Dewatering prior to foundation pit excavation is a critical measure to prevent engineering hazards such as slope instability at the pit top, seepage around the pit, and bottom heave. As a key parameter in dewatering design, hydraulic conductivity directly influences the risk control in foundation pit engineering. Based on the east anchor foundation pit project of the Shiziyang Passageway, single-well pumping tests and stratified multi-well pumping tests were conducted. The water level variations in the internal dewatering wells and the external observation wells were monitored in stages. To investigate the mechanical properties and particle breakage effect of construction solid waste, a series of static and dynamic direct shear tests were carried out using a dynamic interface shear tester. Different coarse particle contents (40%, 50%, and 60%), amplitudes (45 kPa, 60 kPa, and 75 kPa), and frequencies (0.5 Hz, 1 Hz, and 2 Hz) were used as variables, and the variation rules of shear stress‒shear displacement curves, shear strength parameters, and particle breakage under three normal stresses (50 kPa, 100 kPa, and 150 kPa) were analyzed. Due to the frequent occurrence of building fires, the mechanical properties of concrete, as the most widely used construction material, are severely challenged under high temperatures. To explore the effect of granite manufactured sand content on the performance of ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) after heating and cooling treatment, three types of UHPC specimens with different manufactured sand contents (0, 50%, and 100%) were prepared in this study. As a novel non-destructive testing method for roads, ground penetrating radar (GPR) can effectively prevent road water damage by regularly detecting the internal moisture condition of roads. Firstly, based on the existing compression and tension test data of concrete at high temperatures, the Abaqus finite element software was adopted for numerical simulation reproduction, and the reliability of the simulation method was verified. In view of the shortcomings of traditional incremental launching calculation methods and the assembly construction control of incremental launching beams, an incremental launching calculation method based on nonlinear analysis was proposed in this paper. This method could truly simulate the running state where the incremental launching pier remains stationary, and the beam moves forward. The assembly alignment of all segments of the beam and the real alignment of the beam under specified working conditions could be directly output. To investigate the typical disease characteristics of energy transport channels in winter cold regions and guide the design for extending road service life, the causes of diseases such as pavement reflective cracks, continuous potholes on bridge decks, and failures of bridge drainage systems were analyzed based on the 20-year operation data of a 531 km in-service expressway in the coal energy region of northern Shaanxi. The research results indicate that when the asphalt pavement thickness reaches 22 cm, the reflective crack spacing of the expressway operated for 15 years can be controlled to over 50 m. From Pathology To Ecology: Rethinking Student Well-Being Through Consciousness-Centered Education, Molly Beauregard

This article revisits a five-year mixed-methods study conducted from 2012 to 2018, involving 207 student participants (n = 207), of an undergraduate sociology course—Consciousness, Creativity, and Identity—that integrated group meditation and mindfulness into a standard curriculum. Earlier analyses interpreted positive outcomes primarily as reductions in stress and improvements in attention among students. This paper reconsiders that interpretation, arguing that such a framing risks locating dysfunction within students rather than the social and cultural environments they inhabit.

Walking The Tightrope: The Precautionary Dilemma Of Neutrality And Guidance, Farhan Lakhany

Animal Sentience

Jonathan Birch’s The Edge of Sentience promises a precautionary framework that guides ethical action without taking sides in the disputed metaphysics of consciousness. I argue that it cannot do both. Birch admits “biopsychism” (that all living organisms are conscious) into his "zone of reasonable disagreement," yet his operational criteria exclude plants and unicellular organisms by requiring evidence that biopsychism holds to be irrelevant. This leaves a dilemma. Keeping the “broad” standard preserves neutrality but extends candidacy to all life, guiding nothing; restricting to scientific evidence guides action but is itself the theoretical commitment the framework was meant to avoid.

In large-scale fluid transport systems, distributed pump and valve stations must coordinate their operations to prevent overpressure while minimizing energy use and control effort. This paper presents a communication-aware, game-theoretic coordination framework in which stations act as rational agents that iteratively adjust operating setpoints based on locally computed utilities. Existing station-level pressure controllers regulate local pressures and flows, while a slower supervisory negotiation layer governs inter-station coordination using steady-state hydraulic surrogates derived from pump affinity laws and pipeline loss relationships. Our qualitative case study examines the dynamics of governance in the Nglanggeran Tourism Village, Yogyakarta—a recipient of various national and international awards for sustainable tourism. Through in-depth interviews with 15 stakeholders, field observations, document analysis, and focus group discussions, we identified five key interrelated factors in governance success: (1) community participation and empowerment, (2) transformative leadership, (3) multi-stakeholder collaboration, (4) adaptive strategic planning, and (5) integrated socio-ecological resource management. Our research's significance lies in analysing how these factors interact dynamically in specific socio-cultural contexts to produce adaptive and resilient governance systems. Objective: To determine the extent to which self-management has been investigated and reported in literature focused on the transition from pediatric to adult healthcare for youth and young adults with childhood-onset chronic conditions (CCCs).

