Optimization And Simulation Of Adaptive Production Scheduling Based On Hybrid Decision-Making Mechanism, Zhicheng Ji, Zhen Quan, Yan Wang

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: To optimize flexible production scheduling with the objectives of the longest makespan, mean tardiness, and bottleneck machine processing load rate, a hybrid decision-making mechanism scheduling algorithm was proposed based on the decision complexity and constraint characteristics of machine assignment and task sequencing. The algorithm adopted a two-dimensional chromosome to encode machine assignment and a heuristic rule to evaluate task sequencing priority, enhancing the adaptability of the method to decision-making optimization. In order to further improve the performance of the proposed scheduling method, an adaptive rule strategy was designed based on the distribution of processing time required for waiting scheduling …

Combat-Oriented Comprehensive Simulation And Verification Technology For Equipment System Rms, Yue Zhang, Wenliang Zhang, Qiang Feng, Xing Guo, Yi Ren, Zili Wang

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract:Existing reliability maintainability supportability (RMS) simulation and verification methods for equipment systems are typically conducted under standard conditions and suffer from weak combat environments and task modeling capabilities. To address this limitation, a multi-agent RMS simulation and verification framework was proposed. Key breakthroughs included agent modeling techniques for complex environments and variable tasks, interaction mechanisms among environmental agents, task agents, equipment, and support systems, and a simulation-based comprehensive RMS evaluation method. Case studies demonstrate that the proposed method effectively models complex environments and variable tasks, supports combat-oriented simulation and verification and design scheme evaluation, and meets combat-ready development requirements.

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: To further improve the execution efficiency of remote sensing satellites, an integrated optimization framework combining adaptive large neighborhood search (ALNS) and a constraint programming-boolean satisfiability problem (CP-SAT) solver monitor was proposed, addressing the challenges of complex constraints, dynamic scale, and resource heterogeneity in multi-scenario multi-satellite mission planning. A unified multi-objective mixed-integer programming model was established, coupling heterogeneous constraints of point targets and area tasks. A time-domain rolling mechanism dynamically decomposed the problem scale, and a priority screening strategy enhanced the search efficiency of ALNS. Solution feasibility was verified in real time through the CP-SAT monitor. Results show that compared …

Dynamic Data Driven Simulation Based On Macro-Microscopic Hierarchical Simulation Models, Xu Xie, Yuqing Ma

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract:This paper proposed a dynamic data driven simulation approach based on macro-microscopic hierarchical simulation models. This approach enabled the measurement data from the real system to affect the macroscopic simulation and microscopic simulation in sequence and made the two simulations evolve together so that it could provide decision makers with the state evolution prediction of the real system at the macroscopic level to assist decision making and provide a microscopic testbed similar to the real system, on which decision makers could deduce and evaluate their strategies. This paper established a formal description of the approach and designed a data …

Research On High-Performance Optimization Methods For Fastdds In Heterogeneous Real-Time Simulation, Congping Liu, Wei Song, Jian Fang, Fei Liu

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract:FastDDS faces limitations under high-frequency data streams, such as lock contention, performance overhead from frequent context switching, and configuration complexity of multiple nodes under strict real-time constraints, which affect the experimental efficiency. This paper proposed a performance optimization method based on a batch-scalable circular queue (BSCQ). The approach replaced the traditional mutex mechanism with a lock-free algorithm to reduce lock contention and avoid deadlocks, while batch processing improved data locality, cache hit rates, and memory utilization, effectively reducing data transmission delay and improving system throughput. Hazard pointers were introduced to ensure safe memory management during batch processing and eliminate …

Reflections On Innovative Approaches To Autonomous Simulation Software, Feng Tian

Journal of System Simulation

Abstract: Given China's weak foundation in simulation software, simply replicating the development paths of these global leading companies offers limited potential for leapfrog development. Based on an analysis of pitfalls in the independent innovation of domestic simulation software, this paper proposed and elaborated on six strategic approaches: avoiding established paths, aligning with national realities, pursuing extreme performance, leveraging special needs to advance technology, building new systems from the ground up, and embracing artificial intelligence (AI)-native architectures. These strategies aim to provide new perspectives for the independent innovation and development of domestic simulation software.

Is Inequity In Nba Team Salaries Hurting Team Performance?, Alec R. Plante

Business and Economics Summer Fellows

The NBA is known for being the premier basketball league. However, are the allegedly best minds in the sport choosing salaries in a way that contributes to success? Our research extrapolates trends between team equity and win rates. We use Gini coefficients to establish team equities across the league between the 2011-2012 and 2024-2025 seasons. Our research establishes a relationship between team equity and win rates. This suggests that more equitable teams, in relation to held constant variables like All-NBA selections, may be more successful compared to other teams. We speculate on the reasons for this effect, including the possibility …

The Art Of Memory: The Medieval Peutinger Map, Amber Shrewsbury Jul 2025

The Art Of Memory: The Medieval Peutinger Map, Amber Shrewsbury

Dissertations and Theses

The Peutinger map is an enigma: a twelfth-century map of the Roman Empire, it is secular and oddly shaped, its dimensions distorted to show Rome at the center of the world. Its creator, purpose, and provenance currently remain lost to history. Long considered by classicists to be a copy of a lost Roman original, the map has not been seriously examined by medievalists, possibly because it does not adhere to the Christian "T-O" style of medieval mappaemundi.

