This essay examines the alarming rise of U.S book. Our stance is grounded in our experiences as educators and academics in Florida, the state with the highest number of book bans and legislation that has significantly impacted education. Book bans infringe on freedom of expression, right to access information, = students’ right to education, and real harm to targeted communities (i.e., LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC communities), as the bans contribute to the ongoing marginalization and stigmatization of these communities. While Bluetooth low energy (BLE) advertising is less power-intensive than scanning, emitting an always-on connectable advertisement consumes power. This disclosure describes techniques of power-efficient BLE advertising by using a proxy device to effect a seamless reconnection protocol between a central device and a peripheral device without user interaction. A companion device (e.g., a smartphone) paired with a peripheral (e.g., a smartwatch) acts as a BLE proxy. When a central device (e.g., a tablet) scans for the peripheral, the proxy advertises on behalf of the peripheral using encrypted certificates and identifiers. Background: This study aims to investigate how unilateral load-bearing conditions influence lower limb muscle synergistic control patterns during walking. Understanding these patterns is crucial for elucidating the biomechanics of gait under loaded conditions. Materials and Methods: Sixteen healthy adults participated in the study. The Qualisys 600 series motion capture system was used to collect kinematic data, and the Delsys 16-channel wireless surface EMG system to record muscle activity. Four unilateral loading conditions (LL10, LR10, LL20, LR20) were tested, with normal walking as the control. This project explored leadership degradation among mid-to-senior enlisted members (E5–E9) of the United States Air Force using the concept of leadership entropy, the gradual decline of psychological and relational capacity in the absence of sustained support. The topic was selected to address a gap in understanding how internal leadership resilience erodes despite continued performance. A convergent mixed methods design was used, integrating quantitative survey constructs such as burnout, psychological capital, and perceived organizational support with open-ended narrative responses. Malaria, toxoplasmosis, and cryptosporidiosis are caused by apicomplexan parasites Plasmodium spp., Toxoplasma gondii, and Cryptosporidium parvum, respectively, and pose major health challenges. Their therapies are inadequate, ineffective or threatened by drug resistance. The development of novel drugs against them requires innovative and resource-efficient strategies. We exploited the kinome conservation of these parasites to determine the cellular targets and effects of two Plasmodium falciparum inhibitors in T. gondii and C. parvum. The imidazoles, (R)-RY-1-165 and (R)-RY-1-185, were developed to target the cGMP dependent protein kinase of P. falciparum (PfPKG), orthologs of which are present in T. gondii and C. parvum. Using …

BACKGROUND: Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is an aggressive hematologic cancer with a notoriously bleak prognosis; for non-M3 AML, the overall 5-year survival rate is ∼30%. While 60-70% of newly diagnosed AML patients will achieve complete remission (CR), half of these patients will experience relapse (secondary resistance) by three years from their diagnosis. Moreover, 30-40% of AML patients present with refractory disease (primary resistance) and cannot respond to frontline treatments. Leukemia stem cells (LSCs) are implicated in both primary and secondary resistance, and their eradication is necessary to maintain CR. This study examines the role of school connectedness and how racial/ethnic identity in academic outcomes among adolescents/. Guided by the self-determination theory (Ryan & Deci, 2017) and Garcia-Coll et al’s (1996) Integrative Model, it was hypothesized that higher school connectedness predicts higher GPAs, that students whose racial/ethnic identity aligns with their schools’ majority composition experience stronger school connectedness, and the relationship between school connectedness and GPA will be stronger in schools with more matching peers. Participants included 138 youth (M = 14.98, SD = 1.92) from three urban schools (two K-8th; one high school). The sample was 33.3% Hispanic, 23.9% …

Since the fourteenth century, countries have sought to criminalize unhoused individuals by labeling them as "vagrants." Currently, the United States and other countries continue to criminalize acts of sleeping rough, begging, loitering and other vagrancy-type activities that disproportionately target unhoused persons. Despite going through a period of decriminalization in the 1960s and 1970s, these punitive measures were largely reinstated by the 1990s. In the most extreme case, vagrancy criminalization was entrenched in a state's constitution. This study presents the application of time-resolved particle image velocimetry (TR-PIV) to measure the mean and fluctuating velocity components in a turbulent boundary layer (TBL) over an axisymmetric body of revolution. A narrow wall-normal strip of the flow was captured using a synchronised high-speed laser and camera at a recording frequency of up to 80 kHz. The resulting streamwise and wall-normal velocity TR-PIV data were validated against hot-wire anemometry measurements and direct numerical simulations (DNS) of a flat plate under matched flow conditions. ［Objective］ To reduce the phosphorus content in Korean pine seed oil and develop an efficient degumming method.［Methods］ An ultrasound -assisted method was used,and the degumming process of Korean pine seed oil was optimized through orthogonal experiments.The fatty acid composition,content,and antioxidant capacity of the degummed oil were analyzed.［Results］ The optimal degumming conditions for Korean pine seed oil were ultrasonic power of 420 W,degumming temperature of 50 ℃,degumming time of 3.5 h,enzyme dosage of 40 mg/kg,and pH 4.8.Under these conditions,the phosphorus content of the degummed oil was (5.18 ± 0.24) mg/kg,and the proportion of pinolenic acid in total fatty acids was 15.46%.When …

Photopolymerisation induced shrinkage of holographic materials is one of the main factors which needs to be considered for designing holographic optical elements (HOEs) with high accuracy in light redirection with maximum efficiency. This work studies the shrinkage in photopolymerisable hybrid sol-gel (PHSG) by examining the properties of volume transmission gratings recorded in PHSG layers. It explores both the dependence of shrinkage on the holographic grating parameters (thickness, spatial frequency, slant angle) and the effect of material aging. This research investigates the performance of Federated Averaging (FedAvg) in simulated Federated Learning (FL) scenarios with varying degrees of environmental heterogeneity among robotic agents. The study explores the impact of data heterogeneity on both the convergence of FedAvg and the fairness of learning, with regard to consistency of performance across agents. Experiments were conducted with simulated robots trained to perform a target collection task, where a subset of agents encountered an unfamiliar environment. Single-Room Occupancy (SRO) housing is among the most affordable private market housing options and serves tenants who often have multiple oppressed identities, including economic marginalization, carceral histories, and disabling conditions. However, SRO buildings are often sold for redevelopment, displacing tenants with few alternative housing options and at risk of homelessness. Research suggests that multiple ecological factors, such as prior housing instability, predict future homelessness, which may be compounded for individuals with oppressed identities. Thus, the current study explores the housing histories and identities of displaced SRO tenants to understand their vulnerability to post-displacement homelessness.
