Measuring The Paris Agreement’S Impact On Wind Energy Usage In Member Countries, Jadyn Lucey Apr 2025

Measuring The Paris Agreement’S Impact On Wind Energy Usage In Member Countries, Jadyn Lucey

Global Tides

This review examines the impact of the Paris Agreement's implementation on the development of wind energy across three regions, the European Union (EU), Brazil, and Saudi Arabia. These selected regions respectively represent developed, developing, and OPEC member countries. The Paris Agreement aimed to limit the global warming temperature 1.5 C by 2030, encouraging actors to transition their energy into cleaner, renewable sources. Wind energy thus emerged as a tool in the decarbonization efforts of the agreement. This review compares wind energy growth before and after the Paris Agreement's establishment, through analyzing each region's strategies in response to their differing economic …

Talking Trash: The Development Of International Legal Governance Over Marine Plastic Pollution, Olivia B. Berryman Apr 2025

Talking Trash: The Development Of International Legal Governance Over Marine Plastic Pollution, Olivia B. Berryman

Global Tides

Increasing amounts of marine plastic pollution entering into the ocean endangers the lives of sea animals, harms the health of human seafood consumers, degrades the marine ecosystem, and contributes to climate change. Despite these consequences, there remains no international legally binding treaty that is solely devoted towards mitigating marine plastic pollution. While there are current treaties in place that have created some regulations to control the entrance of marine plastics into the ocean, none have achieved significant reduction and prevention of the issue due to flaws such as weak enforcement mechanisms and lenient restrictions on ocean dumping. Thus, this research …

La Puissance Douce Française Manifestée Par Les Politiques Linguistiques En Afrique, Barbara O. Olewska

Global Tides

After The Economic Downfall At The Coastal Frontier: A Portrait Of Women Persisting Amidst Sea Abrasion In Northern Bekasi, Muhammad R. A. Ghifari, Gilang Mahadika

Antropologi Indonesia

This article explores the socio-environmental transformations in Muara Gembong, a coastal frontier in northern Bekasi, Indonesia, that once thrived as a hub for shrimp and milkfish farming but is now grappling with environmental degradation and economic decline. By drawing on feminist political ecology (FPE), the study examines how women in the region have adapted to the deteriorating environment, driven by coastal erosion, mangrove loss, and the collapse of fish pond businesses. While men traditionally dominated the local economy as aquaculturists, women have assumed critical roles in sustaining household livelihoods through creative economic activities, such as weaving wlingi laut (Cyperus malaccensis) …

Roadrunner, Ethan Fontes

Research & Creativity Showcase

I am Ethan Fontes, a craftsman of both design and coffee, balancing two artistic identities, focusing on visual storytelling and coffee craftsmanship. RoadRunner is where these passions come together, a mobile coffee business that reflects my entrepreneurial spirit and creative journey. More than just a business concept, RoadRunner represents my college experience as a student, designer, and barista. My journey was shaped by constant travel, first as a commuter, then settling in Stockton, just like a trailer that travels and pauses for some time. The map in my design ties RoadRunner to my hometown, grounding it to my history. As …

Poor Elizabeth, Autum Begley

Research & Creativity Showcase

Music has always been my greatest source of inspiration. I am especially drawn to alternative bands, working to craft visual identities that amplify their energy, ethos, and unique sound. My design approach fuses bold aesthetics with raw emotion, transforming music into striking, unforgettable visuals that deeply resonate with audiences. Each project I take on is more than just a design—it’s a visual extension of the artist’s identity, an invitation for listeners to step into their world. One of my most compelling pieces is the album cover for Poor Elizabeth, which captures a fusion of noir aesthetics and gritty, alternative style. …

Due to fear and false information, snakes often get a bad reputation for being… Well, snakes. People who are cruel and untrustworthy are sometimes referred to as “snakes” however this is a misrepresentation of a snake’s nature. My first pet snake was a Western Hognose Snake (Heterodon nasicus) that showed me how wonderful and inquisitive snakes truly are. I’ve been caring for snakes for over a decade and it’s a special experience to have an animal that is normally reclusive and fearful to grow to trust and interact with you.