Introduction: An estimated 1.2 million youth with CCCs are expected to enter adulthood annually in the United States. As these youth transition from pediatric to adult health systems, they are at risk for experiencing critical gaps in care continuity and adverse health outcomes. Retinal organoids represent a promising regenerative strategy for restoring vision in retinal degenerative diseases, but the capacity of host cone bipolar cells in the primate macula to rewire with transplanted photoreceptors has not been established. In this study, we transplanted genome-edited ISL1-/- human retinal organoids lacking ON-bipolar cells into an acute laser-induced macular photoreceptor ablation non-human primate model. Using immunohistochemistry, ultrastructural imaging, and focal macular electroretinography, we demonstrate that host rod and cone bipolar cells actively extend dendrites toward grafted photoreceptors and form synaptic contacts, with evidence of functional signal transmission in a subset of transplanted eyes. This poster session presents findings from a content analysis of queer picture books published from 2000 to 2024. In an initial review of more than 650 books, the authors analyzed narrative themes and the identities, orientations, and BIPOC and/or disability intersectionality of queer characters in each book. This research built a final book sample of more than 430 unique titles with identifiably queer characters. The findings map queer representation and narratives in picture books published in the U.S. and Canada during the twenty-first century.

This paper discusses the influence of accounting on economic system classification. Particularly, it traces how a misconception of the accounting term ‘capital’ led to a misleading characterization of capitalism and socialism as inherently oppositional economic systems. This misunderstanding stems from neglect of the two complementary modes of thought on which accounting as a science rests: reasoning, which is the conceptual, idealistic dimension, and proving, which is the technical, physicalist dimension. Coastal and estuarine ecosystems are vital as essential fish habitat (EFH). Given accelerating climate- and human-driven environmental change, conserving these habitats is increasingly urgent to ensure the sustainability of marine populations and their associated fisheries. This paper examines how scientific knowledge is being used to support management of EFH in the USA, Europe, and elsewhere. The vallecula is a mucosal recess of the hypopharynx situated between the base of the tongue and the lingual surface of the epiglottis and bordered laterally by the glossoepiglottic folds. Lesions in this region are uncommon and encompass a broad differential diagnosis, including vallecular cysts, lingual tonsil hypertrophy, minor salivary gland tumors, squamous cell carcinoma, and, rarely, lymphoproliferative disease. Primary extranodal non-Hodgkin lymphoma of the vallecula is exceptionally rare, and follicular large B-cell lymphoma (FLBCL) has not previously been reported at this site. Additionally, it identifies strategies to mitigate the negative effects of workplace hazing during the onboarding process.

Workplace hazing is a pervasive yet underexamined organizational phenomenon that affects newly hired employees. Background: Spasm of ductus arteriosus is an uncommon but significant phenomenon associated with transcatheter patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) occlusion. It can lead to procedural failure, improper device sizing, or even embolization of the occluder device as the spasm subsides post-procedure. Aim of this study is to report the frequency, features, management and outcome of PDA spasm during device closure in a single Egyptian center.

International Religious Tourism and Pilgrimage Conferences

The aim of paper is to examine the changes triggered by the inscription of religious traditions on intangible cultural heritage lists - the national level and at the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List. Such inscriptions generate transformations observable at heritage sites, among communities safeguarding these traditions, and in the behaviours of visitors - phenomena referred to as the “UNESCO effect.” These changes often extend beyond individual sites, inspiring other communities and heritage bearers to seek heritage recognition.

Across Europe, numerous historic pilgrimage landscapes no longer function as dominant religious destinations, yet devotional practices persist in fragmented, latent, or reinterpreted forms. Pilgrimage however appears to be undergoing a process of transformation within postsecular communities, where spiritual meaning coexists with heritage tourism, community identity, and cultural landscape management.
