The IEEE 1451 standard is a family of standards that defines a framework for smart transducers, including both sensors and actuators, to support consistent, interoperable, and cost-effective integration across diverse applications. However, the current IEEE 1451.4 standard templates only define the method for encoding Transducer Electronic Data Sheet (TEDS) information for a broad range of sensor types and applications; they do not address actuator TEDS. Specific types of sensors and actuators are being developed to assess underground environmental conditions in cold regions with widespread permafrost. Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are associated with increased risks of chronic disease, mental health disorders, substance use disorders, and premature mortality. Despite growing evidence supporting ACE screening, it remains inconsistent in many primary care settings, particularly among underserved populations. The purpose of this quality improvement project was to evaluate whether implementation of a standardized ACE screening workflow increased ACE screening completion and behavioral health referral within a nonprofit primary care clinic serving uninsured, underinsured, and refugee populations.

Undergraduate instruction in ordinary differential equations (ODEs) is typically organized around the forward problem: finding solution trajectories when the governing equation and its parameters are known. In scientific practice, however, inverse problems are often more relevant, requiring unknown parameters to be inferred from noisy observations while assessing whether a proposed model is consistent with the data. We introduce PINNLab, an open-source MATLAB dashboard designed to help undergraduate students explore inverse modeling through physics-informed neural networks (PINNs). PINNLab presents PINNs as a complementary data-driven framework that connects differential equations, optimization, empirical data, and scientific machine learning. This study examined trust among diverse families of Abrahamic faiths across the United States. The 292 families who were part of this national study represent significant religious breadth (over 20 total denominations), geographic scope, and racial diversity, with 51% of the participants being racial/ethnic minorities. Married participants had at least one child. Education levels of participants ranged from G.E.D to Ph.D., with varying socioeconomic statuses. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with participants. Couples were hand-chosen by their respective religious leaders as being both relational and religious exemplars.

This thesis examines the ways that Homi Bhabha’s postcolonial Third Space theory aligns with writing centers, and more specifically writing centers in secondary schools. The thesis introduces Third Space theory in six characteristics and the ways that writing centers are Third Spaces. Next, through content analysis, 25 mission statements from secondary school writing centers are qualitatively coded to reveal what writing centers prioritize and understand about their center. Norovirus is a highly contagious viral gastroenteritis and can rapidly spread in healthcare settings, particularly in congregate environments such as inpatient rehabilitation units. In March 2025, a cluster of acute gastrointestinal illness was identified on a 34-bed inpatient rehabilitation unit within a 150-bed acute care hospital. Eight patients developed: • Nausea • Vomiting • Diarrhea • Abdominal pain Due to shared spaces, communal therapy activities, and high patient interaction, rapid intervention was initiated to prevent further spread.

Retrieval-Augmented Generation has become the way to improve Large Language Models. They help with problems like knowledge and hallucinations. Recent studies show that these models still have limitations. One big problem is the “Lost in the Middle” phenomenon. Models can’t access information in the middle of contexts properly. Recent advances in deep learning have significantly improved the performance of automated skin lesion classification systems, enabling accurate detection of various dermatological conditions from medical images. Despite these achievements, concerns regarding fairness and generalization remain a major challenge for the deployment of such systems in real-world clinical settings. A key factor contributing to these challenges is the presence of bias in training datasets, particularly with respect to skin-tone representation. Physics-informed machine learning improves the plausibility, data-efficiency and generalization of surrogate models by injecting prior physical knowledge into the learning process. The current approaches can be broadly divided into two main categories: soft constraints, which add a physics residual to the training loss but guarantee nothing at inference time, and hard constraints, which project the model output onto the constraint set exactly but apply the projection uniformly to every part of the signal — including parts that are dominated by noise, discretization error, or model mismatch, where the idealized physics is not actually trustworthy. Identifying the minimum-cost node-removal sequence that fragments a complex network - the network dismantling problem is NP-hard and central to infrastructure resilience. In interdependent multiplex networks, this difficulty is compounded by cascading cross-layer failures. While deep reinforcement learning (DRL) agents utilizing graph neural network (GNN) encoders achieve near-optimal dismantling, current state-of-the-art architectures suffer from two critical limitations. Topologically, existing agents strictly assume undirected edges, rendering them inapplicable to directed systems - such as supply chains or gene regulatory cascades - where failure propagation is fundamentally asymmetric. Direct Minimization Of Hartree-Fock-Roothaan Energy Functionals Using Derivative-Free Optimization Algorithms: A Case Study On The Use Of Noninteger Slater-Type Orbitals, Ali̇ Bağci

