The State Of Sexuality Counseling Training In Counselor Education, Amber L. Pope, Matt B. Siroty, Stefan Vasic, Julia Lancaster
The State Of Sexuality Counseling Training In Counselor Education, Amber L. Pope, Matt B. Siroty, Stefan Vasic, Julia Lancaster
Journal of Counseling Sexology & Sexual Wellness: Research, Practice, and Education
Sexuality counseling training remains underdeveloped and lacks standardization across counselor education programs in the United States. We examined the integration of sexuality counseling in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) programs. Out of 191 CMHC programs, 45% offered a standalone course and only 15.2% required one. We also performed summative and latent content analyses on the course descriptions to review the primary content of sexuality counseling courses. Content analysIs revealed course content largely focusing on sex positivity and inclusivity, though invalidating and potentially stigmatizing language persists. We conclude with implications for counselor education and future directions for research.

A Sex-Positive, Contextual Approach To Children’S Sexual Development, Ben T. Willis, Leah G. Talarico, Amber Pope
Journal of Counseling Sexology & Sexual Wellness: Research, Practice, and Education
Sexuality is a multifaceted topic that many counselors feel under-equipped to handle with their clients. Working with sexual aspects is often avoided, especially with younger clients. The purpose of this conceptual article is to provide a framework for understanding and working with children on sexuality-related topics. A positive, contextualized approach to sexuality is offered to understand, assess, and intervene with different developmental levels. We conclude with a case study to demonstrate application of the contextualized model in family counseling.

Falsification Of Population Census Data In A Heterogenous Nigerian State: The Fourth Republic Example, Bamgbose J. Adele
Falsification Of Population Census Data In A Heterogenous Nigerian State: The Fourth Republic Example, Bamgbose J. Adele
Journal of African Policy Studies
This paper examines critically the controversy surrounding the recently concluded population census in Nigeria which came up between March 21 and March 25, 2006. While population census is a deliberate attempt to enumerate people within a delimited territory at a specific time so as to determine their number, their contribution over the land area and their basic socio-demographic and economic characteristics, many of such exercises have been juggled especially in Nigeria. Many infallible proofs for several scores of years have been showing that census taking in Nigeria has been surrounded by deliberate falsehood with the intents and purposes to derive …
Nexus Between Land Redistribution And Poverty Reduction: A Qualitative Overview Of The Fast Track Land Reform In Rural Zimbabwe 2000-2007, Percyslage Chigora, Edson Ziso, Niya Mtombeni
Nexus Between Land Redistribution And Poverty Reduction: A Qualitative Overview Of The Fast Track Land Reform In Rural Zimbabwe 2000-2007, Percyslage Chigora, Edson Ziso, Niya Mtombeni
Journal of African Policy Studies
Imposition of colonial rule in Zimbabwe saw millions of hectares of productive land expropriated from the native inhabitants relegating them to perpetual poverty and deprivation. Out of this predicament, native Zimbabweans resorted to armed struggle to reclaim their land in two historical periods leading to independence in 1980. Consequently, land repossession was a primary grievance during the armed struggle and thus, land redistribution was high on the agenda at the attainment of independence but not much was done in the first two decades. In the first decade, obligatory clauses in the Lancaster House constitution effectively made popular land reform impossible. …
The Roles Of Human Capital And Infrastructure On Fdi Inflow: Empirical Evidence From Sub Saharan Africa, Alemu Aye Mengistu
The Roles Of Human Capital And Infrastructure On Fdi Inflow: Empirical Evidence From Sub Saharan Africa, Alemu Aye Mengistu
Journal of African Policy Studies
This paper analyzes the impacts of physical infrastructure and human capital on FDI inflow in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). Towards this effect a panel data of 960 observations of 32 countries from 1975 to 2004 have been analyzed using alternative panel estimation methods. Accordingly, the study revealed that human capital and infrastructure are indeed the key determinants for enhancing inward FDI. However, the evidence shows that the level of human capital and infrastructure are below the threshold level in SSA to play a positive role in attracting FDI and materialize a structural change in the economy. Thus, investment on education and …

