Regulatory Impacts On Us Hazardous Waste Exports, Xiaofan Ji, Mengyu Wang, Tianyi Zhang

This paper examines the impact of key domestic and international regulations on US hazardous waste exports, focusing on shifts in export destinations and waste types from 2002 to 2023. Since 2005, OECD countries and US Trade Agreement Partners have become primary destinations for US hazardous waste, with significant surges after 2018 and a notable decline in 2022. An analysis of the regulatory landscape reveals that, while international frameworks such as the Basel Convention of 2021 have had a relatively limited impact on reducing US hazardous waste exports, domestic policies—particularly those in California—have more directly influenced export behaviors. Modern society relies on interconnected technologies, and interoperability has become crucial for meeting consumer expectations. Technology standards have emerged to ensure compatibility and interoperability across products. Once an industry selects a standard as the default for consumers and businesses, industry players begin to adapt it, often phasing out alternative—sometimes even superior— technologies. Holders of patents covering technology standards, known as standard- essential patents (SEPs), control the rights to an invention with no commercially viable alternative or that cannot be designed around while still complying with a standard. The Directed Energy Deposition (DED) process has demonstrated high efficiency in manufacturing steel parts with complex geometries and superior capabilities. Understanding the complex interplays of alloy compositions, cooling rates, grain sizes, thermal histories, and mechanical properties remains a significant challenge during DED processing. Interpretable and data-driven modeling has proven effective in tackling this challenge, as machine learning (ML) algorithms continue to advance in capturing complex property structural relationships. The importance of collective motion in atomic nuclei has been well-established for many decades. Even before the advent of the nuclear shell model and its much-needed answers to surprising empirical phenomena, collectivity and surface deformation have played a vital role in broadening our knowledge. Reconciling the collective and single-particle camps into a unified description required tremendous strides in the application of group theory and advances in high-performance supercomputing, and thanks to these efforts the symmetry-adapted no-core shell model, or SA-NCSM, has developed into a reliable model for the study of deformed light and medium-mass nuclei. Irish Journal of Academic Practice

This study examined the intersections of relationships that formed during a short-term, faculty-led study abroad programme in Ireland, and the elements of study abroad culture that allowed and fostered those relationships. We selected evidence-based ethnographic research as our approach to examine the sense of place and community in which relationships formed. We used Tuckman’s theory of group development (Tuckman & Jensen, 1977) as a theoretical framework through which to develop the ethnographic portrait of the students and explore the processes of how relationships developed over a relatively short period of time.

The standard model of cosmology has provided a good phenomenological description of a wide range of observations both at astrophysical and cosmological scales for several decades. This concordance model is constructed by a universal cosmological constant and supported by a matter sector described by the standard model of particle physics and a cold dark matter contribution, as well as very early-time inflationary physics, and underpinned by gravitation through general relativity. Evening binge alcohol consumption contributes to sleep disruption and autonomic dysregulation that persists into the following morning. However, its impact on morning-after arterial stiffness and aortic wave reflection remains unknown. Using a randomized, crossover, fluid-controlled design, we hypothesized that heart rate (HR), carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (cfPWV), aortic augmentation index (AIx), and aortic pulsatile load (APL) would be increased acutely after binge drinking at night (study 1) and the morning-after binge drinking (study 2). Participants (n=33, 18 females, 15 males, age 25±1 years, BMI: 27±1 kg/m) completed binge alcohol (4-5 drink equivalent) and fluid control protocols. Study 1 examined cardiovascular …

Archaeological wood requires effective conservation to prevent further degradation, and traditional modifications such as polyethylene glycol (PEG) have limitations, including hygroscopicity and chemical degradation over time. To explore alternative modification, this study was conducted to investigate the suitability of humins, crosslinked with different concentrations of succinic acid (SA), to protect archaeological elm wood from the Agapia Monastery against water and to determine the modification mechanism. Key parameters such as dimensional stability, moisture sorption isotherms, and determination of accessible hydroxy groups as a function of humination modification were analyzed using dynamic vapor sorption (DVS). As the spell is concluded, the liquid instantly turns from clear to purplish black when the wizard’s hand rubs the bottom of the flask. It is actually the well-known iodine clock reaction dressed up as the opening act of a chemistry course or a wizard show. The Cauldron of Fire is merely a glorified flame test with some added sparks at the end. When performing it, I can always rely upon a gasp from the audience as the flames turns decidedly green. In a chemical classroom, it offers an unparalleled chance to illustrate and talk about the quantized nature of electron energy levels. Even seasoned college chemistry faculty will appreciate an explanation of where the notational scheme for the orbitals came from – s, p, d, f. The energy level diagrams make relaxation of an atom back to its ground state visually easy to grasp.