This study presents an evaluation of derivative-free optimization algorithms for the direct minimization of Hartree−Fock−Roothaan energy functionals involving nonlinear orbital parameters and noninteger-order quantum numbers. The analysis focuses on atomic calculations employing noninteger Slater-type orbitals. Analytic derivatives of the energy functional are not readily available for these orbitals. Four methods are investigated under identical numerical conditions: Powell’s conjugate−direction method, the Nelder−Mead simplex algorithm, coordinate-based pattern search, and a model-based algorithm utilizing radial basis functions for surrogate-model construction. Iron complexes with antioxidant activity have garnered significant interest for both general and medical applications, yet few studies have yielded functional nonheme iron-based mimics for H2O2 mitigation in aqueous environments. Here, we investigate water-soluble nonheme iron complexes derived from 12-membered pyridinophanes (CF3PyN3, PyN3, NMe2PyN3, and Py2N2) to evaluate the impact of ligand scaffolds on H2O2 decomposition activity both in vitro and in a cellular model. Background & aims: Clinical data show that genetic variants are significant risk factors for acute recurrent pancreatitis and chronic pancreatitis. To expand the understanding of the role of genetics in acute recurrent pancreatitis and chronic pancreatitis, high-throughput next-generation sequencing of 14 genes was completed in a multicenter pediatric cohort.

Methods: A cross-sectional study involving 944 pediatric patients with acute recurrent pancreatitis or chronic pancreatitis was conducted. CASR, CEL, CFTR, CLDN2, CPA1, CTRC, GGT1, PRSS1, PRSS2, PRSS3, SBDS, SLC26A9, SPINK1, and UBR1 were sequenced. From Centrality To Sustainability: How Connected Boards Shape Waste Management Outcomes, Irfan Haider Shakri, Anh Tuan Nguyen, Fnu Pratima

The escalating climate crisis has elevated waste management from an operational concern to a critical issue of corporate governance. However, the role of board connectedness in shaping firms' waste practices remains largely unexplored. Drawing on resource dependency and social capital theories, this study examines how board network centrality influences waste management practices. Employing pooled OLS on 4948 firm- year observations from US- listed firms during 2004–2023, we find that higher board connectedness leads to a significant reduction in waste generation. Economically, a one standard deviation increase in DEGREE centrality is associated with a 3.4% decrease in total waste generation. Our …

An exact analytical solution to a three-state photophysical model is presented to explicitly map the time-resolved fluorescence dynamics of a fluorophore under pulsed excitation. As distinct from earlier analytical treatments that primarily focused on transient absorption and total ground-state depletion, the proposed eigenvalue-eigenvector framework captures both transient and steady-state emission responses. The photophysical model accounts for electronic transitions between the singlet ground state, the excited singlet state and a long-lived triplet state, enabling a treatment of excitation, radiative decay, intersystem crossing, together with triplet-state relaxation. Wave attractors in viscous media exhibit laminar or turbulent behavior, dictated by the intensity of the external forcing. Laminar attractors are often assumed to behave as linear systems. However, existing studies typically focus on fully developed flows, neglecting the dynamic formation process of these attractors. We formulate a quantum-mechanical system consisting of a single discrete state coupled to an infinite ladder of equally spaced states, with the coupling described by a Lorentzian profile. Various limiting cases of this system correspond to well-known models in quantum optics: the narrow-resonance limit yields the Rabi model, the wide-resonance limit yields the Bixon--Jortner model, the wide-resonance true continuum limit yields the Wigner--Weisskopf model, and the fixed-resonance true continuum limit yields a system typically studied using methods developed by Fano. The problem of identifying additional local integrals of motion in generic three-dimensional potentials remains a fundamental issue in dynamical systems and galactic dynamics, since most realistic gravitational fields lack global symmetries or separable coordinate systems. In this study, we propose a general constructive method for deriving such local integrals by introducing auxiliary functions whose gradients define an orthogonal frame adapted to the potential. The central idea is that the velocity field can be characterized by two quadratic algebraic relations whose compatibility conditions uniquely determine the orthogonal frame and ensure the existence of two additional isolating integrals. Accurate documentation of Surgical Site Infection (SSI) prevention bundle components is essential for quality improvement and patient safety. In National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN)-reported colon (COLO) and hysterectomy (HYST) procedures, incomplete or inconsistent documentation undermines bundle fidelity and limits evaluation of outcomes. This initiative aims to determine whether embedding evidence-based interventions within implementation science frameworks improves documentation accuracy and ensures sustainability.
