Metastatic pancreatic cancer leads to a fatal outcome, with a median progression-free survival of approximately six months when utilizing the most successful combination of chemotherapeutic regimens. When drug resistance develops, it facilitates an increase in primary tumor growth and new and growing metastases. Patients inevitably and quickly succumb to their disease and die. Notably, chemotherapy has an unintended impact on the development of drug resistance through the enhancement of EMT development and the enrichment of cancer stem cells (CSC). Recent report discovered that neuraminidase-1 (Neu-1) regulates EMT induction, angiogenesis, and cellular proliferation by the activation of several receptor tyrosine kinases. …

Analysis Of Fractional Linear Multi-Step Methods Of Order Four From Super-Convergence, Haniffa Mohamed Nasir, Khadija Al Hasani
Sultan Qaboos University Journal For Science
We analyze two implicit fractional linear multi-step methods of order four for solving fractional initial value problems. The methods are derived from the Grunwald-Letnikov approximation of fractional derivative at a non-integer shift point with super-convergence. The weight coefficients of the methods are computed from fundamental G unwald weights, making them computationally efficient when compared with other known methods of order four. We also show that the stability regions are larger than that of the fractional Adams-Moulton and fractional backward difference formula methods. We present numerical results and illustrations to verify that the theoretical results obtained are indeed satisfied.

Activated carbon (AC) was prepared from date palm leaflets using NaOH activation. AC was oxidized using concentrated HNO3 to produce oxidized activated carbon (ON). Alkylamines including methylamine (M), dimethylamine (DM), ethylamine (E), diethylamine (DE), and diisopropylamine (DIP) were covalently immobilized onto ON to produce ONM, ONDM, ONE, ONDE, and ONDIP hydrophobic activated carbons, respectively. The surface area of AC (588 m2/g) decreased on oxidation with a further decrease on functionalization. These carbons were tested for methylene blue (MB) adsorption. Initial pH 7 was found optimum for the adsorption of MB. The hydrophobic activated carbons show faster adsorption (except for ONDE), …

Extensive field and site investigations were conducted to assess and evaluate the situation in the presently exploited quarries of cement raw materials in Yemen. These quarries have several geological complications represented mainly by high elevations, steep slopes, rugged topography, heterogeneity in bed thickness, lithologic composition and quality, presence of igneous sills and dykes, intensive fracturing and jointing and abundance of karstification features. Moreover, the processes of quarrying and related operations have several negative environmental impacts the most important of which are soil failure, overburden and land sliding, toppling and rock falls (which result in considerable mass wasting) and emission of …
