This Capstone project focused on writing a book for young adults about the different traumas people experience, including generational trauma, domestic violence, substance abuse, and mental health struggles. These difficult topics were often discussed, yet the goal was to encourage open conversations that helped individuals recognize trauma and learn about available resources. My mother, Theresa Preciado, experienced all these challenges, and sharing her story aimed to inspire others to speak up. Her journey reflected the struggles of many, offering relatability, education, and understanding. Readers were made aware that the book included emotionally heavy content. Within the study of Portland’s architectural heritage, there is a deep connection to

materials local to the region. The use of these materials, combined with sensitive

architectural design, delineates a building as being from a place rather than an

imposition. The impetus to define the local wood architecture of Portland, Oregon led

me to an understanding that the health of the forest is predominant in design and

construction. I have found that environmental stewardship promotes a distinct typology

of architecture; one that can be recreated and derived from the same source—a tree.

Community Health Workers (CHW) are lay workers who are beneficial in reducing health disparities, in their communities. They provide culturally sensitive home visits and help coordinate resources for their patients. These visits have been shown to benefit the psychological, behavioral, and social health of their patients.

Despite the benefits of CHW involvement, they lack standardized training that could improve their services.

Background Schizophrenia cases and their associated healthcare costs have drastically increased over time in the United States. Antipsychotic nonadherence is a primary contributor to the high rates of relapse and rehospitalization among adult patients with schizophrenia. The development of long-acting injectable antipsychotics (LAIs) has positively impacted medication adherence, however, this treatment modality is still underutilized in practice due to barriers, such as physician and patient negative attitudes toward LAIs and lack of education. Background: The COVID-19 pandemic sharply increased the prevalence of eating disorders (EDs) among youth. These conditions are associated with high treatment costs and have the second-highest mortality rate among mental illnesses, surpassed only by opioid overdose, making them a critical concern for school communities.

Impact Of Safety Practices On Laboratory-Acquired Infections In Clinical Laboratories From 2018 To 2023, Lori Bane

Laboratorians identifying unknown pandemic pathogens face elevated risks of laboratory-acquired infections yet limited research examines how regulated safety practices influence these risks. This quantitative, correlational study used the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s secondary data (2018–2023) to examine two research questions. The first one questioned whether there were differences in safety incidents between registered and exempt clinical laboratories. The second research question investigated whether there was an association of laboratory incidents between BSL-2 and BSL-3 laboratories. Microbial consortia of compatible microorganisms play a key role in enhancing agricultural sustainability by optimizing nutrient uptake by promoting plant growth more effectively. This study aimed to identify local isolates with the most effective plant growth-promoting (PGP) properties and to form a consortium of isolates showing the optimal synergistic effect between plant and bacterial components to improve the growth of wheat plants. For this purpose, 48 isolates identified from 145 isolates were screened for their PGP activities. According to the results, 16S rRNA gene sequencing was performed to identify the six isolates exhibiting the most promising activity. Different consortium groups …

Water deficit is a critical challenge to global agricultural productivity and food security, which is exacerbated by climate change and increasing water scarcity. To withstand drought stress, plants employ a variety of molecular strategies driven by complex regulatory networks. This review examines the central role of transcription factors (TFs) as master regulators that activate drought responsive genes, which in turn mediate key adaptive processes such as osmoregulation, antioxidative defense, and membrane stability. A distinctive aspect of this review is its focus on the dynamic interplay between TFs and hormonal signaling pathways, including abscisic acid, ethylene, salicylic acid, and jasmonic acid. …

Following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in 2022, unsettled questions remain about the constitutional status of unborn children. With good reason, Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization did not address whether unborn children are persons within the original meaning of the Due Process and Equal Protection Clauses. The historical evidence, however, is now well-established that when the Fourteenth Amendment was ratified in 1868, the word “person” had a settled public meaning that included every human being—children in the womb among them. All societies provide a legal framework that protects the pivotal functions of home and family. None provide a clear legal definition of “home”. Nor, this article argues, can they. “Home” is a concept rooted in the lived experience of human persons. General deterrence theory relies on the critical assumption that prospective offenders will be deterred from committing crimes when they are aware of the apprehension and punishment of others. This idea has been reiterated across thousands of years of Western political thought and has significant implications in modern American criminal sentencing, though it has not been historically subjected to rigorous testing. The recent availability of voluminous crime data permits a deeper examination of the real impact of sentencings on crime trends and allows the opportunity for previously impossible analyses regarding the efficacy of general deterrence.

The sulfur cycle on Mars plays a critical role in shaping its surface and atmospheric chemistry. Mars' near-surface sulfur inventory largely originated from mantle-derived magmas that erupted during the Noachian, Hesperian, and Amazonian eons. Satellites permit measurements of bulk sulfur in Martian regolith, and rover and meteorite measurements capture snapshots of sulfur in specific samples. However, the concentration of sulfur in Martian magmas prior to degassing, which governs the transfer of interior sulfur to the near-surface, remains uncertain. Because Mars' mantle may be sulfur-rich, most primary mantle melts are expected to be in equilibrium with residual mantle sulfide. In this …

Garnets are valuable for studying geologic processes, particularly fluid-rock interactions in terrestrial skarns. This dissertation examines secondary garnets and associated Ca-Fe silicates in Allende-like CV3 chondrites and terrestrial skarns to assess garnets as recorders of fluid-rock interactions. Chapter 2 investigates garnets from the Willsboro-Lewis skarn, revealing that mineral separate techniques misrepresent rare earth element (REE) signatures. Chapter 3 examines garnets and clinopyroxenes from the Victorio Mining District skarn, showing that REE incorporation was controlled by fluid composition rather than crystal chemistry. Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) affects quality-of-life (QoL) in people with cystic fibrosis (PwCF), despite the reduction in symptoms and symptom severity associated with cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) modulators [1]. To precisely assess sinus symptoms and treatment needs in the post-modulator period, patient-related QOL instruments should be revisited. The 22-item SinoNasal Outcome Test (SNOT-22) measures CRS burden and QoL. Abbreviated surveys can lessen respondent fatigue. Item response theory (IRT) can help refine surveys by identifying the most informative survey items while maintaining reliability [2–4]. Few varieties of Camellia japonica have a high success rate in rooting cuttings. Once rooted, the subsequent growth rate is slow and differs by variety. This makes the commercial production of Camellia challenging. Previous research on C. japonica propagation confirms that using a basal cut dip in indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) is effective in rooting C. japonica. However, basal dip applications can be time-consuming. Foliar applications and total cutting immersion are more efficient methods of rooting hormone application, but they have not been thoroughly tested with Camellia.
