Power Supply Restoration Strategy Considering Regulation Capability Of Flexible Resources, Dejin Feng, Yi Zhao, Xiaoyi Qian, Wenyao Sun
Journal of Electric Power Science and Technology
The rapid development of new energy technologies will make them the main source of power generation in the future. However, the intermittent and fluctuating characteristics of new energy power generation make it highly susceptible to environmental influences. In view of insufficient power supply in urban distribution networks under extreme weather conditions, a power supply restoration strategy considering the regulation capability of flexible resources is proposed. Firstly, air conditioners and electric vehicles, which are typical adjustable flexible resources in urban distribution networks, are modeled, and their regulation capabilities are evaluated. Next, based on the evaluation results, the optimal power supply restoration …

Strategy For Improving Wind‑Solar Consumption Rate In Mountainous Cities Based On Vmd‑Bi‑Lstm And V2g, Li Cai, Bingjie Shang, Qingshan Xu, Juan Yan, Haihong Bian, Yi Zhang, Xiaojiang Zou
Journal of Electric Power Science and Technology
To address the current energy abandonment phenomenon of new energy sources such as wind power and photovoltaic power, an orderly charging and discharging strategy for electric vehicles (EVs) is proposed to promote wind-solar consumption. This strategy uses the vehicle-to-grid (V2G) interaction technology and aims to maximize the regional wind-solar consumption rate, minimize power load fluctuation, and maximize the power company’s electricity sales benefit in the context of mountainous cities by establishing a multi-objective charging model. The output of wind power and photovoltaic power is predicted using variational mode decomposition combined with a bidirectional long short-term memory (Bi-LSTM) network. Based on …

Research On Real‑Time Power Scheduling Optimization Considering Renewable Energy Characteristics, Guoming Luo, Xiaoyun Huang, Xinming Fan
Journal of Electric Power Science and Technology
In power systems with large amounts of renewable energy and high variability, conventional scheduling methods cannot adequately accommodate the effects of the above variability. A scheduling optimization method is proposed to evaluate the optimal unit participation factor by considering the variability of solar, wind, and load demand. Both sequential and dynamic models are used, and variability and uncertainty costs are considered in the optimization process. Since the participation factor fitting function is optimized only once at the beginning of the scheduling interval, the dimensions of the proposed scheduling optimization model are the same as those of the conventional method. The …

Journal of Electric Power Science and Technology
Establishing an integrated energy system (IES) is an effective means to promote the efficient utilization of energy resources. Reasonable planning and design software for IESs can provide tailored design solutions according to engineering needs. However, the lack of multi-scenario-compatible planning software remains a bottleneck for the widespread industrial application of IESs. To address this issue, a comprehensive and highly reliable IES plan (IES-PLAN) design platform has been developed to scientifically guide users in designing reliable, low-carbon, and efficient IESs. The platform offers a graphical interaction interface, allowing users to flexibly set planning scenarios and goals based on their needs. To …

Research On Coordinated Control Strategy Employing D‑Statcom Based On Voltage Transient Rate Of Change, Wenglong Li, Xiu Yang, Xiaoli Zhao, Danzhen Gu, Xuejun Xiong, Yajun Zhang, Yuyao Feng
Journal of Electric Power Science and Technology
To solve serious problems such as equipment shutdown caused by voltage dips due to short-circuit faults in distribution networks, a coordinated control strategy employing a distribution network static synchronous compensator (D-STATCOM) based on the voltage transient rate of change is proposed. Firstly, the control of voltage by the traditional control strategy is improved. An undervoltage module is activated when a short-circuit fault occurs in the distribution network, increasing the reactive power output of D-STATCOM to suppress the voltage dip during the fault. At the end of the fault, an overvoltage module is activated to decrease the reactive power output of …

