Gap junction channels formed by connexins mediate direct intercellular communication and are essential for electrical signaling and tissue homeostasis. Despite their large, solvent-accessible pores, connexin channels exhibit distinct conductance, selectivity, and rectification properties, but the molecular mechanisms underlying these behaviors remain incompletely understood. Here, we performed ~67 μs of all-atom computational electrophysiology simulations of connexin-46 (Cx46), connexin-50 (Cx50), and heterotypic Cx46/50 gap junction channels based on high-resolution open-state structures, enabling characterization of both ion permeation and long-timescale channel dynamics. To overcome the fast oscillatory behavior of correlation functions for extracting scattering phase shift in real-time quantum simulations encountered in the work of Guo et al. [Phys. Rev. D 113, 054512 (2026)], we propose and test two solutions in the present work. One is to simulate Hermitian systems in imaginary time, and the other is to simulate non-Hermitian systems in real time. We demonstrate that both approaches lead to the problem of nonunitary quantum evolution that can be solved by combining two quantum algorithms: block encoding and Hadamard test. Natural killer (NK) cells eliminate transformed and infected cells through activating receptor-mediated cytotoxicity and through recognition of cells that have lost major histocompatibility complex class I (MHC-I) expression, a process termed missing-self recognition. Although missing-self recognition is a central principle of NK-cell biology, the mechanisms that execute missing-self killing remain incompletely understood. In this dissertation, we used complementary genetic and functional approaches to investigate the molecular basis of missing-self killing. We first implemented a CRISPR–Cas9 ribonucleoprotein electroporation platform for efficient genetic manipulation of primary murine NK cells, providing a versatile approach for functional studies of NK-cell biology. This study examines how the state enacts green grabbing through forestry legal instruments and how this process intersects with the existence and cultural acculturation of the Sungai Raya community. How are the moral relations between communities and the Sumatran tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae) being reconfigured as forests fragment and land-use change accelerates across Sumatra's conservation landscape? This article addresses that question ethnographically, drawing on forty semi-structured interviews conducted in Agam and Pasaman Regencies (West Sumatra) between April and June 2026 and interviews with Yayasan SINTAS Indonesia. Background: Discharge delay in resource-constrained Intensive Care Units (ICUs) remains a concerning and persistent challenge, resulting in delayed ICU admissions and after-hours discharges. These delays are associated with adverse patient outcomes and system inefficiency. While centralised patient flow centres and other strategies have been implemented to address these issues, their impact on ICU discharge delays remains unexplored. To improve patient flow, it is essential to explore organisational barriers and facilitators to ICU discharge.

There is much in Jonathan Barlow’s piece that resonates with me. I appreciated how he cites some seminal thinkers like Neil Postman, Jacques Ellul, E.F. Schumacher, and Ivan Illich as he frames his argument. In particular, I think Barlow is insightful in identifying the pitfall of “commensurability” when comparing humans and AI in terms of performance. I am reminded of the words of the famous computer scientist Edsgar Dijkstra, who suggested that the question as to whether machines can think is about as relevant as the question of whether “submarines can swim.”

The Freedom Myth: How Ski Culture's Hidden Conformity Reveals The Unconscious Power Of Brand Belonging, Isabel R. Phillips

Purpose: Ski culture sells freedom and enforces conformity. This review asks what unconscious behavioral patterns hold that contradiction in place, and how brands capitalize on it to manufacture belonging.

Design/Methodology/Approach: A narrative literature review across consumer psychology, behavioral neuroscience, sociology, and ski industry research. No primary data were collected. Four accounts of consistency-seeking are synthesized into one framework, then applied to three ski industry cases at ascending scales and tested against a comparative case from Spanish football.

Findings: Belonging is a conditioned response, and conditioning requires a stable stimulus. Consistency is therefore the precondition of belonging rather than a constraint …

Introduction – Drawing on previous research showing that self- and relationship-defining memories relate to psychological and relational functioning, this study began to explore motherhood-defining memories and their relation to psychological wellbeing and maternal functioning within a parenting program context. The study aimed to examine whether participation contributes to the narrative coherence of motherhood-defining memories. Methods – Participants were 155 mothers from diverse cultural backgrounds (M age = 32.85 years, SD age = 5.20) residing in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Schneiderian inverted papilloma is a benign, locally aggressive tumor that typically arises in the respiratory mucosa of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses. These tumors are often asymptomatic but can cause unilateral nasal obstruction, discharge, hyposmia and epistaxis. They warrant attention particularly due to the potential for malignant transformation. They are treated most often with surgical excision. This case report describes a patient with Schneiderian inverted papilloma arising outside its usual location and managed with definitive radiation therapy instead of surgical excision due to concerns for functional impairment. Genome editing has emerged as a transformative tool to improve crop productivity, resilience, and nutritional quality, helping address global food insecurity. Among gene-editing platforms, clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR)/ Cas systems (notably CRISPR-Cas9) offer simple, efficient, and scalable methods for targeted modifications, including knockouts, base edits, and precise “search-and-replace” prime edits. Plum (Prunus domestica L.) is a nutritionally valuable fruit with significant commercial importance, yet consumer acceptance is often constrained by inconsistent fruit quality. This study investigated the effects of cultivar, training system, and harvest stage on the chemical composition of plum fruit, focusing on polyphenols, organic acids, sugars, and sugar alcohols. Three cultivars (Čačanska lepotica, Stanley, and Empress) were evaluated under different canopy architectures, including plum spindle as a control and novel 2-dimensional systems (Bi axe and upright fruiting offshoot), across multiple ripening stages. Objective: Intimate partner violence is a widespread public health concern, with an estimated 64.2 million U.S. adults affected in their lifetime and significant physical, psychological, and economic consequences. Due to systemic challenges, IPV screening remained inconsistent across an adult primary care clinic serving a predominantly monolingual Spanish-speaking population in the San Francisco Bay Area, with only 4.1% of patients screened across the Adult, Women's, and Teen clinics in June 2026. Aim: This quality improvement project aimed to increase overall IPV screening by 10%, from 4.1% to 14.1%, by July 31, 2026. Methods: Standardization efforts included introducing a …

Media and Information Literacy (MIL) has become increasingly important as education responds to an increasingly complex information environment, yet less is known about how teachers experience and make sense of teaching it, particularly in resource-constrained contexts. Guided by Gadamerian hermeneutic phenomenology, this study explored the lived communicative experiences of seven Senior High School teachers from five peri-urban public schools in the Southern Philippines. In-depth interviews revealed three interconnected, culturally situated meanings: pagsugakod (carrying on amid uncertainty), pagtagad (attentive responsibility), and pagkabalaka (ongoing concern). Purpose: Automated treatment planning systems (ATPS) are critical for improving plan consistency and efficiency. This study evaluated the implementation and performance of the Pareto optimal projection search algorithm (POPSA), a proprietary rule-based algorithm (RBA) in prostate site. The RBA's performance was benchmarked against established knowledge-based planning (KBP) and deep learning (DL) dose prediction tools.

Purpose: This study aimed to compare dosimetric characteristics and treatment delivery efficiency between 6-MV Flattening Filter (FF) and Flattening Filter-Free (FFF) photon beams for adrenal Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT). While FFF beams have demonstrated dosimetric and efficiency advantages at other SBRT sites, there is limited data about their use in adrenal SBRT.

Methods and Materials: A retrospective dosimetric comparison was performed using 10 patients previously treated with adrenal SBRT.
