PSD-95. CAR also brings both PSD-95 …
