The problem addressed through this study was many preschool students in the United States lack the social skills needed to be successful in kindergarten. The study’s purpose was to explore preschool teachers’ perspective regarding some children’s lack of social skills needed for success in kindergarten and the efforts teachers made to promote development of these skills. Using Flavell’s theoretical framework of metacognition and cognitive monitoring, 2 research questions were developed to address teachers’ perspectives and efforts to improve children’s social skills. Anti-Abortion Centers (AACs) pose a grave threat to the reproductive health outcomes of Americans. Disguising themselves as licensed health clinics, AACs target vulnerable communities to prevent or delay abortion care through the spread of medical misinformation, contributing to abortion stigmatization. Situated in a state with a near-total abortion ban, this secret-shopper study aimed to understand the ways in which AACs in Tampa, Florida communicate anti-abortion rhetoric to pregnant people seeking abortions. Sleep disturbances are highly prevalent among individuals with AUD. Sleep and alcohol have a bidirectional relationship such that alcohol damages sleep-promoting brain regions, and impaired sleep exacerbates cognitive and emotional deficits that can promote alcohol use. Despite the evidence that sleep improves across treatment for AUD, these improvements have had inconsistent associations with treatment outcomes. This may result from previous research focusing solely on mean values of sleep parameters rather than daily within-person variability. The research fundamentally challenges romanticized ideas of migration—shedding older inequalities, idealizing “leveling up,” and being a part of “unified diasporic communities”—and unmasks a rather uneasy, far more intricate reality: the preexisting sociocultural and political structures and identities are not shed, rather actively reproduced and rigorously, often consciously, reconfigured within the transnational diasporic spaces. Social ostracism is linked to adverse psychological outcomes, including increased suicide risk among college students. This study examined a manipulation targeting emotion malleability beliefs and its effect on psychological outcomes after a lab-induced social ostracism task (Cyberball). Psychache, a well-established predictor for suicide risk, was examined as a potential moderator variable. College students (N = 243) were randomly assigned to either an experimental condition, which presented information stating that emotions are malleable, or a neutral control condition. Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is a strategy for mitigating climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions from large stationary sources like fossil-fuel-fired power stations. One method of CCS involves carbon dioxide (CO2) sequestration in deep saline aquifers, where supercritical CO2 is injected into an aquifer. Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) responds poorly to conventional treatments and immunotherapy. We previously developed a binary oncolytic/helper-dependent adenovirus system (CAdTrio) that facilitated oncolysis and expressed the immunomodulatory molecule interleukin-12 and a programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) blocking mini-antibody. Given that CAdTrio enhanced endogenous natural killer (NK) cell anti-tumor activity in humanized mice bearing PDAC tumors and that NK cells can be adoptively transferred to patients safely in the allogeneic setting, we hypothesized that a combination of CAdTrio and allogeneic NK cells expressing a HER2-specific chimeric antigen receptor (HER2.CAR-NK) would be an effective, entirely “off-the-shelf” treatment against …

Background

The effectiveness of endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) for low Alberta Stroke Program Early CT score (ASPECTS) stroke patients with occlusion of the second segment of the middle cerebral artery (M2) is unclear.

Methods

This was a multicenter retrospective study. Patients with M1 or M2 occlusions and low ASPECTS (< 6) who underwent successful EVT (modified treatment in cerebral ischemia score of 2b or higher) were included. Primary outcome was futile EVT reperfusion (defined as 90-day modified Rankin scale of 5 or 6). Other outcomes of interest include acceptable outcomes (modified Rankin scale of 3 or less) and intracranial hemorrhage (ICH), and all-cause 90-day mortality. Outcomes for M1 patients were compared to M2 patients with multivariable logistic regression models accounting for potential confounders.

Results

173 patients with M1 or M2 occlusions and low ASPECTS (< 6) who underwent successful EVT were identified. After multivariable adjustments, M2 patients had significantly higher odds of futile reperfusion (OR 5.48 [95%CI 1.91 to 15.7], p = 0.002), lower odds of acceptable outcomes (OR 0.33 [95%CI 0.12 to 0.89], p = 0.028), and higher odds of all-cause mortality (OR 4.90 [95%CI 1.65 to 14.5], p = 0.004). These findings suggest that EVT's efficacy for low-ASPECTS stroke patients may be diminished for patients with M2 occlusions. M2 occlusion was not significantly associated with ICH.

Conclusions

Among low-ASEPCTS stroke patients who underwent successful EVT, those with M2 occlusions had significantly higher odds of poor outcome compared to those with M1 occlusions.

