Study objectives: Sleep problems are common in children with SYNGAP1-Related Disorder (SYNGAP1-RD). The use of devices that objectively estimate sleep are complicated by co-occurring sensory disorders in this population. We examined the feasibility and validity of wrist actigraphy to examine sleep and rest-activity rhythms (RAR).

Methods: Data from five children with SYNGAP1-RD and 42 typically developing children were analyzed. All children were asked to wear the Actiwatch-2 for 14 continuous days and caregivers were asked to complete a sleep diary and the Children Sleep Health Questionnaire (CSHQ). Vision is context dependent, with neuronal responses shaped not only by local features but also by surrounding visual input. While classical studies, using grating stimuli, show that iso-oriented surrounds suppress responses more than orthogonal surrounds, the role of contextual modulation under natural stimulus conditions remains less clear. Using recordings from mouse primary visual cortex (V1), we trained convolutional neural network models to predict neuronal responses to natural images and synthesized surround stimuli that selectively suppressed or facilitated responses to optimal center inputs. In vivo experiments confirmed these predictions. Facilitatory surrounds resembled naturalistic continuations of the optimal center stimulus, consistent with …

While on the hunt for examples of "librarian" characters portrayed in popular culture, it can be thrilling when said characters make an appearance in feature length films or Hollywood blockbusters. However, sometimes a higher level of satisfaction can be found when examples come from smaller, more personal, projects.

One person films a three-minute clip of their friend wearing glasses and a fake "bun" wig, then uploads it to YouTube. Background: Deep-brain stimulation (DBS) systems are implanted for movement disorders, epilepsy, and psychiatric conditions. Neurologic surgery remains the only discipline credentialed to implant DBS devices, although significant practice variation exists, partly due to heterogeneous training. The North American Neuromodulation Society (NANS) education committee offers a granular recommendation for the progression of an early learner through the practitioner level. It is contextualized within the six-core competency rubric for the surgical implantation of DBS devices.

In 2016, the Japan Children's Cancer Group launched a nationwide research initiative to provide central diagnosis incorporating pathology review and molecular profiling for pediatric central nervous system (CNS) tumors. Over the first eight years, 2224 cases were registered. Non-next-generation sequencing analyzes, such as pyrosequencing and NanoString, were routinely performed, mainly for glioma, medulloblastoma, and ependymoma. Additional analyzes, including methylation profiling and RNA sequencing, were conducted for selected diagnostically challenging cases. The most common diagnoses were low-grade glioma (26%), medulloblastoma (18%), germ cell tumor (16%), high-grade glioma (12%), and ependymoma (11%). The aerodynamic performance and loading behavior of large- scale wind turbines depend heavily on atmospheric inflow conditions and rotor orientation. While upwind turbines remain the most common design in the industry, recent progress in materials, aeroelastic modeling, and control systems has sparked renewed interest in downwind configurations. This study aims to assess how ABL characteristics and rotor orientation affect the aerodynamic performance of a utility- scale wind turbine. In fall 2025, UAA researchers held focus groups to talk to Anchorage municipality residents about their attitudes towards a wildfire mitigation technique called fuel treatments. Findings indicated residents support fuel treatments, but had questions about aesthetic and environmental implications, financial barriers, and the policy process.

The Sunshine Pump is a trailer-mounted, off-grid solar powered water pumping system that delivers approximately 1,000 gallons of water per day from a well of approximately 250 feet total dynamic head to an above-ground storage tank on a rural ranch in Los Osos, California. The system captures solar energy with a 1,500 watt photovoltaic array consisting of four 375 watt panels wired in series, regulates that energy through a maximum power point tracking stage integrated into an all-in-one inverter/charger, stores it in a 4,800 watt-hour LiFePO4 battery, and converts it to 230 volt AC power to drive a 0.75 horsepower …

Background & aims: Most pediatric hepatocellular tumors are classified as hepatoblastoma (HB) or hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), yet a subset exhibits mixed histological and molecular features. These hepatoblastomas with carcinoma features (HBCs) include cases provisionally designated as hepatocellular neoplasm-not otherwise specified (HCN-NOS). Their biology remains poorly understood, with unresolved questions about their cellular composition and outcomes. It is unclear whether HBCs comprise hybrid cells with combined HB and HCC characteristics (HBC cells) or admixtures of distinct HB and HCC cells. We characterized the biology, etiology, cellular composition, and evolutionary dynamics of HBCs.

Background: Accurate segmentation of brain metastases (BM) is essential for diagnosis, stereotactic radiosurgery planning, and longitudinal assessment. However, manual contouring is time-intensive, limiting clinical scalability, and exhibits substantial inter-observer variability. This variability complicates objective assessment of automated segmentation methods and challenges interpretation of model performance.

Purpose: To address these limitations, we developed TUM-SAM, a hybrid foundation-model framework for fully automated BM segmentation, and introduced a bias-controlled, blinded multi-rater evaluation paradigm to determine whether AI-based BM segmentation has reached expert-level performance and whether AI-generated contours are preferred by human experts under unbiased assessment.

Differentiation requires coordinated exit from the stem cell state, during which gene regulatory networks sustaining self-renewal are dismantled, while lineage-specific programs are activated. This transition is governed by chromatin modifications, transcriptional networks, RNA processing, translational control, and metabolic rewiring that must operate with temporal precision. Despite significant progress in identifying individual regulatory components, understanding how these layers integrate to orchestrate irreversible cell fate commitment remains a fundamental challenge. This review examines common and unique regulatory principles governing stem cell exit, from totipotency during early embryogenesis to tissue-specific stem cell differentiation in adults. PURPOSE

The purpose of this Quality Improvement (QI) project was to connect patients to a Primary Care Provider (PCP). The specific aim was to increase by 25% the percentage of patients without a PCP who established care with a PCP within 30 days of visiting the Same Day Clinic (SDC).

BACKGROUND

The SDC provides episodic care for acute illness, making it difficult to coordinate care for patients who do not have a PCP and require follow-up. The project was implemented in an outpatient clinic that is connected to a larger primary care group in Houston, Texas.

Rain impact can be a source of surface erosion on hypersonic vehicles, and the severity of each impact depends on droplet velocity, mass, and final shape, all of which are set by how the droplet breaks up under shock loading. Real droplets are expected to carry entrained non-condensable gas (NCG) nuclei from their formation. This dissertation investigates whether the purely mechanical, pressure-driven response of these nuclei, independent of vaporization, is large enough to measurably alter the internal pressure field and early deformation of a shock-loaded droplet.
