For the explosion-proof weak points at the end of the intermediate joint of high-voltage cables, an optimization design method for the end of the explosion-proof copper shell was proposed. By using a finite element calculation method coupling the temperature field, displacement field, and flow field, the stress concentration factor K at the copper shell end of the joint under different deflection angles α was calculated; then, under the deflection angle with the minimum stress concentration factor, a circularization and copper shell thickness coordination design was conducted. Tulip contacts are widely used in power systems due to their high reliability. However, with the increase of operation years and the cyclic variation of boundary loads, their contact parts are prone to degradation, leading to overheating faults. A linear quadratic regulator (LQR) optimized based on the genetic algorithm (GA) was designed to suppress power oscillations in a virtual synchronous generator (VSG) under external disturbances. A state-feedback LQR controller was designed by establishing a small-signal model of the VSG power loop. To optimize the control performance, the GA was used to perform offline optimization of the weight-matrix parameters of LQR. The weight-optimized LQR control law was applied to the fractional-order VSG. Metal particle discharge and mechanical faults inside gas insulated switchgear (GIS) are key factors affecting its safety performance. These faults can be detected and identified using the ultrasonic and vibration signals generated by them. Simulated experiments of four types of particle discharge, normal operation, and flange bolt loosening were designed on a GIS platform, and the time-frequency domain characteristics of the signals were analyzed. To address the problems of asymmetric arm operation and fundamental and second-harmonic circulating currents caused by submodule faults in a modular multilevel converter (MMC) under hot standby in a flexible direct current system, a fault-tolerant control strategy coordinated by an improved PIR circulating current control and an inner-loop current sliding mode control is proposed. By introducing a three-parameter notch filter to precisely separate the circulating current components, the improved PIR control achieves the coordinated suppression of fundamental and second-harmonic harmonics. A secondary frequency regulation control strategy and an economic evaluation method that accounts for active state-of-charge (SOC) recovery were proposed for energy storage stations to improve their frequency regulation performance and cost-effectiveness in secondary frequency regulation. First, the control principles of large-scale energy storage stations in secondary frequency regulation were described, and their power support requirements were analyzed. With the large-scale application of battery energy storage in diverse power system scenarios, the matching of energy storage battery selection with scenario requirements becomes an important issue in power system energy storage planning. Chronic post-surgical pain (CPSP) is a common and often overlooked complication following surgical correction of idiopathic scoliosis, impacting long-term patient wellbeing despite improvements in surgical outcomes. This project introduces a novel epidemiological framework to model the progression of CPSP using a compartmental structure. By applying a coupled system of nonlinear differential equations, we simulate pain trajectories over time and assess the effectiveness of surgical interventions. The model is implemented for a single-cohort population and extended to a two-cohort design to compare outcomes between Posterior Spinal Fusion (PSIF) and Vertebral Body Tethering (VBT) procedures. Enzymatic electrochemistry harnesses the selectivity of enzymes to enable electrochemical applications spanning sensing, synthesis, and energy conversion. However, the sequential nature of electroanalytical experiments limits throughput, restricting the scale at which enzyme-electrode systems can be screened. Here we demonstrate the capabilities of an automated electrochemistry platform, eLab, to increase the throughput of enzymatic electrochemistry investigations. We used the eLab to collect over 10,000 cyclic voltammograms across a large parameter space consisting of two enzyme variants (promiscuous and wild-type glucose oxidase), 20 saccharide substrates, 21 concentrations, and four scan rates, with measurements being made all in triplicate. This dissertation evaluates the economic performance and adoption potential of climate-smart irrigation practices in Louisiana rice production systems, with particular emphasis on Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD). Rice producers in the U.S. Mid-South face increasing challenges associated with rising input costs, water management constraints, and climate variability, creating interest in production practices that improve resilience and resource-use efficiency.

The first component of this study analyzes the profitability and risk efficiency of alternative irrigation systems using stochastic simulation and Stochastic Efficiency with Respect to a Function (SERF). Climate variability is a major source of risk to U.S. crop production, disrupting planting schedules and threatening yields. While prior research has explored the implications of weather shocks on crop yields, this study investigates the indirect channel via which weather variability impacts corn yield through planting delays in the U.S. Previous research has shown that U.S. corn production is highly vulnerable to short-term climate variability (Hu & Buyanovsky, 2003). Background: Hypoglossal nerve stimulation (HNS) is an established surgical therapy for adults with moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) who are intolerant to positive airway pressure. Although aggregate response rates of ~70–80% have been reported, substantial variability across clinical settings remains poorly understood. Prior meta-analyses have largely emphasized pooled continuous outcomes, limiting interpretation of responder-based endpoints and drivers of between-study heterogeneity. Background: Mentorship plays a formative role in undergraduate medical education (UME) From shaping professional outcomes to developing longitudinal personal relationships, various forms of mentorship can influence student progress meaningfully, particularly for students from underrepresented or marginalized backgrounds. Though faculty-student mentorship has been readily investigated, limited knowledge exists regarding peer-peer mentorship structures, particularly within UME in the American medical education model. Objective: Georgia has one of the highest prevalences of sickle cell disease (SCD). For Georgians living with SCD, inadequate medication adherence is associated with important clinical outcomes. One important area that is understudied in SCD is the impact of social determinants of health (SDoH) on medication adherence. A foundational understanding of SDoH is needed to introduce, inform and carry out programs and interventions designed to facilitate hydroxyurea adherence through the state of Georgia.

Neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) are associated with impairments in communication, behavior, and social interaction, making accurate diagnosis clinically challenging. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), a major NDD, often exhibits atypical speech patterns characterized by altered prosody and reduced emotional expressiveness. The study proposes a hybrid dual-path framework for ASD detection from emotional speech using two strategies: PCA–GMM-based acoustic modeling and a CNN–BiLSTM–Attention architecture for spectral–temporal feature learning. The proposed framework captures probabilistic, spectral, and temporal speech characteristics for robust ASD classification. For students with or at risk of Emotional and Behavioral Disorders (EBD), achieving success in school is challenged by a continuous cycle of behavioral and academic challenges. This literature review examined the role of student-teacher relationships in influencing both behavioral and academic outcomes for this student population. This review synthesized the findings of 15 peer-reviewed, original research studies that utilized qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods approaches to capture behavioral metrics and participant perspectives.