Temporal And Generational Changes In Depression Among Young American Adults, Ashley W. Kranjac, Dinko Kranjac, Valentine Chung
Sociology Faculty Articles and Research
The prevalence of depression among young American adults has risen significantly over the past two decades, but the mechanisms that underlie the population-level changes in depressive symptoms severity remain unclear. We used data from the 2005–2023 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) and hierarchical age–period–cohort (HAPC) analysis to examine developmental (i.e., age), life stage (i.e., period), and generational (i.e., cohort) distribution of depressive symptoms among American adults aged 20–30 years old over an 18-year period. Our model results indicate that the probability of either mild, moderate, or severe depression increased among young adult females and males between 2005 and …

All Decisions
The court granted a tenant's motion to vacate a final judgment and dismiss the non-payment petition without prejudice. The landlord, a housing authority, failed to use the mandatory Notice of Petition form prescribed by court rules, which resulted in a defective notice. The court found this was not a minor error but caused prejudice to the pro se tenant, as it omitted crucial information about available legal and financial resources. As a result, the final judgment and warrant of eviction were vacated, and the case was dismissed.

Changing Aspen Stand Structure Following Large Carnivore Restoration In Yellowstone, Luke E. Painter, Robert L. Beschta, William J. Ripple
Aspen Bibliography
Restoration of large carnivores in northern Yellowstone National Park in the late 20th century resulted in a sustained reduction of Rocky Mountain elk (Cervus canadensis) and their herbivory, facilitating new growth of quaking aspen (Populus tremuloides) saplings. In 2020–21, we examined 87 randomly selected, previously sampled aspen stands across northern Yellowstone, combining random plots with stand-wide observations. Forty-three percent of stands contained a new cohort of small trees (5–10 cm dbh), the first documented recruitment of overstory aspen trees in northern Yellowstone since the 1940s. Both aspen saplings ( ≥2 m tall) and small trees were …

Investigating The Impact Of Agent Openness On Planning In Multi-Agent Systems, Bala Subramanyam Duggirala
School of Computing: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
Multi-agent systems (MAS) possess significant potential for modeling real-world scenarios requiring coordinated actions (like wildfire fighting or ridesharing) among autonomous entities or agents (e.g., wildfire fighting agents) in complex, dynamic environments. Effective decision-theoretic planning (where each agent must carefully consider both the immediate and the future situations or states, and coordinate with the other agents (neighbors) to evaluate what needs to be done at present) within MAS, especially multiagent planning, where the planning agent directly models its neighbors in order to estimate their optimal actions, is critical, yet challenged by factors like partial observability, openness, and diverse agent types with …

Objectives
Movement behaviors, such as sedentary behavior (SB), light intensity physical activity (LPA), and moderate to vigorous intensity physical activity (MVPA) are mutually exclusive, in that time spent in one behavior inevitably displaces time spent in another. Yet, few studies have simultaneously considered these health behaviors and their association with health-related quality of life (HRQoL), an important indicator of health and well-being in aging populations. This study aimed to explore the role of waking movement behaviors (i.e., SB, LPA, MVPA) in prospectively predicting HRQoL in older adults. The study further aimed to cross-validate associations between movement behaviors and HRQoL using …

Modern and autonomous hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), as complex cyber-physical systems, represent a key innovation in the future of transportation. However, the increasing interconnectivity and reliance on digital components expose these vehicles to significant cybersecurity risks. To address these challenges, Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) has emerged as a promising security framework. Operating on the principle of ‘never trust, always verify,’ ZTA offers a comprehensive approach to ensuring continuous trust verification in HEV systems. Despite its potential, the application of ZTA within cyber-physical vehicular systems remains underexplored, and its practical benefits and limitations are not yet fully understood by the engineering …
Utilizing The Combinatory Power Of Chemotherapeutic Compounds In Triple Negative Breast Cancer Cells, Matthew I. Hyder
Utilizing The Combinatory Power Of Chemotherapeutic Compounds In Triple Negative Breast Cancer Cells, Matthew I. Hyder
Biology Summer Fellows
Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women worldwide and the second most common cause of cancer deaths in women in the United States. Genetic variants that increase the risk of breast cancer include mutations in the breast cancer susceptibility genes 1 and 2 (BRCA1 and BRCA2). Apoptosis, or programmed cell death, is a natural process that helps the body remove aged cells. However, in cancer, deregulated apoptotic signaling—especially the activation of anti-apoptotic mechanisms—enables cancer cells to evade this process, leading to uncontrolled proliferation, tumor survival, therapeutic resistance, and cancer recurrence. Most anti-cancer drugs function as chemotherapeutic …

