Small Satellite Conference
Space objects in the size range of 0.1 mm to 3 cm are not currently trackable but have enough kinetic energy for lethal consequences to spacecraft. Small orbital debris poses a risk to most space missions; the detection of this debris requires a combination of a large sensor area and large time coverage. For example, a sensor with a time area product of 3 m2years can make a significant contribution to our understanding of the near-Earth small debris population. Deploying large sensors like physical witness plates is resource intensive, due to their size and weight. The light sheet …

Hitching A Ride On History: Nasa’S Space Launch System Artemis Ii Cubesats, Russell Lane, David Beaman, Courtney Ryals, David Hitt
Small Satellite Conference
In early 2026, NASA will launch the Artemis II mission, the second flight of its Orion spacecraft and Space Launch System (SLS) rocket. Artemis II will be the first crewed flight of the systems and will see four astronauts venture around the Moon as a key step toward establishing a long-term human presence in deep space. The 10-day flight will demonstrate NASA's foundational human deep space exploration capabilities. Launching along with Orion on SLS will be four 12U CubeSats developed through partnerships with space agencies around the world that are signatories of the Artemis Accords. The CubeSats will deploy in …

Deploying And Operating The 25-Satellite Kinéis Constellation, Challenges And Lessons Learned, Franck Darnon, Anissa Bahri, Silvia Salas, Isabelle Hernandez, Damien Servant
Small Satellite Conference
This Kinéis constellation is made of 25 30kg-class satellites, equipped with electric propulsion. The missions are dedicated to IoT (Internet of Things) connectivity and to AIS (Automatic Identification System) monitoring. The satellites were launched by batches of 5, the first took place in June 2024, the last one in March 2025.
The paper discusses how the Ground Control Segment was developed and validated within a complex system and with strong schedule constraints. The validation plan was designed to rapidly de-risk the challenges due to multi- satellite aspects, to focus on a …

The Electrojet Zeeman Imaging Explorer (EZIE) is a low-cost, multi-spacecraft mission that seeks to capture the magnetic signature of the powerful electrojet currents flowing within the Earth's upper atmosphere. Equipped with the innovative Microwave Electrojet Magnetogram instrument, three identical 6U CubeSats fly in a "pearls-on-a-string" configuration in sun-synchronous, low Earth orbit, crossing the auroral oval over 8,000 times during its 18-month lifetime. As a NASA-sponsored, Category 3, Risk Classification D mission, EZIE accommodates a higher-risk tolerance and moderate budget while offering a substantial return in science. In less than 40 months of development, the project managed the convergence of sponsor …

In-Orbit Commissioning Results Of The Esa Φsat-2 Mission, Nicola Melega, Agnė Paškevičiūtė-Kidron, Nicolas Longepe, Mirko Albani, Louis Dadswell, George Hine, Jacob Bullard, Alessandro Marin
Small Satellite Conference
The commissioning of the ESA Φsat-2 mission marks a significant milestone in the advancement of Earth observation technologies, particularly in the realm of artificial intelligence (AI) and edge computing. Launched on August 16, 2024, aboard the SpaceX Transporter 11 rideshare flight, the Φsat-2 mission aims to demonstrate the feasibility of running an entire data processing chain onboard, from Level 0 to Level 2, showcasing the latest advancements in edge computing and AI. The mission began with the successful separation of the Φsat-2 spacecraft from the launcher, followed by the establishment of communication 90 minutes post-launch over the Troll ground station. …
Association Of Coparenting Relationship With Postpartum Depression And Anxiety In Immigrants Postnatal Women, Salima Sulaiman
Association Of Coparenting Relationship With Postpartum Depression And Anxiety In Immigrants Postnatal Women, Salima Sulaiman
Sigma Foundation for Nursing Research Grant Reports
Background: Postpartum depression (PPD) and anxiety are growing public and global health concerns, particularly among immigrant populations. In Canada, first-time parents from minority immigrant backgrounds face unique stressors that may heighten their vulnerability to perinatal mental health challenges. While existing research has primarily focused on mothers, limited attention has been given to immigrant fathers and the experiences of both parents as a unit. This study explores the prevalence of depressive and anxiety symptoms among South Asian and Middle Eastern immigrant couples in Canada during the postpartum period.
Methods: A cross-sectional pilot study was conducted with immigrant couples who had moved …

Advanced Hyperspectral Imaging From Orbit: Achievements And Challenges From The First Year Of Tanager-1, Jeff Guido, Mark Keremedjiev, James Mason, Riley Duren, Judy Lai-Norling, Kirk Seaman, Robert Green
Small Satellite Conference
In August 2024, Planet Labs PBC launched Tanager-1, a small satellite class hyperspectral satellite designed to detect methane point source emissions, developed through the Carbon Mapper partnership. In a short time, Tanager-1 began imaging and demonstrating the exceptional sensitivity of the onboard VSWIR imaging spectrometer designed by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The early performance of Tanager-1 signals a significant advancement in remote sensing capability made possible by an innovative public-private partnership bringing together commercial, non-profit, philanthropic, academic, and government entities.
Leveraging JPL-developed technology and Planet’s proven expertise in spacecraft development and operation, Tanager-1 acquires high-fidelity hyperspectral data across the 400-2500 …
