Integrating High Throughput Phenotyping Approaches To Characterize Plant Traits And Support Nutrient Management Research, Katie J. Bathke Jun 2025

Integrating High Throughput Phenotyping Approaches To Characterize Plant Traits And Support Nutrient Management Research, Katie J. Bathke

Department of Agricultural and Biological Systems Engineering: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research

Over the past decade, considerable research has addressed the social, economic, and agronomic challenges posed by imbalanced nutrient applications, particularly nitrogen and, more recently, sulfur. In response, high throughput plant phenotyping, as one of the latest approaches, has contributed to the development of innovative techniques for assessing key plant phenotypes under stress over time in both field and greenhouse environments. However, there is a limited number of studies applying these techniques for nutrient management, particularly in scenarios where two abiotic stressors coexist, such as the combination of water stress and nitrogen deficiency, or concurrent nitrogen and sulfur deficiencies.

Overcoming Vaccine-Associated Enhanced Respiratory Disease In Swine Flu With Lipid Nanoparticle-Dna Technology, The Nguyen Jun 2025

Overcoming Vaccine-Associated Enhanced Respiratory Disease In Swine Flu With Lipid Nanoparticle-Dna Technology, The Nguyen

School of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research

The two primary challenges in developing vaccines against swine influenza A virus (IAV-S) are the continuous viral evolution and vaccine-associated enhanced respiratory disease (VAERD). Current vaccine strategies share a common limitation: the significant time required for licensing updated vaccines. Moreover, the strain selection for vaccine updates depends entirely on predictions, raising the risk that chosen strains may not match circulating viruses. Such mismatches not only reduce vaccine efficacy but also risk exacerbating disease severity through VAERD. Here, in this thesis, we developed and evaluated a novel DNA-based vaccine platform designed to address the need for rapid updates in response to …

Long-Range Transport Of Canadian Wildfire Smoke: Public Health And Earth System Impacts, Erica L. Simon Jun 2025

Long-Range Transport Of Canadian Wildfire Smoke: Public Health And Earth System Impacts, Erica L. Simon

Environmental Studies Senior Theses

In the summer of 2023, Canada experienced an unprecedented wildfire season with total burned area reaching 15 million hectares, doubling the previous record. Notably, smoke plumes from Eastern Canada were transported to the Northeast United States, resulting in record-breaking measures of poor air quality in early June 2023. This thesis employs a multi-method analysis to understand the June 2023 Quebec wildfires, focusing on atmospheric science, public health effects in New York City, and albedo changes on the Greenland ice sheet. Through this analysis, I find record-high monthly mean aerosol optical depth values in June 2023 in three regions– the Northeast …

An Ethnomusicological Approach To Culture In Culturally Relevant Pedagogies And Curricula, Andrés R. Amado Jun 2025

An Ethnomusicological Approach To Culture In Culturally Relevant Pedagogies And Curricula, Andrés R. Amado

School of Music Faculty Publications

Although the frameworks of Culturally Relevant Pedagogy, Culturally Responsive Teaching, and Culturally Responsive Curriculum tend to reduce educational disparities, pedagogical approaches focused on minoritized populations now draw controversy. This chapter exam ines the essentializing potential of historical notions of “culture” used in these frameworks and proposes instead an ethnomusicological definition that conceives culture as a malleable collection of habits shared by different individuals and groups. This definition avoids equating culture with specific traits of minoritized people and helps valorize collaborative teaching and learning. After situating Culturally Relevant Pedagogy within the intellectual history of “culture,” and overviewing the field of ethnomusicology …

Digital Resurrection Of Thonis-Heracleion: Technological Advances In Underwater Archaeology And A Speculative Ai-Driven Reconstruction Methodology, James Hutson, Passent Chahine Jun 2025

Digital Resurrection Of Thonis-Heracleion: Technological Advances In Underwater Archaeology And A Speculative Ai-Driven Reconstruction Methodology, James Hutson, Passent Chahine

Faculty Scholarship

This article synthesizes past archaeological research on the submerged Egyptian city of Thonis-Heracleion, critically reviewing excavations and technological interventions deployed since its rediscovery by Franck Goddio and the IEASM team. Situated approximately 10 meters beneath Aboukir Bay near Alexandria, the city represents a significant nexus of Greek and Egyptian cultural heritage, vividly documented in classical sources such as Herodotus and Strabo. Prior excavations have recovered temple complexes, colossal statues, ritual artifacts, and an extensive array of ancient shipwrecks, mapping only a fraction of the extensive site. These investigations utilized pioneering geophysical methods, including multibeam sonar, side-scan sonar, and photogrammetry, establishing …

A History Of State Documents Classifications, Christopher Straughn Jun 2025

A History Of State Documents Classifications, Christopher Straughn

Library Faculty Publications

This paper identifies twenty-seven state documents classification schemes. To fully understand how and why so many state documents classifications were created, we need to examine the history of classification systems in the United States, as well as trends in library history and their relationships with external events. This paper divides this history into three eras: the birth of American library science, wartime, and, finally, the state documents era, with special attention paid to the events of the 1970s and beyond.