Transmission And Distribution Coordination Model Considering Risk Of Flexibility Supply And Demand Imbalance, Zhongkuan Han, Yu Shen, Zhensong Zeng
Journal of Electric Power Science and Technology
A high proportion of distributed energy sources connected to the grid makes the problem of insufficient system flexibility increasingly prominent, while the coupling of transmission and distribution networks further increases. First, the traditional flexibility demand model is improved based on the probability box method, and the probability box boundaries are truncated through a variable confidence interval and the conditional value-at-risk method to improve the conservatism of the probability box boundaries. Subsequently, economic models of the transmission network and the distribution network are established, respectively, and a transmission and distribution coordination model considering the risk of flexibility supply and demand imbalance …

Ground Fault Detection Of Dc System Ring Network Based On Improved Hho‑Wnn, Zhen Yang, Yongxiang Li, Yanru Zhao, Juan Mo, Tao Gao
Journal of Electric Power Science and Technology
A direct current (DC) system is key to maintaining the normal operation of a substation. To address the difficulties of detecting ground faults in DC system ring networks, a ground fault detection method combining Harris Hawk optimization (HHO) and wavelet neural network (WNN) is proposed based on the traditional low-frequency signal injection method. The proposed method first collects the status of the ring network operation by low-frequency signal injection and then applies the Mallat wavelet decomposition algorithm to decompose the initial signal of each branch into four layers. The low-frequency coefficient waveforms are obtained, and the waveform energy is calculated …

Model Analysis Of Typical Areas With Safe Power Supply Via 10 Kv Lines, Wei Zhu, Ruzhou Hong, Aiyuan Li, Yanyao Zhou
Journal of Electric Power Science and Technology
Power supply via 10 kV lines is generally achieved in a radial branch structure, and low voltage problems are prone to occur at the end of the branch lines. The analysis of typical areas with safe power supply via 10 kV lines is the basis for the study of distribution network expansion and planning methods. The voltage drop characteristics of 10 kV lines are analyzed, and a simplified calculation method for the voltage drop along the line is derived. The power supply areas of the 10 kV distribution network are decomposed into four typical supply area models: rectangular, diamond-shaped, front-triangular, …

The Influence Of Myocardin Effector Genes On The Tgf-Beta Smad3 Signaling Pathway In Human Pleural Mesothelial Cells, Hema Chandra Hrushi Dusharla
The Influence Of Myocardin Effector Genes On The Tgf-Beta Smad3 Signaling Pathway In Human Pleural Mesothelial Cells, Hema Chandra Hrushi Dusharla
Biotechnology Theses
Pleural Fibrosis (PF) involves excessive extracellular matrix (ECM) deposition, mainly by myofibroblasts, leading to pleural thickening and impaired lung function. Pleural mesothelial cells (PMCs) contribute via mesothelial and mesenchymal transition (MesoMT), triggered by cytokines like TGF-β. Our lab identified Myocardin (MyoCD), a transcriptional co-activator of cardiac and smooth muscle, is a master regulator of pleural fibrosis through interactions with serum response factor (SRF) and Smad2/3 transcription factors which initiate fibrosis signaling. RNA sequencing and qPCR analysis revealed that silencing MyoCD decreased the expression of CTNNB1, MDFI, and Tspan2. MDFI emerged as a potent candidate, as this gene affecting the expression …