While other scholars have focused on what the Peutinger map reflects about ancient Rome, I have chosen to explore how the Peutinger …

I, As In We, Cj Maruyama Jul 2025

I, As In We, Cj Maruyama

Dissertations and Theses

I, as in We is a hybrid collection of poems, essays, fictional letters, documents, and photographs through which the author revisits ancestors and explores their multiracial roots. Drawing on stories, interviews and research grounded in the Japanese American experience, the collection develops a call-and-response polyvocality that spans generations and geographies. In its use of white space, form experimentation, and tonal shifts, the work confronts the fluid, often ambiguous boundaries that shape identity. The compiled written and visual materials evolve into an original document--one that reaches toward heritage, belonging, and truth.

Animal and Food Sciences Faculty Publications

While past research has predominantly focused on the role of myoglobin in meat color, investigations into the contributions of hemoglobin and cytochrome c are limited. Cytochrome c has the highest redox stability (P < 0.05), followed by myoglobin and hemoglobin. Electrochemistry analysis revealed that cytochrome c has a greater capacity (P < 0.05) to reduce than myoglobin and hemoglobin. Differential scanning calorimetry indicates that cytochrome c was most stable to heat (P < 0.05), while no differences were noted between myoglobin and hemoglobin. Structural analysis noted that greater heat and redox stability of cytochrome c might be attributed to fewer histidine residues (3) and more covalent bonds (4) than myoglobin (13), hemoglobin α (10), and hemoglobin β (6). This study suggests that the amino acid sequence and number of covalent bonds can impact the redox stability and heat-induced denaturation properties of myoglobin, hemoglobin, and cytochrome c.

The universally conserved α-oxoaldehydes glyoxal (GO) and methylglyoxal (MGO) are toxic metabolic byproducts whose accumulation can lead to cell death. In the absence of a known, natural inducer of the GO-specific response in prokaryotes, we exploited RNA-seq to define a GO response in the bacterial pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The highest upregulated operon consisted of the known glyoxalase (gloA2) and an antibiotic monooxygenase (ABM) domain of unknown function - renamed here Aldehyde responsive quorum-sensing Inhibitor (ArqI). The arqI-gloA2 operon is highly specific to GO induction and ArqI protein responds by migrating to the flagellar pole. An ArqI atomic structure revealed several …

Background: Obesity and underweight are increasingly common among young adult women, often resulting from complex interactions between diet, lifestyle, and socioeconomic factors. This study addresses that gap by applying machine learning to a wide range of behavioral, dietary, and demographic data. The main research question asks: What are the key factors influencing weight status among female university students, and how accurately can machine learning models identify them? We hypothesize that different factors are significantly associated with underweight, overweight, and obesity, and that machine learning can reliably detect these patterns. The aim is to identify the strongest predictors and support more …

The court reversed a Civil Court order regarding the calculation of attorneys' fees in an HP action. The lower court awarded fees based on the rates for 18-b assigned counsel, but the Appellate Term held that legal services organizations are entitled to fees based on the prevailing market rate in the community, regardless of their nonprofit status. The case was remitted to the lower court for a new hearing to determine a reasonable fee award based on the correct standard, citing precedent that nonprofit counsel should be valued the same as private attorneys.

The court reversed a lower court's dismissal of a tenant's illegal lockout petition, ordering restoration of possession. The tenant, a lawful occupant, was locked out of her apartment after the tenant of record died. The lower court had applied the "doctrine of futility, " reasoning that since the occupant had no possessory rights, it would have been pointless for the landlord to commence a summary proceeding. The appellate court rejected this, ruling that the doctrine of futility is no longer valid after the Housing Stability and Tenant Protection Act of 2019 (HSTPA), which grants lawful occupants the right to due …

Image-Based Inference Of Tumor Cell Trajectories Enables Large-Scale Cancer Progression Analysis, Yang Liu, Ling Cai, Ruichen Rong, Shidan Wang, Liwei Jia, Peiran Quan, Qin Zhou, Guanghua Xiao, Yang Xie