Sustainable Disposal Of Pecan Shells, Jose Carlos Carrasco Jun 2025

Sustainable Disposal Of Pecan Shells, Jose Carlos Carrasco

Open Access Theses & Dissertations

Urbanization acceleration has increased the consumption of natural resources and carbon footprint, pushing the need for sustainable development. Even though various construction materials are needed for infrastructure development, the most commonly used material is Ordinary Portland Cement for strength (OPC) and durability, while sand is used as a filler in the mixes prepared with OPC. The main goal of this study is to find a sustainable substitute for sand, which is locally available and currently being placed in landfills. One such material is pecan shells, and a thorough analysis of the literature led us to investigate the possible use of …

Enthusiastically ‘Muddling Through’: Business School Lecturer Interpretations Of The Impact Of Generative Ai On Their Pedagogic Practices, Arthur Kearney, Emer Emily Neenan Jun 2025

Enthusiastically ‘Muddling Through’: Business School Lecturer Interpretations Of The Impact Of Generative Ai On Their Pedagogic Practices, Arthur Kearney, Emer Emily Neenan

Irish Journal of Academic Practice

An emerging research stream in the domain of the impact of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) on Higher Education, investigates how pedagogy is responding. Focusing on the interpretations of Business School lecturers of how GenAI is impacting on pedagogic practices, the present study proposes a conceptual framework. In depth interviews with four senior business school lecturers were analysed thematically. Findings support the potential for the emergence of novel pedagogic practices in response to GenAI, manifest as: Guiding; co-creation; personalising and challenging. Yet the complexity of the pedagogic environment leads to lecturer de-centring, resulting in pedagogic practices which are tentative in nature. …

Coda: A Digital System For Generation Of Piano Practice Exercises From Symbolic Music Notation, Annie Tang Jun 2025

Coda: A Digital System For Generation Of Piano Practice Exercises From Symbolic Music Notation, Annie Tang

Computer Science Senior Theses

Effective practice remains one of the greatest challenges in music education, yet cur- rent digital music tools primarily support only passage engagement or surface-level feedback, failing to provide proactive guidance for overcoming technical challenges within piano repertoire. This thesis presents Coda, a digital system that generates custom piano practice exercises from symbolic music notation based on established piano pedagogy principles that have historically been taught orally.

Unlike existing tools that only provide a viewable symbolic music notation display or only an interface to take notes and record a practice session, Coda uses rule- based algorithmic transformations rooted in pedagogical logic …

Virtual Reality In Undergraduate And Postgraduate Nursing Education: A Scoping Review Protocol Integrating Data Mining For Topic Discovery, Celeste Alfes Jun 2025

Virtual Reality In Undergraduate And Postgraduate Nursing Education: A Scoping Review Protocol Integrating Data Mining For Topic Discovery, Celeste Alfes

Faculty Scholarship

Virtual Reality (VR) encompasses a range of computer-based technologies that simulate complex scenarios, offering immersive, experiential learning in a controlled virtual environment. In nurs- ing education, VR has the potential to enhance both technical and non-technical competencies. However, the existing literature on VR in nursing education is fragmented, making it challenging to fully grasp its scope, applications, and emerging trends. This scoping review protocol outlines a systematic approach to mapping the existing literature on the use of VR in undergraduate and postgraduate nursing education. Following Joanna Briggs Institute guidelines and the PRISMA- ScR 2020 framework, the review will include studies …

A Toda Bracket Convergence Theorem For Multiplicative Spectral Sequences, Eva Belmont Jun 2025

A Toda Bracket Convergence Theorem For Multiplicative Spectral Sequences, Eva Belmont

Faculty Scholarship

Moss’ theorem, which relates Massey products in the -page of the classical Adams spectral sequence to Toda brackets of homotopy groups, is one of the main tools for calculating Adams differentials. Working in an arbitrary symmetric monoidal stable simplicial model category, we prove a general version of Moss’ theorem which applies to spectral sequences that arise from filtrations compatible with the monoidal structure. This involves the study of Massey products and Toda brackets in a non-strictly associative context. The theorem has broad applications, e.g., to the computation of the motivic slice spectral sequence and other colocalization towers.
