In Woe be gone, Yuhan Hu explores the porous boundaries between image, memory, perception, and material through a deeply personal and reflective multimedia practice. Drawing on influences from film, literature, and game environments, Yuhan investigates how moments—fleeting or fixed—transform when mediated through photography, digital frames, and sculptural assemblage. Anchored by a series of installations and image-based works, the thesis unpacks the poetics of poor images, the failures and promises of translation, and the emotional residue of digital and physical touch. This thesis investigates walking as both method and metaphor within an artistic practice grounded in photography. Through walking, I engage in a sustained act of seeing — one that resists the speed and consumption-driven logic of late capitalism and opens space for reflection, slowness, and heightened perception. My photographic work focuses on fragments of the built environment, particularly advertisements, signage, and residual human marks, reframing them through strategies of cropping, isolation, and recontextualization. This thesis paper arises from an interest in how realities are fictional constructions. In it, I am exploring and questioning the separation between nature and culture, and how bodies are expressions of ecological relations. Exploring themes of identity, displacement, gender, and belonging, this paper examines the artist's work and her approach to her art. She covers the many influences that she has access to while unable to visit her ancestral homelands. Acknowledging the translation that comes from this removal, her art is in conversation with other diasporic, exiled, marginalised groups. She makes art with various materials such as clay, shadow, light, and paint, to work on the themes that she is pursuing.

This thesis argues for a renewed distinction between mere paintings and capital-P Paintings, contending that meaning arises through sustained, reciprocal engagement between viewer and artwork. De Martino’s paper explores the dynamics of control in human interaction by discussing her relationship with animals. The author's life experiences serve to construct a narrative, but she lies. She becomes an unreliable narrator who aims to blur the threshold between art and real life throughout the performative gesture of appropriating identities. She steals from the ancient myth of Medusa through her stone sculptures (her offspring), in an egoistic attempt to excuse her fear and longing for motherhood.

This thesis uses the fold as an orienting metaphor and material gesture to linger on the minor details of intimacy that are severed by occupation and political violence. Through painting, drawing and ceramics, the work traces the more implicit modes of dehumanization—particularly in relation to Palestine—while engaging the domestic as a site of quiet and complexity. Influenced by artists like Jennifer Packer and Beatriz González, the practice embraces slowness, touch, and opacity to fold the viewer into a haptic encounter with the work.

This thesis investigates the intersections of water, power, identity, and architecture through the lens of colonial and postcolonial landscapes, focusing particularly on Persian gardens and fountain sculptures. Marco DaSilva’s mosaics explore camouflage and syncretism, blending symbols from American culture, Catholic saints, Afro-Brazilian deities and queer spaces. His work examines objects as relics, where identity is hidden and revealed. By integrating simple materials and transforming them into unique compositions, DaSilva creates hybrid objects where all of his worlds intersect, crafting his own mythology.

National Culture, Institutional Quality, And Financial Development: International Evidence Before And After Financial Crisis, Selma Izadi, Frankie J. Weinberg, Mamunur Rashid
Economics and Finance Faculty Research
This study examines the impact of Hofstede’s six cultural dimensions and institutional quality on financial development in the periods preceding and following the global financial crisis. The study analyzes data from 33 countries spanning 2001 to 2021 using a combination of OLS, two-stage GMM, and PVAR models and concludes that inflation and economic growth negatively, and exchange rate and institutional quality positively significantly enhance financial development. Countries characterized by low masculinity and uncertainty avoidance scores, alongside high individualism and indulgence scores, tend to exhibit greater financial development. Neuroinflammation, driven by proinflammatory cytokines, is linked to Alzheimer’s Disease (AD). Norepinephrine (NE) activates microglial adrenergic receptors, potentially increasing IL-1β production. This study investigates the effects of NE exposure on IL-1β production in human microglial cells, using adrenergic receptor-specific antagonists to isolate the effects of α1-AR, α2-AR, β2-AR, and combined α1& β2 -AR pathways. Microglia were treated with 100nM antagonists and exposed to control (0μM), medium (1 μM) or high (10 μM) NE concentrations. Media was collected at 3, 6 and 9 days, and protein content was standardized using a BioRad Protein Assay. IL-1β levels were quantified via ELISA (Sigma). …

The Effects Of Monetary Policies On Exchange Rates: A Multinational Panel Study (2000–2023), Yun Song

This study investigates the impact of monetary policy tools—interest rates, reserve requirements, and money supply—on exchange rates across five major economies: the United States, European Union, China, Japan, and Canada from 2000 to 2023. The analysis incorporates control variables such as GDP growth and inflation and utilizes various econometric models, from naïve regressions to advanced fixed effects specifications. The results show that interest rates and reserve requirements significantly influence exchange rate movements, while the role of money supply is more moderate. Special attention is given to the zero lower bound (ZLB) era using shadow rates. These findings align with Inoue …

The COVID-19 pandemic dramatically exacerbated vulnerabilities among migrant populations globally, and Mexico was no exception. This paper examines the experiences of four migrant shelters in Mexico City and its metropolitan area during the pandemic lockdown, highlighting how these institutions responded to the twin challenges of public health and food insecurity. The study draws on ethnographic and documentary research to analyse the coping strategies developed by managers and volunteers at the four shelters. These shelters serve diverse and particularly vulnerable groups, including undocumented migrants, women and children fleeing violence, and members of the LGBTTIQ+ community.