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications

Current approaches to estimating cell trajectories, tumor progression dynamics, and cell population diversity of tumor microenvironment often depend on single-cell RNA sequencing, which is costly and resource intensive. To address this limitation, we developed an artificial intelligence (AI) model that leverages cell morphology features and histological spatial organization to classify tumor cell differentiation status, infer cell dynamic trajectories, and quantify tumor progression from hematoxylin and eosin (H&E)-stained whole-slide images. In three independent lung adenocarcinoma cohorts, our AI-based model accurately predicted cell differential status and provided quantifiable measures of tumor progression that were prognostic of patient survival. Spatial transcriptomic integrative analyses …

Electrochemical Immunosensor Using Cooh-Functionalized 3d Graphene Electrodes For Sensitive Detection Of Tau-441 Protein, S. Nazir, M. Dogan, Y. Wei, G. Pan

School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics

Early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is essential for effective treatment; however current diagnostic methods are often complex, costly, and unsuitable for point-of-care testing. Graphene-based biosensors offer an alternative due to their affordability, versatility, and high conductivity. However, graphene’s conductivity can be compromised when its carbon lattice is oxidized to introduce functional groups for biomolecule immobilization. This study addresses this challenge by developing an electrochemical immunosensor using carboxyl-modified commercial graphene foam (COOH-GF) electrodes. The conductivity of graphene is preserved by enabling efficient COOH modification through π–π non-covalent interactions, while antibody immobilization is optimized via EDC-NHS carbodiimide chemistry. The immunosensor detects …

A Two-Stage Dual-Task Learning Strategy For Early Prediction Of Pathological Complete Response To Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy For Breast Cancer Using Dynamic Contrast-Enhanced Magnetic Resonance Images, Bowen Jing, Jing Wang

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications

Early prediction of treatment response can facilitate personalized treatment for breast cancer patients. Studies on the I-SPY 2 clinical trial demonstrate that multi-time point dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance (DCEMR) imaging improves the accuracy of predicting pathological complete response (pCR) to chemotherapy. However, previous image-based prediction models usually rely on mid- or post-treatment images to ensure the accuracy of prediction, which may outweigh the benefit of response-based adaptive treatment strategy. Accurately predicting the pCR at the early time point is desired yet remains challenging. To improve prediction accuracy at the early time point of treatment, we proposed a two-stage dual-task learning …

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications

Pulmonary capillary endothelial cells (ECs) consist of two populations, CAP1 and CAP2; how each population reacts to diverse tissue injury is incompletely understood. Using single-cell multiome and mouse genetics, we characterize the induction and function of a truncated isoform of Ntrk2, Ntrk2-T1, in multiple lung injury models. Upon Sendai parainfluenza infection, Ntrk2-T1 is broadly induced in CAP1s after the initial interferon response, associated with increased intronic chromatin accessibility, and persists for weeks. Ntrk2-T1 ECs arise from CAP1s but not CAP2s-traced by

Type I interferons are secreted in response to various stimuli and are used as a treatment for many diseases, including infections with the hepatitis B virus (HBV) and its satellite virus, hepatitis delta (HDV). HDV significantly aggravates HBV-mediated liver damage and is - in contrast to HBV - a strong inducer of interferon responses, including IFN-β. As the role of IFN- β in liver metabolism is so far ill explored, we studied its impact on hepatocyte metabolism in HDV-infected cultures. Transcriptome analysis, isotope tracing and functional tests on differentiated, HDV-infected hepatocytes showed reduction of mitochondrial TCA cycle and respiratory activity …

Background: Anxiety disorders may partly stem from altered neurodevelopment of attention-related networks. Neonatal alterations in resting-state functional connectivity (rsFC) among the dorsal attention network (DAN), frontoparietal network (FPN), salience network (SN), and default mode network (DMN) relate to fearful temperament, a risk marker for anxiety. Nevertheless, few studies have examined the development of these networks beyond the first months of life, particularly in fearful infants. In this study, we examined how changes in these networks during the first 2 years of life relate to fearful temperament.

Methods: Using data from the Baby Connectome Project (from 180 infants across 396 sessions), …

The court granted a tenant's motion to reargue a prior decision but, upon reargument, adhered to its original ruling. The tenant had sought to dismiss a "no grounds" holdover petition, arguing that the landlord vitiated the termination notice by accepting CityFHEPS payments after the tenancy was supposedly ended. The court found this situation distinct from precedents, as the rent was paid automatically by a third party (the Department of Social Services) rather than the tenant himself. Because the tenant was unaware of the payments, the landlord's acceptance did not send a "contrary message" that would nullify the termination notice. The …

The transportation sector plays a vital role in facilitating human well-being by moving people and goods. In Iraq, the sector faces significant challenges, including an annual fuel loss of up to 500 billion dinars and substantial fuel wastage. Each vehicle consumes approximately 570 liters of gasoline annually due to traffic congestion, as the number of vehicles at peak times is estimated per kilometer of the three-lane street (1,059 cars km/h). In contrast, their number is estimated at regular times (450 cars km/h), leading to increased greenhouse gas emissions from fuel combustion used to operate vehicle engines. The current study analyzed …