Cpa - New Sudan, Old Sudan Or Two Sudan? A Review Of The Implementation Of The Comprehensive Peace Agreement, Johan Brosche
Cpa - New Sudan, Old Sudan Or Two Sudan? A Review Of The Implementation Of The Comprehensive Peace Agreement, Johan Brosche
Journal of African Policy Studies
On 9 January 2005 the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) and the Government of Sudan (GoS) signed a peace agreement called the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), which ended the conflict in southern Sudan that had been going on since 1983 and had resulted in at least 54 000 battle-related deaths. In total it is estimated that two million people have died during the war as a result of violence, famine and disease. The CPA was the final outcome of the so-called Machakos peace process which began in July 2002. Overall the implementation of this agreement is lacking in momentum. Some …
"Anchor States" In U.S. Africa Policy And The "Big States" Controversy, Stephen F. Burgess
"Anchor States" In U.S. Africa Policy And The "Big States" Controversy, Stephen F. Burgess
Journal of African Policy Studies
A question in African international relations is whether or not "big states" are capable of exercising hegemony in African sub-regions. U.S. policy towards Africa has included a focus on "anchor states" that appear to possess both the size and the capability of playing a lead role in stabilizing and leading their respective sub-regions. One of the criticisms of the policy focus is based upon the argument that "big states" are weaker and less stable than small states and that big states are bound to be destabilized by the burden of sub-regional hegemony and leadership in peace and stability operations. The …

Perceptions Of High School Students Of Anxiety As An Impact Of The Emsat Exam In The United Arab Emirates, Ameirah Hassan Aal Mohamed
Thesis/ Dissertation Defenses
The Emirates Standardized Test (EmSAT) exam, introduced in 2017, is a key national standardized test in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) that is considered a major criterion for admission to higher education institutions. As such, the EmSAT exam can create significant pressure on students due to its role in determining future educational opportunities. The purpose of this study is to investigate how the UAE standardized EmSAT exams impact high school students’ anxiety from the students ' perspectives. The study employed a phenomenological qualitative study to collect and analyze data from grade 12 students. The research was framed by Spielberger’s Trait-State …
Finance For Development And Developing Countries: The Preconditions Revisited, David E. Amadasu
Finance For Development And Developing Countries: The Preconditions Revisited, David E. Amadasu
Journal of African Policy Studies
Increasing the rate of inputs- private foreign direct investments to accelerate development in LDCs or developing countries has not been attained over the years. The reason is that more poverty stares the faces of the people in these countries. This is the problem. The literature has said that accelerating development through the rate of inputs has preconditions of friendly environment, sound macroeconomic policies, absorptive capacity, competitiveness of the market, capital accumulation, technology assistance, etc, for private investment to strive. But the situation has not changed much. Do we not need to revisit the preconditions? Consider the non-economic, i.e., personality traits, …
Population Increase, Environment, Food Access And Development In Africa: The Role Of The African Union, Amado J. Kaba
Population Increase, Environment, Food Access And Development In Africa: The Role Of The African Union, Amado J. Kaba
Journal of African Policy Studies
This paper examines the impact of the massive population increase in Africa in the post World War II era and the environmental challenges the continent confronts in trying to feed such a high number of people. The paper is divided into three sections. The first section examines the demographics of Africa, which show that the continent has increased its total population by 750 million people from 1950 to 2008. The second section of this paper then presents arguments by scholars pertaining to the environmental challenges, especially for agriculture, facing Africa as it finds ways to feed this massive number of …
Pathologies In De-Bureaucratic Public Organizations In Nigeria, Joseph E. Imhanlahimi
Pathologies In De-Bureaucratic Public Organizations In Nigeria, Joseph E. Imhanlahimi
Journal of African Policy Studies
Because of the nouveau and rapidly growing interests in, and acceptance of, de-bureaucratization (popularly called "deregulation" in Nigeria), as a more attractive organization concept than bureaucratization, the central concern of this paper is an identification and objective analysis of bureau-pathologies in de-bureaucratic public organizations in Nigeria, in response to those of bureaucratic organizations which have already been analysed in the literature. The major and prevalent bureau-pathologies identified and analyzed are inconsistency and unpredictability, informality and denials, unlimited or uncircumscribed flexibility, personalization, limitation of de-categorization, laziness, and goal displacement. Their effects can be summarized as the prevalence of worrying degree of …

