Non-Native English-Speaking Teachers Of Writing, Native-Speaker Ideologies, And Feedback Uptake In First-Year Composition, Mustapha Bannerman

Research on non-native English-speaking teachers (NNESTs) and writing feedback has rarely examined how students’ perceptions of multilingual instructors shape feedback uptake. This critical literature review synthesizes scholarship from composition studies, second language writing, translingualism, and NNEST research to examine this relationship in first-year composition. The review argues that native-speaker ideologies may shape perceptions of instructor credibility in ways that could influence students’ willingness to trust and apply feedback during revision. It identifies a significant gap in existing scholarship and calls for empirical research and pedagogical practices that promote linguistic justice, multilingualism, and equitable writing instruction in higher education.

This study explored how mentoring was perceived in the educational experiences of African American male foster care alumni who completed college. African American males with foster care histories often face significant adversity, including placement instability, disrupted educational experiences, and limited access to consistent support systems. Although these challenges are well documented, less is known about how supportive mentoring relationships may contribute to academic persistence and success. A generic qualitative framework was used to gather participant perspectives through semi-structured interviews. Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) is a lifelong neurodevelopmental disability resulting from prenatal alcohol exposure that can affect cognitive functioning, adaptive skills, communication, emotional regulation, and daily living abilities. Individuals with FASD and their caregivers often face complex challenges while navigating behavioral, educational, healthcare, human service, and criminal justice systems. Although awareness of FASD continues to increase, gaps remain in caregiver education, professional understanding, and access to coordinated, trauma-informed supports. This capstone examined the relationship between deficits in emotional intelligence and behavioral escalation among justice-involved populations, who frequently demonstrated challenges with emotional regulation, impulse control, aggression, and behavioral escalation. However, many correctional interventions, including traditional anger management programming, emphasized behavioral compliance rather than the underlying emotional processing deficiencies that contributed to these behaviors. This project synthesized existing peer-reviewed literature from psychology, criminology, forensic behavioral health, and correctional rehabilitation research to examine how low levels of emotional awareness, emotional regulation, empathy, and interpersonal functioning are associated with aggression, recidivism, and escalating behaviors. For species extirpated from the wild, ex situ breeding programs are essential for providing the individuals necessary for re-establishing wild populations through reintroductions. However, repeated exposure to humans under managed care may reduce wariness and alter behavioral responses in ways that are maladaptive after release. Although some pre-release behaviors reflect natural responses essential for survival and reproduction, others may result from habituation to humans and increase the risk of conflict, recapture, or mortality following translocation. Unplanned conversion from labor epidural analgesia to general anesthesia (GA) for cesarean delivery is associated with increased maternal and neonatal risk and may occur when inadequate epidural function is not recognized before operative delivery. This Doctor of Nursing Anesthesia Practice quality improvement project evaluated implementation of the Epic Epidural Assessment Event, a structured electronic medical record documentation tool designed to standardize epidural assessment during labor at a high-acuity obstetric referral center in Western Pennsylvania. Postpartum hemorrhage is a leading cause of preventable maternal morbidity and mortality and requires rapid, coordinated response among obstetric, anesthesia, nursing, and blood-bank teams. This quality improvement project implemented and evaluated a California Maternal Quality Care Collaborative (CMQCC)-based Code OB maternal hemorrhage intervention at a western Pennsylvania hospital. The project aimed to improve anesthesia provider knowledge, confidence, and readiness to recognize, stage, and respond to maternal hemorrhage using standardized guidance, quantitative blood loss (QBL) measurement, and point-of-care cognitive support. A Stochastic Nonlinear Dynamical System For Smoothing Noisy Eye Gaze Data, Thoa Thieu, Roderick Melnik

In this study, we address the challenges associated with accurately determining gaze location on a screen, which is often compromised by noise from factors such as eye tracker limitations, calibration drift, ambient lighting changes, and eye blinks. We propose the use of an extended Kalman filter (EKF) to smooth the gaze data collected during eye-tracking experiments and systematically explore the interaction of different system parameters. Our results demonstrate that the EKF significantly reduces noise, leading to a marked improvement in tracking accuracy. Objective: To characterize feasibility, tolerability, and patient-reported outcomes after a 10-session full-body red and near-infrared photobiomodulation (PBM) protocol for musculoskeletal pain in a predominantly Hispanic/ Latino community sample.

Background: PBM is a non-pharmacological intervention with potential analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. Evidence from community-based and Hispanic/Latino populations remains limited, and full-body LED protocols are incompletely standardized.

In this paper, we introduce a new class of dynamical systems, Proximal Dispersive Group Spaces (PDG - spaces), to study the structure of topological group actions. In these spaces, we observe a mixture of two different behaviors: points come close to each other (proximal convergence) under some group elements, while remaining separated (dispersive separation) under others. This framework generalizes the classical theory to allow for selective convergence without global asymptotic collapse. Using single-cell transcriptomics of bronchoalveolar lavage cells from Mtb/SIV co-infected rhesus macaques on cART, we reveal profound immune dysregulation during early SIV co-infection of latent tuberculosis. SIV induces a sharp decline in CD4+ T cells, NK, and NKT cells, with incomplete recovery of Mtb-specific TH1 effector responses despite viral suppression. Instead, a persistent TH17-skewed environment emerges, alongside sustained myeloid inflammation driven by Type I interferon signaling and pro-inflammatory regulators such as KLF6 and NFKB1. Ligand-receptor network analyses demonstrate expanded CD4+ T cell-macrophage crosstalk and loss of immune homeostasis that cART fails to fully restore. These findings expose …

Purpose: To compare basketball-related injury epidemiology between high school- and college-aged athletes and characterize the burden of these injuries on US EDs.

Purpose: SMARCB1-deficient renal medullary carcinoma (RMC) is an ultra-rare, lethal malignancy refractory to therapies approved for other renal cell carcinomas, and its rarity makes randomized trials logistically unfeasible. We investigated whether wild-type epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) is a therapeutically actionable dependency in RMC and translated this insight into a deployable clinical regimen.

Experimental design: EGFR expression was assessed by CLIA-certified immunohistochemistry in RMC tumors and by integrated RNA- and chromatin immunoprecipitation-sequencing of primary tumors and adjacent kidney. Background: Post-traumatic soft tissue injuries cause pain, functional impairment, and long-term disability. Current treatments often lead to excessive fibrosis and scar formation, compromising tissue function and increasing the risk of re-injury. Therefore, therapies that accelerate wound healing while promoting regeneration and minimizing fibrosis are urgently needed.

To address this challenge, we developed an ionically conducting (IC) bandage that combines localized electrical stimulation (ES) with sustained delivery of the small molecule 4-aminopyridine (4AP).
