Weeding—it’s not just for overgrown gardens and neglected bookshelves. As institutional repositories age, they accumulate digital clutter: orphaned collections, outdated records, and the occasional relic that makes you wonder, why did we ever upload this? At Georgia Southern University, our repository, Georgia Southern Commons, recently celebrated its eleventh birthday—a milestone marked not with cake, but with a long-overdue audit of its 1,900+ structures and 150,000+ items records.

However, conducting a large-scale repository weeding project isn’t as simple as hitting "delete" (tempting as that may be). Without built-in visualization tools in Digital Commons, tracking down what belongs where—and whether it still …

In the wake of high-profile calls for AI regulation from tech leaders like Sam Altman and Brad Smith, domestic efforts to shape AI governance in the U.S. are becoming more urgent. Moderated by Professor Steve Tapia, this panel of legal scholars examined the evolving field of AI regulation, here from domestic sources, focusing on gaps in legal literacy, the limits of tort law, and the promise of more transparent frameworks. Panelists explored the challenges posed by the “Black Box” nature of AI, including trade secret protections, opaque algorithms, and their impact on tort causation and discrimination. In this presentation, I will discuss my experience harvesting metadata from Digital Commons holdings records into WorldCat Discovery via OCLC’s WorldCat Digital Collection Gateway. This is a self-service client that allows librarians to configure and enable metadata harvesting for any or all collections within their OAI-compliant repositories into WorldCat Discovery, thus increasing the visibility and discoverability of those records. WorldCat Digital Collection Gateway works more seamlessly with OCLC’s own CONTENTdm repository product, but it can also be used to harvest metadata from Digital Commons, with WorldCat records linking directly to the repository content itself. This keynote discussion explored the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI), race, and democratic governance, focusing on the challenges and opportunities AI presents for creating a racially inclusive democracy. Professor Overton argued that while AI has transformative potential, it is currently influenced by actors and systems that may unintentionally (or intentionally) weaken racial equity. The spread of AI technologies—without proper safeguards—has opened new pathways for reinforcing structural inequalities, especially in the democratic process.

Innovative Virtual Mentoring: The Impact Of Technology On Neurologic Physical Therapy Education, A Case Study, Joy Williams, Joanne Pho

Purpose: This case report provides an example of the utilization of true wireless earbud (TWE) technology within virtual mentoring sessions in an outpatient setting, aimed at enhancing mentee learning within a neurologic physical therapy residency program.

Methods: The mentor- mentee pair, consisting of one mentor and one mentee, participated in virtual mentorship sessions using a combination setup that included visual communication through a Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliant video conferencing platform delivered on a tablet, and audio through TWE. A Review Of The Biology Of The Elm Spanworm (Lepidoptera: Geometridae), A. T. Drooz

The Great Lakes Entomologist

The elm spanworm is a serious defoliator of many species of broadleaved trees, particularly oaks, hickories, black walnut, and red maple. Its life history is reported herein, and the effects of various natural diets on its biology are included. Its different habits of oviposition in the North and South are compared, and early outbreaks are mentioned briefly. Evidence indicates that outbreaks terminate from either late spring frost or one of two recently described egg parasites.

Notes On The Biology And Damage Of Two Acrobasis Species (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) On Black Walnut In Michigan, Peter J. Martinat, William E. Wallner

Acrobasis juglundis (Le Baron), and A. demotella Grote cause extensive damage to black walnut foliage and branchlets, and are potential threats to commercial production of walnut trees in Michigan. Both species are univoltine in Michigan and overwinter in hibernacula. lnstars 1-111 are morphologically indistinguishable between species and have similar feeding habits. In the spring, A. demotella was active about two weeks earlier, caused more damage. and was more abundant than A. juglandis. Five parasitoids were reared from A. juglandis including Trathala plesia (Cushman), a new record. No parasitoids were reared from A. denzotella.

The Significance Of Labels: From Shy And Lazy To Autistic And Adhd, Katrine K. Bechsgaard

This article examines the ways in which language and conceptions of neurodivergent conditions, autism and ADHD, are connected in a Danish context. As in other Western countries, there are significant increases in diagnoses, and particularly women are being diagnosed in adulthood. The article focuses on how these conditions are perceived and talked about, utilizing concepts such as othering, labeling, and performativity. The analysis suggests that when individuals feel othered and stigmatized by diagnostic labels, it has less to do with the labels themselves and more to do with the connotations and pathologization connected with the labels. “My Mind in Middlemarch” is a creative-critical essay and personal narrative of self-diagnosis. It was modeled in length and (somewhat) in style on Rebecca Mead’s essay, “Middlemarch and Me,” which appeared in The New Yorker in 2011 and was later expanded into her book, My Life in Middlemarch (2014). This personal essay narrates my journey to self-diagnosis and the initial discovery of my autism— a realization sparked by the resonance I found between my life and that of Dorothea Brooke, the central heroine of George Eliot’s classic British novel.

The disclosing of an autism diagnosis presents particular challenge for autistic mothers, especially for those autistic mothers who are additionally advocating for their autistic children within public service provision. Research into autism and parental blame demonstrates how autistic mothers are disproportionately exposed to aspects of mother-blame.

Disclosure of an autism diagnosis for autistic mothers can therefore be understood as a complex decision-making process whereby managing autistic identity and understanding autistic self are impacted by the additional need to manage the perceptions of others and associated stigma.