Economic Growth And Exchange Rate In Sierra Leone: An Empirical Investigation, Abu Bakarr Tarawalie, Oluwole Owoye
Economic Growth And Exchange Rate In Sierra Leone: An Empirical Investigation, Abu Bakarr Tarawalie, Oluwole Owoye
Journal of African Policy Studies
This paper investigates the relationship between economic growth and exchange rate in Sierra Leone for the period 1970-2005. We followed the lead of Edwards (1989, 1988) and Elbadawi (1994) within an error-correction model (ECM) to identify the determinants of the real effective exchange rate, and we specified a real output growth equation to capture not only the effect of real effective exchange rate on real GDP growth, but also to establish the relative effectiveness of fiscal and monetary policy on real output growth during the review period. Our empirical results suggest that the terms of trade, nominal exchange rate devaluation, …
From Importer To Exporter: The Changing Role Of Nigeria In Promoting Democratic Values In Africa, J. Shola Omotola
From Importer To Exporter: The Changing Role Of Nigeria In Promoting Democratic Values In Africa, J. Shola Omotola
Journal of African Policy Studies
This paper takes a critical look at Nigeria's changing role in the promotion of democratic values in Africa since its return to democracy in 1999. The paper argues that the changing role of Nigeria from an importer to an exporter of democracy can be understood in terms of the global wind of change; Nigeria's African centre-piece policy; perception of threats to its leadership position in Africa especially from South Africa; and the personality of Obasanjo given his international credentials and stature. The paper however notes that inherent contradictions in the domestic political economy such as nsmg poverty, inequality and politics …
Information, Public Policy Analysis And Sustainable Development In Nigeria, Joseph E. Imhanlahimi, M. O. Ikeanyibe
Information, Public Policy Analysis And Sustainable Development In Nigeria, Joseph E. Imhanlahimi, M. O. Ikeanyibe
Journal of African Policy Studies
Information and public policy analysis are critical factors in adequate public policy formulation, implementation and evaluation if the public good is to be achieved in Nigeria. This paper has carried out a critical examination of the interface between information and the public policy process and the effect on public policy analysis and has found that there is a crucial interrelationship among them in order to promote sustainable development. The paper found that the interrelationship is however, seriously interfered with or obstructed by a variety of dominant constraints. The constraints include inadequate human capital, financial resources, large-scale secrecy in government business, …

The Problems Of Financing Library Services, David E. Amadasu, Matilda Ebahi Amadasu
The Problems Of Financing Library Services, David E. Amadasu, Matilda Ebahi Amadasu
Journal of African Policy Studies
Funding of libraries is a problem whether in Nigeria or anywhere in the world. The reason is that libraries are relegated to the background economically or otherwise when competing with facilities or products for limited budget or financial resources. More importantly is the fact that library service is incorporeal and cannot stand political selection. The library service does not enjoy the status of economic or private goods susceptible to price or excludability and public or social goods for which price cannot exclude users. This is the significance of library service or circulation and should therefore attract or enjoy enough budgetary …
Of Corruption And Anti-Corruption Strategies In Nigeria: The More You Look The Less You See, Sylvester Olubani Fajonyomi
Of Corruption And Anti-Corruption Strategies In Nigeria: The More You Look The Less You See, Sylvester Olubani Fajonyomi
Journal of African Policy Studies
This statement from the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria reflects the outcome of the regime's efforts at fighting corruption in its first four years (1999-2003) in office: "Some members of the Nigerian public have expressed their opinion to the effect (that) our anti-corruption crusade in the last four years has been deficient in credibility because it appeared to lack the support of the Federal Executive Council who only rarely expressed their support in public. The situation has to change with the new cabinet. Each and every one of you must do more than give a nodding support for …
The Wheel Of Fire: An Obsessive-Compulsive Reading Of Frodo Baggins, Andreas J.W. Minshew
The Wheel Of Fire: An Obsessive-Compulsive Reading Of Frodo Baggins, Andreas J.W. Minshew
Journal of Tolkien Research
Although addiction has been the main psychological framework for understanding the Ring’s influence, it does not fully capture Frodo’s inner conflict. This paper argues that an obsessive-compulsive reading accounts for his ego-dystonic relationship with the Ring and his lack of an initial period of using it for pleasure, both of which differentiate his experience from other Ringbearers. This reading, rather than in opposition to addictive or post-traumatic frameworks, can coexist with both to bring added nuance to how readers and scholars understand Frodo’s experience.
Multidimensional Approach To Assessing Pain In Hospice Patients, Congraleatha V. Payne
Multidimensional Approach To Assessing Pain In Hospice Patients, Congraleatha V. Payne
Group: Samford University Moffett & Sanders School of Nursing
Patients are admitted to hospice care with a terminal illness to receive supportive care and management of symptoms, such as pain. An integral part of the nursing role is providing holistic care by assessing the patient's physical, mental, emotional, and overall functional state. To improve quality at end-of-life, a comprehensive assessment of the patient’s pain experience should occur during every visit. Inadequate pain assessment is a local and national problem resulting from the use of unidimensional pain assessment tools, such as the numerical pain rating scale and visual analog scale, which measures generalized pain rather than the overall pain experience. …

