Emotional Intelligence Deficits And Behavioral Escalation Among Justice-Involved Populations, Aleasa M. Word

This capstone examined the relationship between deficits in emotional intelligence and behavioral escalation among justice-involved populations, who frequently demonstrated challenges with emotional regulation, impulse control, aggression, and behavioral escalation. However, many correctional interventions, including traditional anger management programming, emphasized behavioral compliance rather than the underlying emotional processing deficiencies that contributed to these behaviors. This project synthesized existing peer-reviewed literature from psychology, criminology, forensic behavioral health, and correctional rehabilitation research to examine how low levels of emotional awareness, emotional regulation, empathy, and interpersonal functioning are associated with aggression, recidivism, and escalating behaviors. For species extirpated from the wild, ex situ breeding programs are essential for providing the individuals necessary for re-establishing wild populations through reintroductions. However, repeated exposure to humans under managed care may reduce wariness and alter behavioral responses in ways that are maladaptive after release. Although some pre-release behaviors reflect natural responses essential for survival and reproduction, others may result from habituation to humans and increase the risk of conflict, recapture, or mortality following translocation. Unplanned conversion from labor epidural analgesia to general anesthesia (GA) for cesarean delivery is associated with increased maternal and neonatal risk and may occur when inadequate epidural function is not recognized before operative delivery. This Doctor of Nursing Anesthesia Practice quality improvement project evaluated implementation of the Epic Epidural Assessment Event, a structured electronic medical record documentation tool designed to standardize epidural assessment during labor at a high-acuity obstetric referral center in Western Pennsylvania. Postpartum hemorrhage is a leading cause of preventable maternal morbidity and mortality and requires rapid, coordinated response among obstetric, anesthesia, nursing, and blood-bank teams. This quality improvement project implemented and evaluated a California Maternal Quality Care Collaborative (CMQCC)-based Code OB maternal hemorrhage intervention at a western Pennsylvania hospital. The project aimed to improve anesthesia provider knowledge, confidence, and readiness to recognize, stage, and respond to maternal hemorrhage using standardized guidance, quantitative blood loss (QBL) measurement, and point-of-care cognitive support. In this Article 78 proceeding, landlords and owners of rent-stabilized homes sought a judicial order annulling the Rent Guidelines Board's (RGB) Apartment & Loft Order #58, claiming it was arbitrary and capricious. The court granted the City of New York's motion to transfer venue from Richmond County to New York County, holding that under CPLR 506(b), venue turns on where the material events took place — i.e., where the RGB deliberated, voted, and arrived at the challenged decision — which was New York County. Objective: To characterize feasibility, tolerability, and patient-reported outcomes after a 10-session full-body red and near-infrared photobiomodulation (PBM) protocol for musculoskeletal pain in a predominantly Hispanic/ Latino community sample.

Background: PBM is a non-pharmacological intervention with potential analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. Evidence from community-based and Hispanic/Latino populations remains limited, and full-body LED protocols are incompletely standardized.

In this paper, we introduce a new class of dynamical systems, Proximal Dispersive Group Spaces (PDG - spaces), to study the structure of topological group actions. In these spaces, we observe a mixture of two different behaviors: points come close to each other (proximal convergence) under some group elements, while remaining separated (dispersive separation) under others. This framework generalizes the classical theory to allow for selective convergence without global asymptotic collapse. Using single-cell transcriptomics of bronchoalveolar lavage cells from Mtb/SIV co-infected rhesus macaques on cART, we reveal profound immune dysregulation during early SIV co-infection of latent tuberculosis. SIV induces a sharp decline in CD4+ T cells, NK, and NKT cells, with incomplete recovery of Mtb-specific TH1 effector responses despite viral suppression. Instead, a persistent TH17-skewed environment emerges, alongside sustained myeloid inflammation driven by Type I interferon signaling and pro-inflammatory regulators such as KLF6 and NFKB1. Ligand-receptor network analyses demonstrate expanded CD4+ T cell-macrophage crosstalk and loss of immune homeostasis that cART fails to fully restore. These findings expose …

Purpose: SMARCB1-deficient renal medullary carcinoma (RMC) is an ultra-rare, lethal malignancy refractory to therapies approved for other renal cell carcinomas, and its rarity makes randomized trials logistically unfeasible. We investigated whether wild-type epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) is a therapeutically actionable dependency in RMC and translated this insight into a deployable clinical regimen.

Experimental design: EGFR expression was assessed by CLIA-certified immunohistochemistry in RMC tumors and by integrated RNA- and chromatin immunoprecipitation-sequencing of primary tumors and adjacent kidney. Background: Post-traumatic soft tissue injuries cause pain, functional impairment, and long-term disability. Current treatments often lead to excessive fibrosis and scar formation, compromising tissue function and increasing the risk of re-injury. Central cord syndrome (CCS) is the most common form of incomplete cervical spinal cord injury (SCI), yet its optimal management remains controversial. We examined whether stratifying CCS by injury stability improves treatment assessment. CCS was defined as an American Spinal Injury Association Impairment Scale (AIS) C/D cervical SCI with a ≥5-point lower-upper extremity motor score difference and classified as CCS-stable (CCS-S) or -unstable (CCS-U) based on the absence or presence of fracture/dislocation. Functional recovery at 1 year was assessed using the functional independence measure (FIM) motor score. Among 291 patients, 131 (45%) had CCS-S. These patients were older and more …

In May 1993, General Béla Király was decorated Righteous among the Nations in Yad Vashem for protecting the lives of a Jewish labor company in the winter of 1943–1944 in the rear of the front in Proskurov, Ukraine. His recognition was based on false testimonies by veteran labor servicemen who were unaware that, during the winter of 1944–1945, Király, then a high-ranking official in the fascist Arrow Cross Ministry of Defense in Kőszeg, failed to respond to the suffering of 5,000 Jewish labor servicemen, of whom 2,500 died.
