Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a large class of synthetic fluorinated compounds extensively used in industrial applications and consumer products due to their exceptional chemical stability and resistance to degradation. These same properties, however, contribute to their environmental persistence, leading to global contamination and growing concern over their ecological and human health impacts. This review provides a comprehensive synthesis of current knowledge on PFAS sources, environmental distribution, and transport across water, air, soil, sediments, and biota. This practice-led research proposes recurrence as a systematic photographic method, where Derrida's concept of iterability is achieved through controlled visual iteration. Through recurrence, identical objects undergo transformation across iterations because variations in light, motion and environmental conditions produce perceptual instability rather than visual sameness. This process produces uncanny effects identifiable through perceptual ambiguity (Jentsch), environmental transformation and reappearance of overlooked materials (Schelling). The work engages pre-Freudian concepts of the uncanny - Jentsch's intellectual uncertainty and Schelling's definition of the uncanny as ``something that should have remained hidden but has returned to light.'' Active hazard reporting is a key indicator in preventing workplace accidents and strengthening safety culture, particularly in high-risk industries such as coal port services. This study aimed to analyze internal and external factors associated with active hazard reporting among workers in the coal port services industry. A quantitative cross-sectional study with total sampling was conducted involving all workers (N = 130). Data were collected using a structured questionnaire measuring accident history, unsafe actions, unsafe conditions, supervisor support, performance appraisal, risk level, and hazard reporting activity. Mental imagery is theorised to support important mental simulation processes, yet there remains little direct evidence of its functional impact on affective, moral, and motivation outcomes. This study examined whether the ability to generate visual mental imagery amplifies “as-if-real” responding to a mentally constructed harm event. Using a modified laboratory harm provocation paradigm, Aphantasics (individuals with no or minimal visual imagery; N = 32) and Visualisers (those with normal to high imagery ability; N = 48) were asked to write down the sentence “I hope [name of a loved one] is in a car accident”, followed by instructed mental simulation …

Purpose

This study investigates how Chinese American communities responded to heightened racial discrimination during the COVID-19 pandemic by utilizing social media platforms to safeguard their civil rights, articulate collective concerns, and mobilize resistance against racial aggression.

Methodology

Through qualitative case study analysis, the research examines the social media activities of six advocacy organizations, including three X accounts (WashTheHate, Chinese for Affirmative Action, Asian Americans Advancing Justice) and three Instagram accounts (Stop AAPI Hate, Stop Asian Hate, Advancing Justice: AAJC). The analysis focuses on the content strategies and communication mechanisms employed to counteract racial hostility.

The current study presents a case of gingivitis caused by Cryptococcus albidus in a 35-year-old male from the city of Karbala in Iraq. This fungal species was identified via morphology, microscopy, additionally to the VITEK system. C. albidus was further confirmed using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique by amplifying the 18S rRNA gene as a universal primer and sequencing. Sequences analysis revealed that this strain of C. albidus had not been previously documented in the NCBI database. Hence, the newly obtained sequences were submitted to the GenBank repository and assigned the accession number OQ975882.1, marking the first report of …

Production voice-agent platforms typically hardcode their speech-to-text (STT) and text-to-speech (TTS) providers, and they read provider credentials from process environment variables at start-up. As a result, switching providers (or serving two tenants with different providers from a single process) requires a code change or a process restart, and it forces every tenant's secrets to coexist in one shared environment. Autonomous AI agents are overwhelmingly reactive: they wait for an inbound trigger and act only in response, missing the proactive opportunities a competent human handles unbidden — an approaching deadline, a review gone stale, a recommended self-improvement, a teammate who has gone quiet. The naive countermeasure — "act every N minutes" — spams the agent's own queue, drowns urgent items, and wastes inference budget on duplicate nudges.

There is little doubt as to the mark left by the 1994 Rwandan genocide on historical discourse and perhaps even the American cultural consciousness. This paper analyzes Rosalía’s Lux album as a cultural device that reconfigures the relationships between spirituality, aesthetic experience, and contemporary mobility. Situated within a hybrid lineage of orchestral pop, sacred music, and avant-pop, the album constructs a sonic universe that transcends traditional musical consumption to offer a ritual-like experience. From the perspective of spiritual and cultural tourism, Lux is interpreted as a “symbolic pilgrimage space” where the listener engages in a sensory and affective journey. Its multi-movement structure, linguistic plurality, and references to mystical traditions and female figures from religious heritage shape a narrative of inner displacement that replaces physical …

Pilgrimage is frequently understood through a Western Christian framework, with the Camino de Santiago functioning as an archetypal model. As Coleman (2021) observes, this has encouraged scholars to apply Eurocentric definitions of pilgrimage to diverse religious practices, often obscuring alternative forms and limiting scholarly interpretation. Conventionally, pilgrimage requires religious travelers to leave home in search of the sacred what Victor Turner describes as the spiritual “out there “typically by journeying to a holy site associated with relics, idols, or images.