In a holdover proceeding, the court addressed the retroactivity of the Housing Stability and Tenant Protection Act of 2019 (HSTPA)'s "personal use" exception, which limits landlords to recovering one unit and requires "immediate and compelling necessity." The Appellate Division held that where a landlord had not obtained a judgment of possession prior to HSTPA's enactment, the new law applies. This reversed the Appellate Term and affirmed the Civil Court's dismissal, finding no impermissible retroactive effect since the landlord had no vested right to multiple units.

The Court of Appeals affirmed the City of Kingston's declaration of a housing emergency and its opt-in to the ETPA, rejecting the property owners' challenge to the vacancy study's methodology as insufficiently proven unreliable. The Court also upheld the Kingston Rent Guidelines Board's "fair market rent" guideline and rent adjustment guideline, finding no impermissible retroactivity under *Regina Metro.* The petitioners' claims regarding the 15% rent reduction were not preserved for appeal. This landmark decision clarifies municipal authority to implement rent stabilization under HSTPA.

The brain's endocannabinoid signaling system modulates a diverse range of physiological phenomena and is also involved in various psychiatric and neurological disorders. The basic components of the molecular machinery underlying endocannabinoid-mediated synaptic signaling have been known for decades. However, limitations associated with the short-lived nature of endocannabinoid lipid signals had made it challenging to determine the spatiotemporal specificity and dynamics of endocannabinoid signaling in vivo. Importance: Preoperative stereotactic radiation therapy (SRT) vs postoperative SRT logistics and toxic effects provides clinically significant data on management outcomes.

Objective: To determine preoperative SRT logistics and safety profile compared with postoperative in patients with brain metastases.

Design, setting, and participants: This single-institution phase 3 randomized clinical trial included patients 18 years and older and undergoing a planned surgical resection. One factor that may account for this relationship is family accommodation (how family members alter their behavior to alleviate child distress). This thesis examines the macroeconomic effects of Bitcoin's fixed money supply within a dynamic general equilibrium context. Traditional Keynesian economics proposes that central banks regulate the money supply through interest rate manipulation and monetary interventions to promote economic stability within the market. However, cryptocurrencies, like Bitcoin, present a challenge due to their algorithmically predetermined supply, which halves every four years, removing discretionary monetary policy. By adapting Calvo's (1983) staggered-price model to a closed economy, supposing Bitcoin is the only medium of exchange, it is deduced that Bitcoin's deflationary nature causes a persistent consumption collapse and hyper deflationary spirals. This thesis examines the limitations of Egypt’s current constitutional review system and argues for the introduction of a direct access mechanism to the Supreme Constitutional Court (SCC). Under Egypt’s centralized model of judicial review, individuals are restricted to indirect access through ordinary courts, which has resulted in significant procedural and substantive inefficiencies. The referral-based mechanism of judicial review of legislation has caused delays in adjudicating constitutional claims, the insulation of certain laws from review, legislative omissions, and excessive gatekeeping by lower courts. In this thesis I argue that the problem is epistemic, stemming from how we perceive and know ourselves as physical and mental beings. This argument will be explored through the respective of idealisms proposed by George Berkeley and Immanuel Kant. The Ḥirz al-Amānī wa-Wajh al-Tahānī of Abū al-Qāsim b. Fīrruh al-Shāṭibī (d. 590/1193) became one of the most widely studied texts associated with the recitation of the Qur’an. A didactic versification of Abū ʿAmr al-Dānī’s (d. 444/1053) Kitāb al-Taysīr fī al-Qirāʾāt al-Sabaʿ, the Shāṭibiyya was composed in Ayyubid Egypt and transformed the discipline of the variant readings (qirāʾāt). However, in certain scenarios—such as disaster zones, geographically remote areas with intermittent or no connectivity, or regions facing peak network loads—such continuous communication paths may be unavailable. Sake, a traditional rice beverage from Japan, is brewed using four key ingredients: rice, water, a koji mold, and yeast. While sake is gaining popularity in the US market, there remains a significant knowledge gap regarding the best practices for sake production and how different methods impact the chemical and sensory aspects of American sake as well as its resemblance to traditional Japanese sake. Deformation is a change in the device state or shape such that the device is no longer well described by factory calibration parameters to the detriment of user experience. Speeding up video playback without taking into account the semantic context can result in degradation of audio and motion quality. This disclosure describes techniques that optimize audio and video playback by semantically analyzing content to selectively skip irrelevant segments. Audio and/or video content is segmented into temporal chunks, classified based on contextual importance using machine learning models, and adjusted according to a target playback speed.