Painted Hognose is my homage to these beautiful and misunderstood …

Slip, A Typeface, Ethan Niemeyer Apr 2025

Slip, A Typeface, Ethan Niemeyer

Research & Creativity Showcase

Slip is a typeface born from clay—each letterform hand-sculpted to capture the organic textures, imperfections, and individuality that come from working with your hands. This project lives across multiple mediums: the original clay forms, an interactive digital font, and printed posters. Together, these elements create a multi-sensory experience that invites you to touch, type, and visually explore the work from different perspectives.

Inspired by my love for craft and a DIY approach, Slip pushes against the traditional, pixel-perfect standards of type design. As a graphic designer, I often find myself obsessing over precision—alignments, anchor points, and optical corrections. Slip became …

In My Seoul, Lizette Orozco Apr 2025

In My Seoul, Lizette Orozco

Research & Creativity Showcase

As a first-generation Mexican-American student, studying abroad in Seoul through the Gilman Scholarship was transformative. This experience inspired In My Seoul Illustrative Series, a visual storytelling project encouraging underrepresented students to pursue international education.

The series illustrates meaningful moments from my journey: cherry blossoms I’d dreamed of seeing, the playful Line Friends bunny statue in Hongdae, and Korean cuisine—each piece blending my heritage with Seoul’s vibrant culture. Through art, I aim to make study abroad relatable for first-gen and minority students, showcasing how design can foster cultural exchange.

Goals include inspiring students, promoting cross-cultural understanding, and celebrating personal connections. Success …

Pure Vision Reality (Pvr), Edel Razo Apr 2025

Pure Vision Reality (Pvr), Edel Razo

Research & Creativity Showcase

Clothing is always one of my biggest interests, and I enjoy styling outfits that reflect my personal aesthetic. However, with the rise of fast fashion, mass production leads to excessive textile waste and disposable, low-quality clothing. While I love fashion, I want to engage with it in a way that is more sustainable and intentional.

Pure Vision Reality (PVR) embraces a grunge-inspired style, with visuals that distort reality, creating eerie, surreal imagery influenced by nature, which reflects a "pure vision" of our world today. For this series, I focus on creating posters that embody the aesthetic of my clothing brand. …

Simpleberry, Mark Eresanara Apr 2025

Simpleberry, Mark Eresanara

Research & Creativity Showcase

Sweetness has always been something I’ve gravitated toward—not just in flavor, but in feeling. With Simple Berry, I wanted to explore how something as small as a jar of jam can bring comfort, familiarity, and joy into people’s daily lives. This project gave me the chance to blend visual storytelling with brand identity in a way that feels both playful and grounded.

The campaign uses visual metaphor as a central unifier, inspired by nature’s purest instinct: attraction to sweetness. I chose animals like the bee, butterfly, and hummingbird—creatures naturally drawn to nectar—to mirror how consumers are drawn to the jam …

Eye To Eye, Jovani Batuyong Apr 2025

Eye To Eye, Jovani Batuyong

Research & Creativity Showcase

While studying graphic design at the University of the Pacific, the biggest challenge that I came across was communication. As artists and designers, we use communication throughout every aspect of our lives, whether it is in conversations with clients, the collaboration of ideas with other creatives, or even the delivery of a central message in our designs. Likewise, it does not stop at graphic design – every living being, even plants, must use some form of communication, that is, if they wish to be understood. Because it is such an important aspect of all of our lives, everyone should treat …

Comic Booth, Payton Mcdougall

Research & Creativity Showcase

Hello, my name is Payton McDougall. I’m a graphic designer and illustrator working towards my Bachelor’s degree, who just so happens to be a writing hobbyist in my spare time. For my senior project, I combined my love of graphic design and illustration into a comic campaign series using an independent study I’ve been working on since fall of 2024 called “Dreamer’s Paradox”. Since I specialize in using my design abilities for advertising/branding and entertainment, the campaign features a variety of potential deliverables, mock-ups, comic pages, concept pages, and a themed booth for marketing. “Dreamer’s Paradox” is a tie between …

