Electrochemical biosensors are central to wearable diagnostics, point-of-care testing, and continuous health monitoring due to their low power requirements, compatibility with miniaturized electronics, and proven clinical impact. Despite these advantages, the development of new electrochemical biosensors remains slow, constrained by limited throughput, complex electrode–biomolecule interfaces, and challenges associated with selectivity and performance in chemically complex environments. This perspective outlines how the next generation of electrochemical biosensors can be enabled by decoupling high-throughput front-end discovery and optimization from electrochemical readouts using nonelectrochemical surrogate assays. OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether lung microbial composition differs between individuals with rheumatoid arthritis and pulmonary fibrosis (RA-PF) compared to those without fibrosis (RA-no-PF).

METHODS: We enrolled 54 RA patients (22 RA-PF, 32 RA-no-PF) from rheumatology and pulmonary clinics. PF was defined by high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) findings. Induced sputum was analyzed using 16 S rRNA sequencing to identify the relative abundance of sputum bacteria. Taxonomic differences between groups were evaluated using three independent analytic approaches: Mann-Whitney U, DESeq2, and EdgeR, with false discovery rate correction. Logistic regression examined associations between Lautropia abundance and clinical variables.

How Shale Boom-Era Municipal Debt Could Undermine Community Resilience During The Energy Transition, Brandon Charles

Local governments in oil and gas-producing regions took on significant municipal debt during the U.S. shale boom to build schools, water systems, and other infrastructure to accommodate rapid population growth. This brief uses Mergent municipal bond issuance data and interviews with local government officials to describe debt accumulation in shale boom communities (N=2,519 counties; 2004–2015) and its implications for the energy transition. The author finds that shale boom communities accumulated approximately $782 more in municipal debt per capita than comparable communities, a 26% increase totaling $1.9 billion across 58 shale boom counties. Physics education research (PER) plays an important role in improving teaching strategies and student outcomes in STEM education. This study examined relationships among academic preparedness, sense of belonging, and academic performance in introductory physics and introductory astronomy courses at the University of Missouri–St. Louis (UMSL). Diagnostic assessments, belonging surveys, and academic performance measures were used across multiple instructional phases. The study also explored the implementation of assistant-centered peer interventions model, targeted math reviews, and motivational starts designed to support student engagement and belonging. Higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) are essential competencies in biology learning, yet many students continue to struggle with engaging in analytical, evaluative, and reflective thinking processes during science instruction. This study examines the role of AI-based metacognitive tutoring in supporting the development of HOTS in biology education. Employing a conceptual and correlational research design, this study integrates theoretical analysis with empirical correlational data collected from 85 senior high school students in Lombok, Indonesia. Myosin II motors within ensembles exhibit emergent force-generating behavior that varies based on ensemble size and makeup. However, the mechanisms by which myosins within ensembles sense and modulate behavior due to local and systemic changes in motor behavior, and concomitantly mechanics, remains unclear. To understand how myosin kinetics alter ensemble-level force generation, we employ myosin inotropes, specifically Mavacamten (MAVA) and Omecamtiv Mecarbil (OM), to pointedly alter myosin behavior in a concentration-dependent manner. This investigation was conducted to assess the Prevalence of Dysphonia, while comparing indoor and outdoor athletic coaches. This investigation also looked at the prevalence of self-perceived vocal dysphonia symptoms within collegiate athletic coaches. This study was conducted by distributing a survey to the Division I athletic coaches in the state of Arkansas. The survey consisted of demographic questions, a questionnaire that explored the self-perceived vocal symptoms, clinician perspective vocal ratings, and acoustic parameters of voice recordings. Teacher burnout presents ongoing challenges in high-poverty rural schools, affecting teacher retention and instructional quality. In the Arkansas Delta, educators frequently navigate complex professional and emotional demands. The purpose of this convergent parallel mixed-methods study was to examine the influence of students’ socioeconomic background and teachers’ perceived stress on overall teacher burnout and each of its dimensions: emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and reduced personal accomplishment. Perceived stress was measured using the PSS-10, a unidimensional instrument that assesses the appraisal of stress, or how unpredictable life feels. This dissertation examines the evolving public memory of the Elaine Massacre of 1919 through a critical analysis of media representation, commemorative practices, and descendant-led advocacy. Situating the massacre within the broader history of racial violence in the United States, the study argues that its significance extends beyond the events of 1919 to include the long-term processes of historical silencing, narrative distortion, and contested remembrance that have shaped its afterlife. In August 1921, roughly ten thousand armed coal miners marched toward Logan County, West Virginia, in the largest armed labor uprising in American history. When the fighting at Blair Mountain ended, the state prosecuted union leaders for treason against the state of West Virginia. This thesis examines that legal campaign of 1921–1923 and its long aftermath, arguing that the treason trials functioned less as a search for individual guilt than as an instrument for fixing the meaning of Blair Mountain before the miners could define it themselves. - Methadone has been used to treat opioid use disorder (OUD), including during pregnancy, for over 50 years.

Background: Wildfires in the USA are becoming more frequent and severe as climate change and population growth expand exposure in fire-prone regions. Understanding the human dimensions of wildfire preparedness—particularly how individuals perceive risk, build awareness, and develop evacuation readiness—is critical for effective fire management.

Methods: This study examines cognitive, experiential, behavioral, and sociodemographic predictors of wildfire preparedness using the wildfire-specific subsample (n = 509) from the 2023 FEMA National Household Survey. Generalized structural equation modeling (GSEM) was used to analyze three key outcomes: readiness awareness, evacuation readiness, and perceived wildfire risk.
