Craftsmanship occupies a privileged place in Morocco's national economy: with an estimated 800,000 to one million artisans, the sector is the second-largest provider of employment after agriculture and a significant source of foreign currency through exports. Paradoxically, the craftsman holds the most precarious status of all workers—lacking even minimal social protection, occupying a highly ambiguous position under labor legislation, and, in certain branches such as child labor in carpet-making, subjected to exploitation bordering on slavery. This contribution addresses the question of integrating the occupational accidents and diseases scheme into the social security system, examined through the positions of its advocates and opponents. The author clarifies that this does not imply the existence of opposing doctrinal currents within Moroccan social-law scholarship—some calling for integration, others against it—since such currents do not in fact exist. Although the Moroccan Maritime Trade Code devotes numerous provisions to the ship's captain, it offers no definition of the position. Drawing on the various powers set out in these provisions, the captain may be understood as the person who lawfully commands the ship, oversees its technical and administrative management, and exercises the different authorities granted by maritime law and custom. For a long time, employment relations were strictly individual, confined to the link between an employer and each worker separately. This situation did not endure: labor relations evolved toward a collective dimension, bringing together not the employer and a single worker but the employer and the whole body—or at least a group—of employees. Although social (labor) law now constitutes an autonomous branch of private law, it continues to draw on many of the principles and techniques of civil law. This article examines how civil legal rules, when applied to the field of employment relations, often lose part of their original civil identity: they are frequently breached or reshaped in ways that serve the working class as the weaker party, and through successive judicial interpretations such rules gradually become exceptions to civil law and firmly rooted principles of social law. This article examines the judiciary as the ultimate recourse for every vulnerable party whose rights or dignity have been infringed, with particular attention to the wage earner within the employment relationship. In U.S. higher education, the bilingualism of international doctoral students is often reduced to a measure of English deficiency rather than recognized as a linguistic and cultural resource. Drawing on Anzaldúa's borderlands theory, this autoethnographic study examines the lived experiences of a female Chinese international doctoral student negotiating bilingual identity in U.S. academia. Using personal journals, written correspondence, field notes, and memories of significant encounters as data, this inquiry explores three dimensions of experience: the ways bilingual identity is misread or appropriated in academic spaces; the relationships that offered recognition and belonging; and the cultural and pedagogical knowledge that bilingualism …

Elrond Half-elven acts as an important bridge between the First, Second, and Third Ages of Middle-earth, as well as between multiple species (Maia, Elf, and Human). He thus presents writers and directors of film and television adaptations with both challenges and opportunities to investigate intersections between the medieval and the modern, myth and magic, fidelity to the original and creative exploration. Pulmonary hypertension associated with congenital heart disease or PH-CHD is an increasingly prevalent disorder in modern cardiology. It is characterized by progressive pulmonary vascular remodeling, chronic right ventricular (RV) pressure overload, and abnormal cardiopulmonary hemodynamic. Due to advances in congenital cardiology and treatments for pulmonary hypertension, survival rates have increased. As a result, the focus has switched to long-term functional status and quality of life. Depression and anxiety are currently recognized as prevalent and clinically significant manifestations in PH-CHD; nonetheless, they remain underdiagnosed and undertreated within cardiovascular care frameworks.

This design-based research study worked with 25 teachers with specialized early literacy training. Researchers investigated the impact of professional development advancing their multilingual learner (ML), literacy, and leadership capacity, addressing gaps in the research merging the fields of literacy, multilingual instruction, and leadership. Spanning two years of both qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis including teacher, student, and district surveys, teacher logs, research logs, and teacher interviews, the researchers capture the iterative nature of the needs of teacher professional development to serve MLs. Illegal mining in Ghana has attracted considerable public and policy attention due to its far-reaching environmental, social, and health consequences. Our study examines how Ghanaian news media frame illegal mining, the tone of media coverage, and the stakeholders represented in news narratives. Using a quantitative content analysis, 800 news articles were sampled from six widely read media outlets, Daily Graphic, Ghanaian Times, TV3 Ghana, GTV, Joy FM, and Citi Newsroom. A multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) was employed to examine differences in framing, tone, and stakeholder representation across outlets. Abstract

Background: Earning full-time credit loads and persisting are how college students successfully graduate.

Objective: We measured whether credits and persistence at an urban, commuter Hispanic/Minority-Sserving Iinstitution improved after implementing a social work-based advisement strategy.

Methods: Using a quasi-experimental methodology on a college’s enrollment database, we measured the impact of a new advisement model on earned and attempted credit loads to compare traditional student advisement within control groups (n = 171 and n = 899) relative to intervention (n = 130).

Findings: In 2024, the intervention group attempted an average of 14.7 credits and earned an average of 14.3 credits, …

The Cretaceous–Paleogene boundary (∼66 million years ago) represents the most recent mass extinction event when an estimated 75% of all species became extinct, including all non-avian dinosaurs. Here we focus on the stable carbon isotope (δ¹³C) analysis of coal and coaly sediments across the terrestrial K/Pg boundary from 10 sites, between 42 and 64°N, USA and Canada. Our δ¹³C data set shows a statistically significant positive correlation with paleolatitude that we interpret as a consequence of our lower latitude sites being relatively warmer and more humid than our higher latitude sites. Anatomic malformation as seen in subclavian steal syndrome leads to an alteration in the body's autonomic regulatory pattern, influencing varying physical manifestations. The autonomic nervous system provides situational regulatory feedback to the body, maintaining the body’s desired point of homeostasis. We report the case of a 68-year-old male who initially came in with X-rays indicating retrolisthesis and calcifications in his carotids. A left-sided carotid bruit was also noted, as well as right-sided upper extremity weakness. Background: Treatment options are limited, and outcomes remain poor for patients with metastatic uveal melanoma (MUM). We conducted an investigator-initiated, prospective, single-arm, single-institution, phase II study evaluating the combination of an FAK inhibitor (defactinib) with a RAF/MEK inhibitor (avutometinib) for the treatment of MUM. Methods: From February 2021 through January 2023, 12 patients with MUM were treated with the combination of defactinib and avutometinib. Defactinib was given 200 mg twice daily, and avutometinib was given 3.2 mg twice a week. Both drugs were given for 3 weeks on and 1 week off (28-day cycle). Disease control rate was the primary …

Ecophysiology examines the interactions between an organism’s physiology and its environment. It seeks to understand how an organism functions and adapts under changing conditions. This has direct applications to live-trade aquaculture sectors, including the ornamental aquarium trade, where traded animals experience a variety of changing, and often stressful, environmental conditions that can threaten their health and survival. This review proposes a role for ecophysiology in managing organismal health, using Hatch (1962) theoretical framework of disease and dysfunction as a foundation for defining and distinguishing health.
