[Objective] To achieve high -precision detection of beef mince adulterated with pea protein,duck mince,chicken mince,and pork mince by combining hyperspectral technology with sparse hyperspectral feature selection.[Methods] The original spectral data of the beef mince samples is extracted and processed using standard normal variable transformation (SNV ),multiplicative scatter correction (MSC ),first -order differential (D1),and moving average (MA) preprocessing methods.A hyperspectral feature selection algorithm is designed based on sparse representation.This algorithm constructs a sparse dimensionality reduction framework and uses swarm intelligence optimization to optimize and solve the objective function of spectral feature selection.The spectral data dimensionality is reduced as much as possible …

[Objective] To develop a label -free and visual colorimetric assay for the rapid detection of bisphenol A (BPA ) using a BPA aptamer as the recognition molecule and metal -organic framework (Fe-MIL -101) nanozyme mimics as the signal probe.[Methods] The BPA aptamer was added to the Fe -MIL -101 solution,where it was adsorbed onto the Fe -MIL -101 surface through electrostatic interactions,thereby inhibiting the activity of nanozyme mimics.In the presence of BPA in the test sample,the aptamer specifically binds to BPA and detaches from the Fe -MIL -101 surface,restoring the catalytic activity of Fe -MIL -101.This enables Fe -MIL -101 …

[Objective] To prepare metal complexes of biochanin A (BA) and explore their biological activities.[Methods] Biochanin A was used as the ligand to design and synthesize biochanin A -copper (BA-Cu),biochanin A -zinc (BA-Zn),and biochanin A -chromium (BA-Cr) metal complexes.The structures of the complexes were characterized using methods such as ultraviolet spectroscopy and infrared spectroscopy.The antioxidant activities of the three biochanin A metal complexes were evaluated using the phosphomolybdate complex method,and their anticancer activities were assessed using the CCK -8 assay.[Results]] The experiments successfully prepared the three biochanin A metal complexes,i.e.,BA-Cu,BA-Zn,and BA -Cr.All three metal complexes exhibited good antioxidant activities,which were higher …

Xylo -oligosaccharides are functional oligosaccharides with prebiotic activity derived from lignocellulosic biomass.They possess excellent physicochemical properties and physiological functions,such as regulating the intestinal microecological balance and preventing cardiovascular diseases,and have been widely applied in the food,pharmaceutical,and other industries.This paper mainly reviews the latest progress in the hydrothermal preparation of xylo -oligosaccharides and subsequent purification methods,such as solvent extraction,adsorption,membrane separation,and chromatographic separation,and provides an outlook on their future development.

The fruits of Panax species can serve as raw materials for functional foods and as resources for drug development.Their extracts have achieved preliminary translational applications in the fields of health food and medicine,demonstrating market potential.This article selects five Panax species commonly used in clinical practice,including P.ginseng C.A.Mey.,P.quinquefolium L.,P.notoginseng (Burk.) BACKGROUND: Cancer cells uptake excessive nutrients by expressing higher levels of glucose and/or amino acid transporters to meet their increased energy demands. L-type amino acid transporter 1 (LAT1), is regarded as a cancer-specific transporter for the uptake of large neutral amino acids such as L-tryptophan. However, the mechanism by which LAT1 rewires cellular metabolism to promote cancer progression and chemoresistance have not yet been investigated.

Splicing is a complex process that is required to create the transcriptomic diversity needed for specialized functions in higher eukaryotes. The spliceosome contains more than 100 proteins and RNA molecules, which coordinate this dynamic process. Despite the ubiquity of splicing, pathogenic variants in spliceosomal components often cause a tissue-specific phenotype, hinting at further complexities that are not yet fully understood. We have identified a cohort of ten families with de novo missense variants in a spliceosomal component, CRNKL1, where nine individuals harbor one of two missense variants that both affect the same amino acid, Arg267. As organisms age, somatic stem cells progressively lose their ability to sustain tissue homeostasis and support regeneration. Although stem cells are relatively shielded from some cellular aging mechanisms compared with their differentiated progeny, they remain vulnerable to both intrinsic and extrinsic stressors. In this review, we delineate five cardinal features that characterize aged stem cells and examine how these alterations underlie functional decline across well-studied stem cell compartments. These hallmarks not only provide insight into the aging process but also serve as promising targets for therapeutic strategies aimed at rejuvenating stem cell function and extending tissue health span.

