Comparison Of Elementary Dual Language Immersion Programs And Non-Dual Language Immersion Classes Before And After Attrition, Nathaniel Blain Mitchell

Using a longitudinal, multi-cohort design, this study examines the academic and linguistic effects of student attrition from Spanish-English dual language immersion (DLI) programs, particularly among multilingual learners (MLs). Drawing on 10 years of assessment data from two schools, the study addresses four research questions through multinomial logistic regression and hierarchical linear modeling to evaluate predictors of attrition, reading growth trajectories, and English language proficiency across student subgroups. Results indicated that attrition was most common in the early grades and was modestly associated with disability rates. At the same time, assessment scores were not predictive of program exit. In this dissertation, I examine the ways in which Chinese mythology has figured in American poetry, focusing particularly on the ways Chinese mythologies have served—and continue to serve—as “hitching posts,” quasi-material sites from which meaning can be created and explored. As I am defining it, a myth is a narrative that gives meaning to a lived experience. It explains what we commemorate and worship and renders meaningful both celebration and life. Recent advancements in deep learning have brought significant concerns regarding the privacy of training data due to overfitting and memorization, as well as a lack of defense mechanisms. In model inversion attacks, where Attackers aim to reconstruct original private training samples (i.e images) just by using the DNN model’s last layer output. Traditional black-box MI attacks face three key challenges: (1) Non-convex optimization landscapes often trap reconstructions in poor local minima, degrading output quality. (2) Black-box scenarios require excessive queries to approximate gradients, raising detection risks. This study examines how young children engage with picturebooks, discussion, dramatic inquiry, and writing to negotiate diverse perspectives and develop empathy in an early childhood classroom. Grounded in sociocultural and critical literacy theories, the research explores the role of dialogic pedagogy in fostering young learners’ agency and social awareness. Utilizing a qualitative single-case study design, data were collected over a full academic year in a second-grade classroom through video recordings, field notes, interviews, and student artifacts. Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) accounts for approximately 15% of breast cancers and lacks estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR), and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2), rendering it unresponsive to hormonal or anti-HER2 therapies. Due to its poor prognosis and limited treatment options, there is an urgent need for targeted therapies. In this study, we developed highly adaptable polyamidoamine (PAMAM) dendrimer-based gel nanoparticles with dual-targeting capabilities against urokinase-type plasminogen activator receptor (uPAR) and ribonucleotide reductase R2 (R2). Drawing on Bourdieu’s (1986) framework of embodied, objectified and institutionalised capital, this paper explores how technological universities (TUs) support the development of students’ cultural capital through active learning approaches. The formation of technological universities in Ireland marked a notable shift in the higher education landscape, with an emphasis on these institutions meeting the regional and economic needs of the location in which they operate. Oftentimes, archivists and programmers feel like Sisyphus of Greek myth, continually rolling our boulder, the digital library, up the hill of stakeholder expectations. Since 1998, the University of Kentucky Libraries has provided online access to digital and digitized archival content through ExploreUK.uky.edu and other sites. Like many other institutions, UK Libraries has faced technological, organizational, and communication challenges in this endeavor. This presentation explores how UK Libraries responded to these challenges by expanding the decision-making team, after years of unclear responsibility and ownership, to reinvigorate internal interest and investment in the local digital library system and workflows.

The 1980 Gwangju Uprising is a significant event in contemporary South Korean political history. In the decades following, "Gwangju literature" has provided an avenue for representation, narrativization, and encounter with the event. South Korean author Han Kang is another writer of the Uprising, and her 2014 novel Human Acts returns to the site of injury in order to open up the event to the larger histories of sovereignty, civil conflict, and war that it localizes in Gwangju, 1980.

Using the novel moisture sensor invented by Dr. Zhi David Chen, we tried various methods to measure the moisture levels in oils. The initial trials are to immerse the sensor chip into the oils to see any sensor reading changes with the change of moisture levels in oils. This survey provides data on 2147 U.S. and 82 Canadian stormwater utilities. The data is intended to provide useful data to communities that wish to enact stormwater utilities. Different fee systems are examined with the goal of avoiding legal exposure. Recently, the major source of pre-disaster mitigation funds was eliminated. States should consider state-wide stormwater utilities to make up for this loss.

Accurate segmentation of lesions in chest CT scans plays a vital role in diagnosing and monitoring pulmonary diseases such as COVID-19. In this, we introduce a novel 2.5D[1] dual-encoder U-Net model[2] that utilizes both the central slice and its neighboring slices to improve segmentation accuracy while keeping computational demands manageable. Our model incorporates residual connections[3] and feature fusion[4] to effectively merge multi-slice contextual information, overcoming the limitations found in traditional 2D and 3D methods. This dissertation is a study on the epistemological theory of divine illumination in the works of Meister Eckhart (c. 1260 - 1329 CE). Illumination, first asserted by St. Augustine, is the theory that the human intellect is incapable of achieving epistemic certainty regarding what it sensorily receives. To gain this certainty, the mind is reliant upon illumination, wherein the sensed object is known by the mind through the light of that object's divine idea, which also serves as its ontological principle. Cross-linked fibrous networks are central to maintaining the structural integrity and functional relevance of many biological and engineered materials. Fibrin networks are the building blocks of blood clots, mediators of tissue injury and repair, and synthetic wound sealants. Cross-linking of fibrin fibers is catalyzed by the activated form of transglutaminase enzyme FXIIIa, which becomes available in plasma but is also readily presented on the surface of activated platelets and macrophages. This bibliometric study investigates global research trends on phonological awareness in second language learning (SLL) among pre-primary school children from 2014 to 2023. The study utilizes data from the Dimensions database, and is guided by three objectives: analysing publication volume trends, identifying leading contributors (countries, institutions, authors, journals), and mapping dominant research themes. It employs the VOSviewer—a software tool for constructing and visualizing bibliometric networks—to conduct co-authorship, co-citation, and keyword co-occurrence analyses. This study aimed at examining the socio-emotional development of employed mothers’ children in the metropolis of Dar es Salaam. Early childhood socio-emotional development is crucial for shaping a child’s short- and long-term well-being, relationships, and overall mental health. An exploratory qualitative approach employing a phenomenological design, guided this study. In-depth interviews, documentary reviews, and active participant observation were used to collect data. The study sample comprised of 42 working mothers, 9 domestic workers, and 90 children under five years of age of the same mothers. Purposive sampling was used to select working mothers, while domestic workers were selected incidentally. The …