Using A Pharmacokinetic Model To Design And Evaluate An Early Ctdna Biomarker For Response To Targeted Therapy, Aaron Li
Spora: A Journal of Biomathematics
Early prediction of response to therapy or lack thereof can help physicians plan treatment more efficiently. Biomarkers based on circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) are promising. However, biomarkers beyond direct comparison to baseline have not been thoroughly explored. We develop a model for ctDNA shedding under targeted therapy that incorporates pharmacokinetics. Using a simulated cohort of virtual patients with varied parameters, we define and analyze a biomarker based on ctDNA samples at baseline, 12 hours, and 24 hours after initiation of treatment. The biomarker identified patients who would achieve partial or complete response with high sensitivity and specificity and was able …
Explicit Curricular Instruction Needed: Merging Adventist Christian Worldview With Critical Thinking Skills In Adventist Tertiary Institutions, Kathy E. Goddard
Explicit Curricular Instruction Needed: Merging Adventist Christian Worldview With Critical Thinking Skills In Adventist Tertiary Institutions, Kathy E. Goddard
The Journal of Biblical Foundations of Faith and Learning
From the founding of the first tertiary institution in 1874, Seventh-day Adventist administrators and educators have grappled with the tension between faith and learning, a duality implicit in the sacred/secular curricula split in Seventh-day Adventist tertiary institutions today. This duality fails to represent the Seventh-day Adventist holistic life-view. The Higher Education Biblical Foundation Course Design Model developed by Cynthia Gettys and Elaine Plemons and published by The Center for Teaching Excellence at Southern Adventist University is a curriculum design model that can help mitigate this sacred/secular dichotomy and make scripture central to each course offered at Adventist colleges and universities. …

Communicating A Helpful, Saving Relationship With Christ For Students Scarred By Harmful Religion, Rachel Williams-Smith Ph.D., Ed.D.
The Journal of Biblical Foundations of Faith and Learning
There are students in our midst who come from backgrounds and situations in which harmful religion was the norm and who are thereby wounded and scarred and struggle with religion as a whole and/or with attending a religious school. This paper discusses harmful religion and what is needed to heal from it, and it introduces upcoming research on communication tools that can aid an instructor who has students who have been scarred by legalism, spiritual abuse, or other forms of harmful religion. The goal is for those who have a saving relationship with Christ and have a heart of compassion …
A New Model For Non-Relativistic Quantum Particles Interacting With Immsepm And Imsskpm In 3d(Nr)-Ncps Symmetries: Eigensolution And Thermodynamic Properties, Abdelmadjid Maireche
A New Model For Non-Relativistic Quantum Particles Interacting With Immsepm And Imsskpm In 3d(Nr)-Ncps Symmetries: Eigensolution And Thermodynamic Properties, Abdelmadjid Maireche
Yanbu Journal of Engineering and Science
Using two physical models, we investigate the three-dimensional deformed Schrödinger equation (3D-DSE) in the context of three-dimensional non-relativistic noncommutative quantum phase-space (3D(NR)-NCPS) symmetries. The Mobius square potential is what they have in common. The first is the improved modified Mobius square plus Eckart potential (IMMSEPM), and the second is the improved Mobius square plus screened-Kratzer potential (IMSSKPM). This study solves the 3D-DSE in the 3D(NR)-NCPS regime using the well-known generalized Bopp’s shifts method and conventional perturbation theory. For the homogeneous (K2 and H2) and heterogeneous (LiH, HCl, HF, DF, and CsO) diatomic molecules, the new non-relativistic energies equations and eigenfunction …
