Perceptions Of Exclusionary Discipline In Inclusive Classroom: A Phenomenological Study Of Middle School Co-Teachers’ Experience With Special Education Students Of Color, Tino Tomasi

Doctor of Education Program Dissertations

Exclusionary discipline practices in public middle schools disproportionately impact students of color in special education, disrupting their academic progress and social development. The purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was to explore how public middle school co-teachers in inclusive classrooms perceive the use of exclusionary discipline for special education students of color. The study explored the lived experiences of eight public middle school co-teachers through three research questions: (1) How do public middle school co-teachers in inclusive classrooms perceive the use of exclusionary discipline for special education students of color? (2) How do public middle school co-teachers in inclusive classrooms …

A Comparative Study Of Neural Networks And Xgboost Models For Flight Time Prediction, Ioannis Paraschos, Taryn E. Trimble, Eshna Bhargava, Jake Klingler, Benjamin R. Nicolai

Beyond: Undergraduate Research Journal

Flight time prediction plays a crucial role in modern air travel, benefiting airlines and passengers alike. Accurate predictions enable airlines to optimize schedules, allocate resources effectively, and ensure passenger safety and satisfaction. In recent years, machine learning models, such as neural networks and XGBoost, have gained popularity for predicting flight times. This study aims to compare the performance of neural network and XGBoost models in predicting flight times, considering factors such as weather conditions, air traffic control, and aircraft performance. The results indicate that both models are effective, with XGBoost achieving slightly higher accuracy. However, neural networks offer advantages in …

An Extent Of Children’S Health Coverage: Medicaid, Chip, And Beyond, Rohitha Goonatilake Jun 2025

An Extent Of Children’S Health Coverage: Medicaid, Chip, And Beyond, Rohitha Goonatilake

Journal of Applied Research on Children: Informing Policy for Children at Risk

This article examines children's health coverage today and explores the ways and means to ensure its financial sustainability and the factors associated with it. As extensively argued, reductions in children's coverage would lead to decreased access to care and other long-term effects for children and increase the financial burden on states and providers. It also suggests that reductions in children’s coverage could have broader implications and long-term negative effects on their health, education, and eventually on their financial success as adults. However, despite the decades of progress, mostly bolstered by the Affordable Care Act (ACA), a new funding mechanism needs …

Shared-Key Biometrics Authentication Protocol, Zi Lin, Andrey Vadimovich Pronin Jun 2025

Shared-Key Biometrics Authentication Protocol, Zi Lin, Andrey Vadimovich Pronin

Defensive Publications Series

Existing biometric authentication systems may face limitations in securely managing critical data and establishing robust communication between diverse hardware components. Implementations disclosed herein include a shared-key-based authentication protocol and a fingerprint, secure operating system (OS) application. In some implementations, the system establishes a static shared key, potentially via a cryptographic handshake, followed by the derivation of a per-boot shared session key. This enables secure, authenticated data exchange, such as the loading of an encrypted encryption key seed. Subsequent interactions, including enrollment and authentication sessions, may utilize origin verification, tampering protection, and encryption, e.g., using keyed hash functions and/or authenticated encryption. …

Transport Layer Approaches To Reducing System Resource Utilization And Improving Communication Efficiency, Puneet Kumar Jun 2025

Transport Layer Approaches To Reducing System Resource Utilization And Improving Communication Efficiency, Puneet Kumar

Engineering Ph.D. Theses

Transport and security layer protocols are fundamental to ensuring reliable and secure communication between endpoints. Among transport-layer protocols, TCP is the most widely deployed; however, it su↵ers from several limitations that impact performance, including high per-packet overhead, expensive connection re-establishment, and low per-byte protocol efficiency. To address these shortcomings, the IETF standardized QUIC, a modern UDP-based transport protocol implemented in userspace. QUIC integrates transport and cryptographic features, including packet encryption, retransmission, multiplexing, and stream management, while emulating connection-oriented behavior atop UDP, which is a connectionless protocol. This thesis investigates the limitations of traditional TCP and QUIC in the context of …

Electrical and Computer Engineering Senior Theses

PACRR 2.0 (Piloted Autonomous Crisis Reconnaissance Robot, version 2) builds upon the original low-cost, autonomous-capable quadruped platform by enhancing both mobility and environmental perception for first-responder applications such as search and rescue, gas leak detection, and mapping of confined or hazardous areas. In PACRR 2.0, we integrate an RGB-D camera with analytic inverse kinematics and frame-based motion planning to achieve precise foot placement and stable quasi-static gaits even on sloped or uneven terrain. An NVIDIA Jetson processor runs high-level control and mapping alongside a Raspberry Pi 4 to manage motor control. Through simulation, we demonstrate robust 3D map generation and …

The rise of right-wing populism in European politics has come along side an increased presence of female representation in political affairs. What aesthetic decisions are being made by far-right female populist politicians? How do moderate right and left-wing women politicians differ in their presentation styles from populist women? While right-wing politics have gained traction in Europe before, this time women are the face of many right-wing populist movement, even though much of the ideology is rooted in misogyny and the presence of strong, masculine figureheads. With women taking center stage within these right-wing movements that are historically masculine, understanding their …
