This program brief outlines the core design components of the Miner Teacher Residency, the premier year-long preparation experience for all education majors and post-baccalaureate teacher candidates in the College of Education at the University of Texas at El Paso.  This brief serves as a companion document to “UTEP’s Miner Teacher Residents Boost Student Learning, Serve High-Need Schools, and Stay in Texas Classrooms,” which presents evidence of the positive impact of the residency on student learning outcomes in Texas classrooms.

In the Karen Read case, majorities of Bay Staters believe police concealed evidence in the case and believe police conduct is indicative of a wider problem with policing in Massachusetts. Generally speaking, pluralities of Massachusetts residents believe state and local police in the commonwealth do a good job protecting people from crime, treating racial and ethnic groups equally, and using the right amount of force, but four in ten believe police do a poor job holding officers responsible when misconduct occurs. Nearly all Massachusetts residents feel comfortable calling 911 when needed.

The Effect Of Vaccine Mandates On Disease Spread: Evidence From College Covid-19 Mandates, Riley K. Acton, Wenjia Cao, Emily E. Cook, Scott A. Imberman, Michael F. Lovenheim

Nearly 700 4-year U.S. colleges mandated students receive COVID-19 vaccinations in fall 2021. Using data on college policies and county health, we estimate how mandates affect surrounding communities. Event studies from August to November 2021 show that mandates covering all colleges in a county reduced COVID-19 deaths by 5.6 per 100,000 persons, a 4.6% reduction in the U.S. total during this period. Mandates reduced COVID cases by 504 and ICU admissions by 16.2 per 100,000, though we see no statistically significant impact on hospitalizations. Impacts are larger in counties with larger college populations and low estimated ex-ante student vaccination rates.

While Indigenous Peoples represent 2.9% of the total United States (US) population (Office of Minority Health, 2025), only 0.4% of the 4.7 million Registered Nurses (RN) in the US are Indigenous (AACN, 2024). This disparity in nursing representation impacts healthcare delivery and access in Indigenous communities. Healthcare services in Indigenous communities, such as those provided through Indian Health Services (IHS) and 638 facilities, often face high vacancies and high turnover rates (Kruse 2022). There are gaps in mentorship, professional development, community of practice, and available curriculum to practicing Indigenous Nurses who serve their communities. These gaps must be addressed to …

Historic and recent elevation data for the glaciers in the conterminous US were differenced to estimate glacier mass and volume change.

Historic glacier elevations were obtained from the USGS National Elevation Dataset (https://doi.org/10.15760/geology-data.04), a digitized product from the USGS 1:24,000 paper topographic maps that included the glacier extent (Gesch, 2007). Recent glacier elevations were derived from aerial lidar and from satellite radar. The lidar data were largely obtained from the USGS 3D Elevation Program (Stoker and Miller, 2022; US Geological Survey, 2024), and filtered by acquisition date using only those data collected between mid-summer and early autumn. BACKGROUND: Measurement of donor-derived cell-free DNA fraction (dd-cfDNA%) and donor quantity score (DQS) is a noninvasive biomarker of acute rejection in heart transplantation (HT). Its prognostic value beyond histopathology remains uncertain.

OBJECTIVES: This study sought to evaluate associations between donor-derived cell-free DNA (dd-cfDNA) and clinically meaningful outcomes using a composite endpoint of treated rejection, graft dysfunction, retransplantation, or death within 1 year post-HT.

Objectives: The objective of this study is to examine the relationship between fluoroquinolone exposure and pneumothorax risk in patients hospitalized with pneumonia.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study used the TriNetX US Collaborative Network. We defined two mutually exclusive cohorts of hospitalized adults based on exposure to antibiotic classes commonly used to treat community acquired pneumonia: fluoroquinolone (ciprofloxacin, moxifloxacin, levofloxacin, and ofloxacin) versus nonfluoroquinolone (amoxicillin, azithromycin, ceftriaxone, and doxycycline). Patients with connective tissue disorders were excluded. The primary outcome was the occurrence of pneumothorax within 60 days. While pulses are globally recognized for their high levels of dietary fibers, protein, and polyphenols, research often focuses on characterizing the physiological effects of a single variety. This approach overlooks the substantial genetic and compositional diversity that exists across pulse varieties and individual market classes, which can differ extensively in nutrient content and structure. These compositional differences have the potential to produce distinct physiological and microbial responses in humans, yet variety- and market-class-specific effects remain poorly characterized.

Obstetric (OB) patients frequently present physiological changes, including edema, obesity, and peripheral vasoconstriction, that increase the risk of difficult intravenous access (DIVA). Multiple IV attempts can delay time-sensitive therapies in obstetric emergencies and increase patient discomfort and provider workload. Research studies have supported the use of the Modified Adult Difficult Intravenous Access (A-DIVA) scale to assess patients for DIVA, and the use of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) guided peripheral intravenous access (PIVA). Incoming undergraduate students possess information literacy skillsets impacted by several factors, such as prior development of information literacy skills, librarian-faculty collaboration, and GenAI advancements. Academic librarians’ perspectives on undergraduate students’ library use and information literacy skills were examined via a 2025 survey of 337 undergraduate academic librarians. Using the Pearson bivariate method, the authors identified themes pertaining to the challenges students face as well as librarian-proposed solutions. Open responses from librarians provide additional insights. The results showed that librarians desire faculty partnerships and collaborative library instruction to improve information literacy skills and library use.
