Individual Versus Collective Enforcement Rights In Sovereign Bonds, Sönke Häseler Aug 2012

Individual Versus Collective Enforcement Rights In Sovereign Bonds, Sönke Häseler

German Working Papers in Law and Economics

Ten years ago, sovereign bond markets almost universally adopted so-called collective action clauses after years of public sector pressure for more efficient procedures to cope with sovereign default and restructuring. A second policy initiative, the standard appointment of a trustee to centralise enforcement of the bondholders’ claims against the debtor, has however remained largely fruitless. Yet, in light of the current European debt crisis, the need for market-based restructuring procedures is greater than ever.

This short article provides a non-technical summary of earlier research on individual versus collective enforcement rights regimes. It evaluates theoretical arguments made in the literature and …

Depression And Anxiety As Predictors Of Obesity In Children, Cortney J. Taylor

Open Access Dissertations

In addition, this study was the first to expand upon prior research by determining whether symptoms of depression, anxiety, and social anxiety were associated with BMI at six month follow up in this age group, and whether gender moderated the relationship of internalizing symptoms and BMI. Finally, the …

Nuclear Dna Content And Genome Size Of American Ginseng, Samuel G. Obae Aug 2012

Nuclear Dna Content And Genome Size Of American Ginseng, Samuel G. Obae

Open Access Author Fund Awardees' Articles

Flow cytometry analysis of propidium iodide (PI) stained nuclei isolated from leaf tissues was used to estimate the genome size of American ginseng (Panax quinquefolius L.) and evaluate inhibitor y effects of its secondary compounds on PI intercalation. American ginseng nuclear DNA content was estimated to be 10.05 ± 0.04 pg/2C, and therefore its haploid (1C) genome size is 4914 Mbp. There was no significant inhibition of PI fluorescence of reference standard nuclei co-processed with American ginseng. This indicates that secondary compounds of American ginseng do not interfere with PI intercalation. By comparison, the genome size of American ginseng is …

Press Releases

Informed by a background in biochemistry and cultural anthropology, Dr. Spier executed a 10- year research project on religion, politics and ecology in Andean Peru, which led to the publication of two books: Religious Regimes in Peru and San Nicolás de Zurite. In his most recent publication, Big History and the Future of Humanity, he presents an original theoretical approach that makes "big history" -- the placing of the human past within the history of life, the Earth, and the Universe -- accessible to general readers while revealing insights into what the future may hold for humanity.