Myuphoria Festival Design, Caroline Rivera Apr 2025

Myuphoria Festival Design, Caroline Rivera

Research & Creativity Showcase

My original concept behind the name was to combine the captivating presence and storytelling of the muses in Greek mythology and merge it with the feeling of euphoria. My branding also ties into folklore and the seductive nature of sirens. The siren’s call becomes my own design language, incorporating seafoam textures—playing on the idea of a siren’s passing—with a warm color palette intentionally meant to be unconventional for imagery surrounding sirens. My work is based on the themes of wayfinding, mythology, and immersive design. This festival branding was purposefully designed to create a space where people can lose themselves and …

Interwoven Lives: A Historical Journey, Aimee Cordova Apr 2025

Interwoven Lives: A Historical Journey, Aimee Cordova

Research & Creativity Showcase

In this exhibition, "Interwoven Lives," I explore the profound and ongoing relationship between humans and animals throughout history. This collection of paintings delves into the intricate connections that have shaped our shared existence and reflects on how these bonds have evolved. From the earliest cave paintings to contemporary art, artists have depicted the relationship between animals and humans. These artworks serve as a testament to the significance of animals in our lives as companions, symbols, spiritual beings, partners in warfare, food sources, and sources of inspiration. By studying the history of different cultures’ relationships with animals, we gain insight into …

Voices In Red & Black, Mihailo Vukazic

Research & Creativity Showcase

My work explores the intersection of design, activism, and social change, using visual language as a tool to amplify urgent political and humanitarian messages. This exhibition focuses on the impact of student-led protests in Serbia, reflecting the power of collective action and the role of design in mobilizing movements. Drawing inspiration from protest graphics, I employ bold typography, stark contrasts, and urgent color schemes particularly red and black to evoke resistance, urgency, and remembrance. My posters and visual narratives are designed to be more than just images; they are calls to action, meant to be carried in the streets, shared …

Iron Roots, Arina Kelekhsaeva Apr 2025

Iron Roots, Arina Kelekhsaeva

Research & Creativity Showcase

Over the past four years I’ve discovered that what excites me most is creating designs for branding campaigns. Today, I’m presenting one of my projects — Iron Roots. “Iron Roots” is a branding campaign built on metaphor, exploring themes of strength, health and continuity through visual storytelling. This project is inspired by the image of strong tree roots and the strength and power of metal — symbols of resilience, endurance, and inner support for the human body and spirit. The Iron Roots campaign is aimed at an adult audience of 55-65 years old, for those who have spent most of …

Seasons, Hyunsoo Kim

Research & Creativity Showcase

This series of wire sculptures represents the four seasons; spring, summer, fall, and winter, through the symbolism of flowers. Each piece reflects the essence of its respective season, allowing the viewer to connect with personal memories and moments associated with nature’s changing rhythms. By using flowers as a medium, I hope to evoke emotions and memories tied to special times in life.

Nature has always been a significant source of inspiration in my work. In this project, I focused on flowers as symbols of growth, transformation, and the passage of time. The irregular, organic shapes of the wire sculptures reflect …

Academyhealth - 2024 Data Visualization Winners, Chelsea Keating, Emily Boniface, Mina Colon

OHSU-PSU School of Public Health Annual Conference

Social determinants of health, such as income, employment, social contexts, and the built environment, influence the risk of food insecurity. Food insecurity can be defined as uncertain access to food and can lead to negative health outcomes like increased risk for obesity, chronic disease, and adverse effects on a child's development and mental health. Drivers like limited physical access to food, limited transportation options, and the quality and access to food assistance programs within local systems perpetuate health disparities—particularly in those communities with populations who have been systematically marginalized. This descriptive study uses 2022 data from the National Health Interview …
