Csey Data Advocacy: Reducing Harm Through Data - Csey Survivors, Maria Barquin Sommers, Brianna Armstrong

SMU Human Trafficking Data Conference

This presentation will focus on the crucial overlap of time management and protection for survivors during data collection. Time management is an essential part of any successful organization, especially when working with vulnerable populations, such as survivors of human trafficking, and facing tight schedules and budgets. It is time- consuming to read through blocks of narratives to find necessary details on survivors, but more importantly, survivors can be harmed by being forced to relive their trauma during data collection. On the other hand, narratives written by advocates can harm survivors if subpoenaed. Documentation data systems that gather quantitative information and …

Polarization Of The Moon In Visible And Infrared Spectral Bands As A Function Of Phase Angle, Erica Venkatesulu, Elyse Duley, Joseph A. Shaw

The Characterization and Radiometric Calibration for Remote Sensing Annual Meeting (CALCON)

The Moon can be used as a stable calibration source for on-orbit satellite instruments. This has been enabled by comprehensive work that characterized and modeled the lunar irradiance as a function of wavelength, phase angle, and libration angle. However, the polarization state of the Moon must also be known to enable on-orbit lunar calibration of polarization-sensitive instruments. In prior work, the disk-averaged degree of linear polarization of the Moon as a function of phase angle was measured in ultraviolet and visible spectral bands. Additionally, disk-resolved degree of linear polarization measurements, including point measurements of various lunar regions and images, have …

Computing devices provide multiple applications that may incorporate similar functionality. Recommending a particular application for a current user task is necessitated when a user relies on the operating system or a virtual assistant to recommend the application to use. Current feature recommendation techniques rely on predefined descriptions and criteria, which can be rigid and inaccurate. Such techniques also do not take into account user preferences regarding interaction modality for the tool to use. This disclosure describes techniques that leverage a large language model (LLM) to provide feature recommendations (app recommendations) accurately and that take into account user preferences regarding modality …

Optimized Timestamp Storage, N/A Jun 2025

Optimized Timestamp Storage, N/A

Defensive Publications Series

Data processing systems can associate a timestamp with input data when it is received. Throughout subsequent processing, the association between the data and its timestamp is maintained, and the original timestamp is provided with output data when processing is completed. The timestamp is stored at each processing step requiring storage for the timestamp value at each step. Storage requirements are shown to be reduced by compressing the timestamp value to include a portion of the bits of the timestamp value containing the least significant bits of the value. At output, the compressed timestamp value is compared to the current timestamp …

Why Acromegaly Dies: A Systematic Review, Isam Noori Salman, Safaa Ehssan Atta, Baydaa Ahmed Abed, Noor Ulhuda G. Mohammed

Maaen Journal for Medical Sciences

Acromegaly is a rare endocrine clinical syndrome characterized by long-term elevated production of growth hormone (GH) due to a pituitary adenoma tumor. The main problem of acromegaly patients (AC-PTs) is prolonged elevated GH concentration, which leads to increased insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) production, causing the characteristic tissue and bone overgrowth. The appearance of diabetes in AC-PTs was linked with the high risks of cardiovascular morbidity, indicating that individuals with both conditions face heightened health challenges. Acromegaly typically has a higher cancer incidence rather than the general population. Without early diagnosis and effective treatment, excess GH can have widespread systemic …