Farmers and business owners are concerned about the sustainability of their farm operations, which is essential for achieving profitability. Despite extensive efforts to optimize the single-step production of syngas, hydrocarbons, and oxygenates via plasma catalysis, several challenges remain unresolved. In particular, understanding the various reaction pathways is hindered by the complexity of the reactions and the diverse range of chemical products formed. In this study, our main objective is to evaluate and compare the influence of zirconia on reaction pathways, methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) conversions (%), and syngas selectivity (%) relative to the plasma-only route. Laterality defects are defined by perturbations in the usual left-right asymmetry of organs. The genetic etiology that underlies congenital heart disease (CHD) is often unknown (less than 40%), so we used a digenic model approach for the identification of contributing variants in known laterality-defect-associated genes (n = 115) in the exome/genome sequencing (ES/GS) data from individuals with clinically diagnosed laterality defects. Killing tumors while leaving normal cells unharmed is the goal of precision cancer therapy, a challenging feat that is enabled by targeting tumor-specific vulnerabilities [1]. Targeting Polθ potentiates PARP inhibitors (PARPi) in specifically killing homology-directed repair (HDR)-deficient tumor cells and re-sensitize PARPi resistant tumor cells [1]. OBJECTIVE: To compare the impact of upper versus lower lumbar decompression on patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs).
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients undergoing L1-L2, L2-L3, L4-L5, or L5-S1 single-level elective decompression with 1-year PROMs were identified. Included PROMs were the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), visual analog scale (VAS) back and leg, and Short Form-12 physical (PCS) and mental (MCS) component scores. Minimal clinically important differences (MCID) were calculated. Multivariable regressions assessed the independent predictive ability of operative level controlling for demographic confounders.

BACKGROUND: Anemia is a risk factor for increased transfusions. However, various definitions of anemia have been described in scientific literature and a consensus on how to appropriately diagnose anemia or who to preoperatively optimize is lacking. We aimed to compare multiple anemia definitions and evaluate if any threshold best predicts transfusion requirements and surgical outcomes following spinal fusion.

Restricted Environmental Stimulation Therapy (REST) is a therapeutic technique that involves immersing an individual in an environment with minimal sensory input or stimulation. The goal of REST is to induce a state of relaxation that is deeper than what can be achieved through other forms of relaxation techniques. Research suggests that REST can help reduce anxiety, alleviate chronic pain, improve sleep, and enhance creativity and cognitive function. Although research underscores the importance of having women on boards, the problem is that women remain disproportionately underrepresented in boardrooms, even in countries with mandatory quota laws. The purpose of this qualitative case study was to explore shareholders’ perceptions and attitudes on recruiting female board members to serve at financial institutions in the Caribbean. The agency and critical mass theories grounded this study. The participants comprised 10 shareholders, five of whom were current board members. Data were collected using semistructured interviews. The purpose of this quantitative, cross-sectional study was to examine whether social determinants interactively influence U.S. maternal and infant mortality rates. Grounded in the Social Ecological Model, this study analyzed secondary data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Vital Statistics System were analyzed using multivariable logistic regression. The final sample included 110,402 maternal deaths and 55,839 infant deaths, with inclusion criteria requiring complete data on race, education, age, marital status, gender (for infants), residency, and year of death. Exclusion criteria included non-U.S. resident deaths or missing demographic data. Results revealed statistically significant interaction effects: race/ethnicity with education …
