Water conditions are changing globally due to climate change (Gleick, 1989). Headwater streams specifically are vulnerable to changes in hydrology, water quality, and physical characteristics from anthropogenic practices due to their small watersheds with shallow soils, yet they are often not a priority in conservation (Campbell et al., 2011; Abell et al., 2017). Within streams, plethodontid (i.e., lungless) salamanders, which are also sensitive to environmental changes, may be restricted in their distribution due to undefined stream characteristics and predation by fish (Welsh and Droege, 2002; Kuhajda et al., 2015). This research studies the effects of algorithmic automation on social mappings. Using "Balboa Observa" project, a collaborative web mapping initiative that documents Observatorio Music Festival in Spain, the study explores the interaction between collective cartography, ethnographic analysis, and AIdriven data processing. For decades, in the summertime, America has confined certain of its youth in what are essentially open-air heat camps. In city after city, camp-form is established through the enactment of warm-weather juvenile curfews which keep the youth at home or in state-sponsored centers during summer nights and, increasingly, during days as well. Local governments justify these curfews with general notions of “public safety,” including to protect the youth they confine. But the laws are not benevolent. Reducing youth mobility by curfew results in exclusion, oversurveillance, and potentially lethal heat punishment of the youth, possibly in violation of the Eighth Amendment. …

This essay describes the Atmospheric Trust Litigation (ATL) campaign, spearheaded by Our Children’s Trust, consisting of climate cases brought by youth premised on the public trust principle and, later, on express constitutional rights. The essay characterizes the cases as (1) accomplishing a “rights turn” in environmental law by invoking constitutional claims rather than statutory claims that previously marked almost all environmental litigation; (2) establishing a unified global framework of climate responsibility by depicting the planet’s atmosphere as a global public trust asset which all governments have an obligation to protect; and (3) galvanizing a youth climate movement centered on the …

Children and youth have been engaging extensively in climate action around the world. They have been doing this by protesting in the streets, talking with governments, and most recently by taking climate litigation against governments and companies. In this Article, these climate cases are considered from a children’s rights perspective. Using the Youth Climate Justice database, fifty cases are analyzed to consider two aspects of climate litigation—the children’s rights involved in the case, and the significance of the outcomes of the cases. In today’s post-Dobbs world, states may freely define fetal “persons” and those fundamental rights afforded to them, but not without consequence. The Supreme Court of Alabama’s groundbreaking decision in LePage v. Center for Reproductive Medicine, P.C., holding that frozen embryos are “children” under the Wrongful Death of a Minor Act, led fertility clinics and services across the state to close. These in vitro fertilization (IVF) providers feared liability exposure because their standard practices—including embryonic fertilization, testing, cryopreservation, and transfer—inevitably result in damage or death to embryos. The rise of short-form video platforms like TikTok, driven by algorithmic recommendations, fosters immersive flow experiences. While users value personalization and engagement, they also seek greater agency over their For You recommendations. This paper designs, prototypes, and evaluates TKGPT, an LLM-enhanced conversational interface that helps users articulate their interests and understand recommendations. Through qualitative interviews and a user study, we examine how the TKGPT influences algorithmic folk theories and the sense of agency. Background: Both air pollution and socioeconomic status (SES) are recognized as significant determinants of health outcomes. However, no study has explored the combined effects of air pollutants and SES on (1) age-related macular degeneration (AMD) incidence; (2) trajectories from baseline to AMD, subsequent ocular comorbidity (OCMD), and mortality; and (3) life expectancy in middle-aged and older adults.

Methods: Using UK Biobank data, we created two composite air pollution scores (APS) and assessed SES at individual and neighborhood levels. OCMD was defined as glaucoma or cataract occurrence after AMD diagnosis. Cox proportional hazard regression models, multistate models, and life tables were …

Ten adalimumab biosimilars have been introduced in the United States (USA) since 2023, while adalimumab biosimilars have been available for several years in other countries. These experiences of biosimilar uptake outside the USA can inform US-based healthcare professionals on switching in real-life practice settings. Aims: To evaluate treatment failure of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) among adults with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and assess associated risk factors and clinical and economic outcomes in the real-world setting.

Methods: Adults with T2D who initiated SGLT2i were selected from the Komodo's Healthcare Map, an administrative claims database (2016-2024). Treatment failure was defined as discontinuation, add-on/switching, or uncontrolled glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) without action. Risk factors, treatment patterns, and clinical and economic burden were assessed.

Results: Among 237,295 eligible adults, the overall rate of treatment failure with SGLT2i was 77.3 %, with a median time to failure of 9.14 …

Methane is a potent greenhouse gas and critical energy source for the global economy. Atmospheric methane concentrations play a critical role in global warming, while mitigating methane emissions may provide route to short-term reduction of warming effects. In order to track rates and sources of emissions, it is first necessary to understand the sources and sinks of methane; yet, there are challenges in distinguishing abiotic (water/rock), thermogenic, and biogenic methane.
