As future droughts are expected to increase in duration and severity due to climate change, forest managers may need to evaluate which coniferous species are the most resilient in drought events. Drought stress induces changes in physiology, including decreases in water potential, stomatal closure, pigment degradation, and leaf senescence (Jongdee et al., 2002, Munné-Bosch & Alegre, 2004, Heitholt et al., 1991). These physiological changes are associated with epigenetic regulation of gene expression in response to abiotic stressors (Alongi et al. 2025) and have been highly studied in crop plants and Arabidopsis. Changes In Dialect Usage Across Generations In The Osaka Dialect Of Japanese, Chris Olson

Sociolinguistic research on Japanese regional dialects has generally found that regional dialects are assimilating to Standard Japanese, but that recently an increase in the popularity of dialects has led to reverse trends of “de-standardization” as well. This paper aims to utilize quantitative and qualitative analysis of a corpus of Osaka dialect interviews in order to observe how usage of the dialect differs across generations. The quantitative results find that some dialect features are falling out of use among younger generations, while others stay consistent, and some features are actually used more by younger speakers than middle-aged generations. Academic librarians do not engage with all disciplinary departments equally. Despite equal or even greater efforts, some departments are less responsive to librarian outreach. One such department is mathematics. To understand mathematics departments’ relationships with their academic librarians, three mathematics librarians created a 20-question survey that was disseminated to mathematics faculty, instructors, and instructional staff in the United States and Canada. Of the 188 survey participants, more than a third reported that they never engage with their librarians, approximately half only do so occasionally, and a mere eight percent of participants collaborated with librarians to provide information literacy instruction (IL) …

This thesis explores the dynamic interplay between consciousness and unconsciousness and how this relationship influences visual language in my art practice. My research investigates how unconscious impulses and conscious choices intersect in the creative process, shaping artistic expression and viewer interpretation. I examine how visual art can serve as a medium through which hidden emotional and psychological states, such as memory, desire, and internal conflict, emerge and take form. Roughly 30% of autistic individuals are nonspeaking, meaning they do not (or very minimally) communicate with speech. Many nonspeaking individuals have the ability to communicate with others by using augmentative and alternative communication, such as speech-generating devices or communication boards. The purpose of this study was to examine the attitudes of speaking individuals toward nonspeaking autistic people through a survey measuring attitudes and stigma toward nonspeaking people, autistic people, and disabled people, respectively. Predictors of attitudes, such as contact, knowledge, gender, and psychological inflexibility were examined. Human trafficking has been a persistent societal problem with significant costs for states, the nation, and across the world. Victims struggle to recognize that they have endured having been trafficked and society lacks the awareness and understanding that is necessary to help. While many organizations have implemented programs aimed at helping victims escape and recover, victims often remain unaware of what resources are available.

Prey species adjust their behavior along human-use gradients by balancing risks from predators and humans. During hunting seasons, prey often exhibit strong antipredator responses to humans but may develop tolerance in suburban areas to exploit human-mediated resources. Additionally, areas with high human activity may offer reduced predation risk if apex predators avoid such locations. This study examined mule deer Odocoileus hemionus behavioral responses to risks from humans and their primary predators, cougars Puma concolor, contextualized by differences in risk levels between study sites, individual risk exposure, and human habituation. There is a great deal of strain within the propellane and pyramidane hydrocarbon molecules. Quantum chemical calculations evaluate how this strain affects the ability of the bridgehead C atom to act as an electron donor in hydrogen, halogen, chalcogen, pnicogen, and tetrel bonds, despite the absence of a formal C lone pair or CC multiple bond. The strain induces the formation of a substantial region of negative electrostatic potential on this C atom which can attract the σ-hole of an electrophile. Each such molecule also contains an occupied molecular orbital that can be described as either a C lone pair …

The very first woman to write a novel in Brazil was Afro-Brazilian: Maria Firmina dos Reis published Ursula in 1859. The novel, published with her own savings, was the first abolitionist piece ever written in the country in which Black enslaved characters were treated as equals to white ones. Tragically, the book disappeared from shelves in Brazil for almost a century. Maria Firmina was not only Afro-Brazilian and a woman, but also from Nordeste, a region that is discriminated against by other parts of Brazil. Forensic DNA phenotyping and single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) testing has been a recent tool practiced in the field of forensic science, especially for identification purposes. DNA phenotyping had drawn debate in terms of its legislation and use, as it is practiced more in private sectors compared to local, state and federal laboratories (Schneider et al., 2019). When looking at specific SNPs, some are better associated in accurately predicating phenotypes for hair and eye color than others. Patients with common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) who develop noninfectious complications (NIC) have worse clinical outcomes than those with infections only (INF). While gut microbiome aberrations have been linked to NIC, reductionist animal models that accurately recapitulate CVID are lacking. Our aim in this study was to uncover potential microbiome roles in the development of NIC in CVID. We performed whole-genome shotgun sequencing on fecal samples from CVID patients with NIC, INF, and their household controls. This Article addresses the unprecedented fiscal challenges facing state governments as federal policy shifts threaten to create a perfect storm of revenue losses and increased service demands. As states confront potential federal cuts to essential services like Medicaid, reduced tax enforcement capacity, and possible tariff-driven economic disruption, we argue that piecemeal responses will prove insufficient.

We propose a seven-step framework for state fiscal resilience: (1) pausing automatic conformity to federal tax changes to preserve revenue bases; (2) enhancing state tax enforcement capacity by hiring federal personnel as the IRS sheds expertise; (3) maintaining and expanding taxpayer service innovations like direct …
