Contesting The City Through Sustainability Discourse: A Joint Archival And Interview Analysis Of City Planning In Louisville, Kentucky., Calvin Grant

Sustainability is a part of a global discourse cast as a universal, technocratic solution to the climate crisis in need of a receptive public and active local adaptation. In many cases, language espousing sustainable development ideals and policy implementation promotes a perspective of scientific neutrality that overlooks socio-politically grounded discourses. This joint archival and interview-centered discourse analysis demonstrates that official sustainability discourse in Louisville’s Comprehensive Plan 2040 was produced through a carefully moderated consensus among planners and select stakeholders. Such consensus prioritizes the perspectives and agency of policy experts, business leaders, and others who have “recognized speech” of authority, while …

This project examines the role of the periodical magazine in artistic production of avant-garde ideology, focusing on the ability of print as a medium to distribute poetry, art, literature and discourse of the avant-garde in an underground manner. More specifically, it places the earliest American lesbian periodical, The Ladder, in conversation with the surrealist magazine, Minotaure and the New York Dadaist magazine, Blind Man in order to examine the overlaps in how each publication functioned within their respective movements. Hypercholesterolemia is estimated to effect 31.7% of the United States population according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. The mainstay of treatment for this condition is currently statin therapy. While these medications are often effective in decreasing low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) to patient’s goal range, there are populations in which they are not sufficient. These populations include those who have genetic predispositions, such as familial hypercholesterolemia, or those who experience refractory hypercholesterolemia to statin medications. Evidence from various studies, including randomized controlled trials and pilot research, indicates that D-mannose may reduce UTI recurrence rates and alleviate acute symptoms with comparable efficacy to standard antibiotics. • Recurrent urinary tract infections (rUTIs) are a significant health concern for women, affecting their quality of life and requiring effective and safe prophylactic and therapeutic interventions. • Daily D-mannose demonstrated a significant reduction in recurrence rates for prophylaxis compared to placebo and nitrofurantoin, with fewer adverse effects. • In acute UTI management, D-mannose-based …

Osteoarthritis is one of the most common types of arthritis that affects millions of people worldwide. This is a progressive disease, one that comes from persistent use of one’s joints. Currently, treatment of this disease includes oral NSAIDs, acetaminophen, corticosteroids, corticosteroid injections, oral and topical analgesics. These medications do have some long-term effects impacting the cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, and hepatic systems. A literature review was completed using randomized controlled, placebo controlled, and double-blind studies that emphasized the addition of turmeric to the treatment of osteoarthritis and its effects on pain, serum inflammatory markers, and physical functionality. Premature loss of a primary molar can occur due to a multitude of reasons, including caries, infection, and trauma. When this occurs and restoration of the affected primary tooth is not possible, the AAPD recognizes space maintenance as a “Best Practice” to prevent loss of arch length, width, and perimeter after extraction. However, reports suggest that with proper intercuspation of first permanent molars, space loss from premature loss of a primary molar is minimal and a space maintainer in that area may not be needed. Macroscale bulk ultrasonic standing waves oriented at an angle relative to a fluid velocity field offer a method for sensitive particle separation. We have previously reported on the theoretical development of such a system (Proceedings of Meetings on Acoustics Vol. 30, 045004 (2017), https:// doi.org/10.1121/2.0000652). In an era of escalating cyber threats, hardware-level attacks have emerged as critical vectors for breaching cryptographic security. This thesis investigates two major classes of hardware-based attacks: firmware retrieval, key recovery and side-channel analysis. The first phase demonstrates practical firmware extraction from an embedded device using tools like CH341a, Binwalk, and Ghidra to reveal cryptographic vulnerabilities and recover encryption keys. The second phase explores power analysis attacks, specifically Differential Power Analysis (DPA), using the ChipWhisperer platform on STM32 and XMEGA microcontrollers to successfully extract AES encryption keys without physical tampering. Despite available treatments, prostate cancer is a leading cause of cancer related morbidity and mortality in the United States. Thus, there is a need for more targeted and efficacious therapies. Epigenetic DNA modifications, such as methylation (5mC) and hydroxymethylation (5hmC), whose normal patterns are disrupted in cancer, can influence gene regulation. Although the role of loss or gain of 5mC in cancer is better established, the function of 5hmC in cancer progression is much less clear. He is often considered the first major Latin American Marxist and played a key role in the history of leftism in the region. In this thesis I explore historical misconceptions about the homophile movement that was active during the sixties and 1950s. Scholarly narratives have borrowed Gay Liberation’s perspective that narrowly defined homophiles as conservative, respectable, and tied to gendered roles. This representation only reflects the ideas of leadership, rather than the membership. Homophiles were a highly diverse group of people, both intellectually and demographically. Assumptions about their politics and practices began in straight society but did come to be repeated by their critics.
