Cloud‐to‐ground (CG) lightning is a major source of summer wildfire ignition in the western United States (WUS). However, future projections of lightning are uncertain since lightning is not directly simulated by most global climate models. To address this issue, we use convolutional neural network (CNN)‐based parameterizations of daily June‐September CG lightning. CNN parameterizations of daily CG lightning occurrence at each grid cell use fields of three thermodynamic variables—ratio of surface Moist Static Energy (MSE) to 500 hPa saturation MSE, 700–500 hPa lapse rate, and 500 hPa relative humidity. Tabletop Isotropic Source For Neutron Science Training Poster, Reu/Fri Program Physics And Astronomy, Jarom Peterson

To develop affordable tabletop neutron sources for neutron science research and education, GS20 scintillator glass doped with Americium-241 is being evaluated inside the BYU Isotropic Fission Chamber (IFC). Our 1985 sample was assessed for radiation damage and found to be in good condition. Neutrons from Am-241 interactions were optically flagged and observed using the IFC in conjunction with the LGB-PVT Neutron Pseudo Spectrometer Detector. Data was recorded via a CAEN desktop digitizer. The analysis code continues to be developed, and the neutron detector will be calibrated using deuterium-deuterium (DD) interactions in the future.

BACKGROUND: The Stay Safe Study is the first observational prospective cohort study investigating fentanyl test strip (FTS) use by people who use drugs (PWUD) and distribution by community organizations that provide harm reduction services (e.g., naloxone distribution) in three states (Kentucky, New York, and Ohio). The purpose of this paper is to describe the study design, along with implementation successes and challenges. A related goal is to provide recommendations and encourage researchers to undertake multi-state and multilevel studies of FTS use and distribution.

This quality improvement staff education project addressed the inconsistent use of the Clinical Institute Withdrawal Assessment (CIWA) and Clinical Opiate Withdrawal Scale (COWS) assessment tools among nursing staff in an adult psychiatric and addictions unit located in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States. Inconsistent use of the CIWA and COWS tools may lead to unfavorable patient outcomes. The goal of this project was to enhance nursing familiarity, confidence, and sense of importance in using CIWA and COWS tools for assessing and managing withdrawal symptoms in patients with co-occurring depression and substance use disorders. The purpose of this study was to identify player types that exist in the modern National Basketball Association (NBA), test whether player types are paid differently controlling for performance and other factors and construct successful rosters with cheaper payrolls.
We collected performance statistics and salary data for players and teams across five seasons (2018-19 to 2022-23). Cluster analysis is leveraged to group together player-seasons to identify the player types that exist in the NBA. Linear regression models are run to test for differences in pay by cluster membership while controlling for performance, age, and contractual details. Linear programming simulation models …

Systems and methods are provided herein for determining areas of low blood flow, low blood perfusion, suboptimal treatment perfusion, and/or likelihood of tumor recurrence. For example patient-specific methods are provided for identifying areas of low perfusion in an anatomy of interest (such as a vascular region). Angiography data corresponding to the anatomy of interest can be used to generate a modified three-dimensional (3D) model of the anatomy of interest, which represents a fluid flow system exhibiting variant flow patterns. Introduction: Sustainable development, which balances economic, social, and environmental factors to meet the needs of the present and future generations, is a collective responsibility. Rapid population growth and intensification of socio-economic activities are causing significant changes in Land Use Land Cover (LULC), directly impacting ecosystem services, biodiversity, and climate. The Obuasi community is already facing environmental degradation and health problems due to gold mining.

Oocyte vitrification success is highly dependent on cryoprotectant agent (CPA) choice as well as possible additives that could help preserve mitochondrial membrane potential (mMP), reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, and calcium homeostasis within the cell. It is a delicate balance between levels needed for proper oocyte function and activation and levels needed to induce apoptotic pathways. The results of oocyte cryopreservation determine the eventual oocyte viability and subsequent fertilization and embryo development.

This data is about how different types of recreation impact different soil and vegetation properties related to soil carbon in Indian Creek, Bears Ears National Monument. The data was collected from May 2023 to October 2023. It contains plant functional group cover, biocrust cover and type, soil stability, and compaction data for each individual site. There are 5-7 of each site type: camping, foot trails, and motorized offroading trails, and undisturbed sites, with a total of 30 sites. It also contains the code used to analyze the raw data and the figures created.

Indifferentiability Analysis Of Symmetric Key Ciphers, Sayantan Paul

The thesis presented here analyses the security of certain selected symmetric key ciphers - The ciphers analyzed are the 2 and 3-round Confusion-Diffusion Network, the 3-round Cascade Cipher with two independent keys, and the Feistel Construction with 7 and 8 rounds. Substitution Permutation Networks (SPNs) are widely used in the design of modern symmetric cryptographic building blocks. Attacks against the 2-round Confusion-Diffusion Network construction have been exhibited by Dodis et al. (2016a) in their Eurocrypt 2016 paper titled ‘Indifferentiability of Confusion-Diffusion Networks’, and by Da, Xu and Guo (2021b) in their paper ‘Sequential Indifferentiability of Confusion-Diffusion Networks’.
