A Multiple Case Study On Cisgender Women Experiences In Electrical And Computer Engineering And Computer Science Majors, Alena Marie Degeorge Jun 2025

A Multiple Case Study On Cisgender Women Experiences In Electrical And Computer Engineering And Computer Science Majors, Alena Marie Degeorge

Theses and Dissertations

Gender disparities are found in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education because of gender norms and stereotypes that project the ideology that men are better at those subjects than women. Women who pursue a college education in STEM encounter barriers that influence them to switch to a non-STEM-related major making them part of the leaky pipeline. This case study examines the experiences that junior and senior cisgender women have while pursuing an electrical and computer engineering or computer science degree and how they overcome barriers they encounter to continue their educational pursuits in a Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) …

Developing Full Performance Interpreters: Cultivating Interdisciplinary Mindsets And Skillsets To Engage Audiences In Climate Change, Women's History, And Other Contested Heritage Topics, Delia A. Lister

Dissertations

Heritage sites immerse visitors in places where the impacts of climate change are readily apparent. They are also powerful places to elevate untold stories of women and girls. Heritage site interpreters interact daily with audiences who bring diverse lived experiences, different levels of subject matter knowledge, and multiple perspectives on climate change and the role of women in history. Every visitor interaction has a set of meanings, values, and narratives that visitors knowingly or unknowingly espouse. To interpret contested heritage topics, such as climate change and women’s history, interpreters must cultivate interdisciplinary mindsets and skillsets. The purpose of this basic …

Department of Medical Oncology Posters

Background

  • Black women are twice as likely to be diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) as compared to White women.
  • The impact of genomic and molecular factors on the racial disparity in TNBC survival remains understudied.
  • Liquid biopsy has yet to be explored in the context of racial survival disparities in TNBC.

D.A.M.P.E.R.: Delay And Attenuation Modules For Propagation Emulation And Response, Matthew Guntz Jun 2025

D.A.M.P.E.R.: Delay And Attenuation Modules For Propagation Emulation And Response, Matthew Guntz

Electrical and Computer Engineering Senior Theses

The DAMPER project, which stands for Delay and Attenuation Modules for Propagation Emulation and Response, is a hands-on system designed to help test how radio signals behave in the real world. When radio waves travel over long distances or through different environments, they often get weaker (attenuated) or arrive later than expected (delayed). DAMPER lets students, researchers, and engineers simulate those conditions in a lab using simple, low-voltage electronics.

Words / Ideas / Poetry, Stephen W. Fried, Samantha Tamburri

Open Educational Resources

words / ideas /poetry is a series of three creative writing exercises with an online and pen-and-paper version of each. The first uses word association to create a lexicon from which a poem and experimental prose piece emerge; the second uses rhymes to create three poems of increasing complexity and the third is a group activity that generates a collective poem about romantic relationships. The activities and instructions for administering and participating are accessed through an online hub that hosts the activities and related material.

Unpredictable Drug Access And Its Relevance For Substance Use Disorders: A Critical Review, William S. Doyle, Kevin B. Freeman, Sally L. Huskinson Jun 2025

Unpredictable Drug Access And Its Relevance For Substance Use Disorders: A Critical Review, William S. Doyle, Kevin B. Freeman, Sally L. Huskinson

Psychiatry Publications

Many factors contribute to drug use and the development of substance use disorders (SUDs). We and others have argued that individuals who misuse illicit drugs face circumstances in which their access to drugs is variable or unpredictable, particularly for those who are experiencing poverty. Herein, we make the case that such unpredictable drug access increases drug intake and choice, particularly when the time and efort required to obtain drugs is relatively large. If translated to real-world scenarios, unpredictable access could lead to increased severity of drug misuse, poorer treatment outcomes, persistence of drug seeking during periods of drug unavailability, drug …

Ignition Interlock Devices: Do They Really Help?, Angelise Khoury, Connor Rolland

Arts & Sciences Undergraduate Showcase

The United States has implemented a wide range of technologies and policies to reduce the amount of alcohol-impaired driving. Some of these include alcohol detection sensors in newer vehicles, ridesharing, DUI checkpoints, Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitoring (SCRAM) bracelets, and more. One widely used technology used to reduce alcohol-impaired driving is the Ignition Interlock Device (IID). The IID is used in lieu of suspending one’s driver’s license after a DUI offense. IIDs are a widely implemented technology that we use today as a method of preventing driving under the influence of alcohol. Although they intend to ensure sober driving and …

Managing Values-Based Purchasing In School Nutrition Programs, Laura Lee Benavidez Jun 2025

Managing Values-Based Purchasing In School Nutrition Programs, Laura Lee Benavidez

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

School nutrition managers face the challenge of balancing values-based purchasing (VBP) with maintaining student participation and budgetary stability. While VBP integrates sustainability, environmental impact, and animal safety, these priorities may sometimes compete with traditional goals, such as cost efficiency and meal accessibility. Grounded in program evaluation theory, the purpose of this mixed methods explanatory sequential study was to examine how school food service managers implement VPB, integrating procurement and nutrition transparency while managing participation and costs. The quantitative phase focused on participation trends, cost structures, and procurement metrics across diverse school districts to establish a foundation for understanding VBP’s measurable …

Understanding The Perceptions Of Campus Racial Climate Of Black Undergraduate Students At A Pwi, Solana Reyes Jun 2025

Understanding The Perceptions Of Campus Racial Climate Of Black Undergraduate Students At A Pwi, Solana Reyes

Theses and Dissertations

The study explores the perceptions of Black undergraduate students regarding the racial climate at a predominantly white institution (PWI). Utilizing quantitative methodologies, the research examines how Black students experience and interpret interactions, institutional policies, and campus culture as they navigate spaces often characterized by racial homogeneity. Key areas of focus include feelings of belonging, exposure to microaggressions, access to culturally relevant resources, and the role of peer and faculty support in shaping these experiences. Findings reveal a complex interplay of support and alienation, with participants reporting both affirming and discriminatory experiences. Many students highlighted the significance of student-led cultural organizations …
